Bruins Blowup: When 5 Goals Still Isn’t Enough | Snap Shots Episode 54
Liner notes
🎙️ The Bruins just played one of the most chaotic games in recent memory — a 7–5 disaster against the Anaheim Ducks that exposed every crack in Boston’s so-called “defensive structure.” Offense isn’t the issue; it’s the lack of accountability, direction, and basic defensive awareness. From blunders in their own zone to leadership going MIA, this was an embarrassment top to bottom. As fans stare into the abyss, the question becomes: can Marco Sturm stop the bleeding, or will management finally shake up this coaching staff before it’s too late?Up next: a rematch with the undefeated Colorado Avalanche — and Jeremy Swayman will need divine intervention to survive it.

Speaker 1: Last night's game against the Anaheim Ducks had to be
Speaker 1: the most insane, unhinged game the Bruins have played in
Speaker 1: a very long time. I don't think I have the
Speaker 1: words in me to adequately describe what I watched. One
Speaker 1: thing that has become crystal clear. Offense is not the
Speaker 1: problem for a team with an incredible piquet. They might
Speaker 1: as well not have any defenseman on the ice besides
Speaker 1: Nikita Zadorov. Ken Sturm, stop the hemorrhaging, or will management
Speaker 1: take things into their own hands and finally get rid
Speaker 1: of some of these assistant coaches. This is a Bruins
Speaker 1: tape to tape snapshot.
Speaker 2: I'm at a loss, folks, as to how to even
Speaker 2: begin this snapshot with respect to the Boston Bruins game
Speaker 2: against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night. The Bruins lost
Speaker 2: seven to five against a team that they should be
Speaker 2: able to be Stop me, if you've heard that already
Speaker 2: in this early part of the season. Not only did
Speaker 2: they lose seven to five, one would think that when
Speaker 2: you score five goals, it would be enough to win
Speaker 2: a game in the National Hockey League. Oh no, but no.
Speaker 2: Not with this year's version of the Boston Bruins. Apparently
Speaker 2: Thursday Night's game was an embarrassment. And I'm not the
Speaker 2: only one saying that. Morgan Geeky said it. Jonis Corposalo
Speaker 2: said it, and I'm sure that other players are thinking
Speaker 2: it if they haven't said it. Cam Neely needs to
Speaker 2: take this so called vaunted defensive structure where he thought
Speaker 2: that this team would be so difficult to play against,
Speaker 2: and light it on freaking fire, because at this point,
Speaker 2: what I see is I see defense, kinsman and forwards
Speaker 2: who look lost in our own end, and when I
Speaker 2: tell you lost, they don't seem to have a clue
Speaker 2: who is supposed to be doing what, which might leave
Speaker 2: our goaltenders wondering what the hell is going on here?
Speaker 2: Is someone gonna play the man? Is someone going to
Speaker 2: take care of the puck and make a play on
Speaker 2: the puck. It seems to me that even coach Sturm
Speaker 2: is at a loss at this point. So I'm not
Speaker 2: sure where this team goes from here. After all of
Speaker 2: the effort that was made in that third period for
Speaker 2: David Pasternak and Morgan Geeky to score goals twenty five
Speaker 2: seconds apart, and then let the Anaheim Ducks back in again.
Speaker 2: I'm sorry. That is inexcusable, in my view, inexcusable. And
Speaker 2: the so called leaders on this team, and I'm talking
Speaker 2: about Charlie McAvoy and David Pasternach and whoever else in
Speaker 2: that locker room thinks that they're a leader, they had
Speaker 2: better start playing like leaders because if not, there are
Speaker 2: going to be some serious changes on this team. I
Speaker 2: don't know where those changes are coming from, because based
Speaker 2: on what Marco Sturm said, folks, we might be stuck
Speaker 2: with this roster as it's currently constructed for the foreseeable future,
Speaker 2: and the foreseeable future really doesn't look pretty at this
Speaker 2: point in time. When is the last time that any
Speaker 2: of us have watched a game where Charlie McAvoy has
Speaker 2: thrown a hit that has changed the momentum of the
Speaker 2: game for the Boston Bruins. Because the last time I
Speaker 2: saw Charlie McAvoy play with any type of aggressiveness was
Speaker 2: during the tournament last season when he represented Team USA,
Speaker 2: and before he got injured, we all said to ourselves, boy,
Speaker 2: oh boy, if that's the Charlie McAvoy that we can
Speaker 2: get on a regular recurring basis, this team will be
Speaker 2: in pretty good shape. But we haven't seen that out
Speaker 2: of Charlie McAvoy. Now, these issues are not exclusively on him,
Speaker 2: because there's lots of flame pie to go around. I
Speaker 2: see forwards who are unwilling to backcheck and to make
Speaker 2: a play in their own end. Dare I say that
Speaker 2: Nikita Zadorov for all the shit that that player took
Speaker 2: because of his contract, he has been this season thus
Speaker 2: far the Bruins' best defenseman, and in my mind, he's
Speaker 2: a better leader at this point than Charlie McAvoy is.
Speaker 1: It feels like we are in a deep, dark hole
Speaker 1: from which we will never escape, and as long as
Speaker 1: the wrongs that were committed by management ownership are not righted,
Speaker 1: we are doomed to repeat these losses over and over again.
Speaker 1: On Saturday, the Bruins play the Colorado Avalanche for the
Speaker 1: final time this season. Of all the losses that Boston
Speaker 1: has faced this year, it's the only one that was
Speaker 1: by multiple goals. Because Corpusolo played on Thursday night, we
Speaker 1: most certainly will see Jeremy Swayman in the net with
Speaker 1: the hopes of securing a much needed win. Not much
Speaker 1: has changed for the Avs since last Saturday. They continue
Speaker 1: to be without a regulation loss, maintaining a five to
Speaker 1: zero and three start for the season. They even went
Speaker 1: so far as to end Carolina's fantastic start and handed
Speaker 1: that team their first loss of the season. The Avs
Speaker 1: are among the top three teams leading the league in
Speaker 1: goal differential and I can't imagine that will change anytime soon.
Speaker 1: They're also maintaining a fifty five plus percent shot attempt
Speaker 1: slash COURSI four percentage compared to Boston's forty eight percent. Yes,
Speaker 1: Boston has been getting more and more shots on goal.
Speaker 1: Last night, they had forty two shots on goal to
Speaker 1: Anaheim's thirty, but they have a lot of ground to
Speaker 1: cover on that front, and with the current state of
Speaker 1: Boston's defense, Jeremy better be praying to the hockey gods
Speaker 1: for some good luck, because he might as well be
Speaker 1: out there on his own. Boston was able to be
Speaker 1: a little more disciplined when it came to going on
Speaker 1: the PK last night, only taking three minor penalties and
Speaker 1: one matching five for fighting, but they are still going
Speaker 1: to need to be on top of their game. Can
Speaker 1: they actually pull it off? Make sure you rate and
