1:52 Speaker 1: deadline acquisitions. This week we are talking about Henry Yoki.

1:58 Speaker 1: How are you who was essentially brought to Boston. Uh,

2:04 Speaker 1: not really with a trade. I don't think that Buffalo

2:07 Speaker 1: really got anything. He just wanted out, and quite frankly,

2:11 Speaker 1: we don't blame him. So this twenty five year old

2:15 Speaker 1: right handed d was drafted actually by Chicago back in

2:19 Speaker 1: twenty seventeen in the first round, twenty ninth overall, which

2:24 Speaker 1: is a little surprising. Last season he played sixty games

2:33 Speaker 1: and he had three goals, seven assists, ten points and

2:37 Speaker 1: shockingly a plus thirteen. He also on the Buffalo Sabers.

2:44 Speaker 4: I know, and again you know what farvie for us

2:47 Speaker 4: to be throwing shots at any other organization right now?

2:52 Speaker 4: After the season, Ruins had.

2:55 Speaker 1: God and he had a coursey for percentage of fifty

3:03 Speaker 1: one point four. So he was shooting a little bit

3:06 Speaker 1: more often than not, which is again something that we

3:11 Speaker 1: could not say for a lot of players on our team.

3:15 Speaker 1: But interestingly enough, so again in the last few episodes,

3:21 Speaker 1: we've talked about one of my favorite statistics, the individual

3:24 Speaker 1: points percentage. But when it comes to defenceman, I like

3:29 Speaker 1: to then shift my focus to defensive point shares the DPS,

3:35 Speaker 1: and this is a statistic that effectively measures a player's

3:43 Speaker 1: defensive play. It estimates the number of team points contributed

3:47 Speaker 1: by that player. In this particular season, he actually had

3:52 Speaker 1: a fairly solid defensive contribution in Buffalo. So out of

3:57 Speaker 1: all of his games, he had a defensive points share

4:04 Speaker 1: of one point five in Boston and one point three

4:10 Speaker 1: in or no, I'm sorry, one point five in Buffalo

4:13 Speaker 1: and one point three in Boston. So what the heck

4:17 Speaker 1: does this mean and why should you care? Comparing him

4:23 Speaker 1: to let's say, Charlie McAvoy, he played only fifty games

4:27 Speaker 1: this past season because of his injury, and he had

4:29 Speaker 1: a two point five DPS, which means he had a

4:32 Speaker 1: really high impact in fewer games. Zadorov played eighty one

4:36 Speaker 1: games and he had a five point five whoa, which

4:40 Speaker 1: was pretty crazy, you know. For I mean, I look

4:43 Speaker 1: forward to later this summer when we do another review

4:48 Speaker 1: of Nikita Zadorov, because I think he was a little

4:51 Speaker 1: bit of a dark horse, a little bit of a

4:53 Speaker 1: sleeper cell, you know.

4:55 Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, yeah, he gave himself a bit of

4:59 Speaker 4: a bad rapped our face value.

5:01 Speaker 1: Yeah, so he's gonna be He's gonna be when we're

5:05 Speaker 1: gonna talk about more. But a lot of the other players,

5:08 Speaker 1: a lot of the other defensemen on the team. You know,

5:11 Speaker 1: you're looking at again Charlie mcavoyd two point five, Brandon

5:15 Speaker 1: Carlow two point seven, Andrew Peak two point three, Mason

5:18 Speaker 1: Laura one point one. But you know, he's he's the baby.

5:23 Speaker 1: And essentially, as I mentioned, it's an indicator of, you know,

5:30 Speaker 1: how they are contributing defensively, and so, Yoki, how are

5:35 Speaker 1: you being a player that again came into a difficult

5:40 Speaker 1: situation in Boston, didn't really know what the heck was

5:43 Speaker 1: going on his motivations for going to Boston, you know,

5:46 Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not putting words in his mouth, but

5:50 Speaker 1: the fact that he wanted to get the hell out

5:51 Speaker 1: of a dodge huffalo. I mean, is Boston the place

5:56 Speaker 1: that he really wanted to or should have landed to

5:59 Speaker 1: be determin The biggest issue is that he is also

6:05 Speaker 1: being twenty five years old and RFA with arbitration rights,

6:10 Speaker 1: so again Boston is not obligated to give him a

6:17 Speaker 1: qualifying offer, and without knowing the bigger picture and the plans,

6:26 Speaker 1: it's harder to tell what Boston wants to do with

6:32 Speaker 1: this particular player qualifying offers much with them if.

6:39 Speaker 4: He's expected more than three million dollars, I'll tell you that.

6:42 Speaker 1: Yeah. So here's the other thing, is the qualifying offers

6:46 Speaker 1: and arbitration and all that kind of stuff happens. Those

6:51 Speaker 1: are all do a little bit later in the month

6:54 Speaker 1: of July. So who knows if Don and company are

6:59 Speaker 1: going to wait and see where everything else lands to

7:02 Speaker 1: kind of deal with him and figure that out. But

7:04 Speaker 1: you bring up an excellent point, which is he is

7:10 Speaker 1: coming to the end of his third professional contract. He's

7:14 Speaker 1: had four years worth of contracts, two contracts total in Buffalo.

7:22 Speaker 1: His first contract was a three year with a value

7:26 Speaker 1: of seven point five million dollars, so that's a two

7:28 Speaker 1: point five million cap hit AAV and then he had

7:33 Speaker 1: a one year deal that was signed for three point

7:37 Speaker 1: one million dollars. Now, again, sample size being what it

7:42 Speaker 1: was tiny, lots of external factors going on. But Maria,

7:51 Speaker 1: what's your opinion on Henry Yoki? Are you.

7:56 Speaker 4: So? My opinion about defense in general is you can

8:00 Speaker 4: never have enough defensive depth. Yes, However, with some of

8:11 Speaker 4: the other needs that you have, I'm not sure that

8:18 Speaker 4: you are in a position to Again, I'm assuming that

8:24 Speaker 4: this player is going to anticipate or expect more money,

8:31 Speaker 4: right and I know that the cap is going up,

8:36 Speaker 4: but you need to utilize that money wisely to address

8:44 Speaker 4: needs that.

8:44 Speaker 2: You have so that your rebuild.

8:48 Speaker 4: Moves on a faster track than likely what you may

8:54 Speaker 4: want it to be. And I don't see how this

8:58 Speaker 4: player fits in to those plans.

9:03 Speaker 1: Right right, if it there is even any kind of

9:07 Speaker 1: particular motivation to even stay in Boston. Now, granted, he

9:11 Speaker 1: can't just up and leave Boston. The only way that

9:17 Speaker 1: he's leaving is if Boston chooses not to give him

9:21 Speaker 1: an offer. But to your point, Boston needs always has needed,

9:29 Speaker 1: any team always has needed, you know, those extra defencemen

9:32 Speaker 1: right so another.

9:34 Speaker 4: And I don't want to say those are because because

9:36 Speaker 4: they're not a dime a dozen, No, no, no, but

9:40 Speaker 4: you those in other avenues that might not be as expensive. Now,

9:48 Speaker 4: if you're telling me that you think this guy might

9:51 Speaker 4: be able to like have a higher threshold than Mason

9:54 Speaker 4: Lauri or Push Laurai, how much is that worth to you?

10:01 Speaker 1: Right? Well, and Boston already has a defenseman who is

10:12 Speaker 1: I mean well again, small sample size but at first glance,

10:17 Speaker 1: is he truly this that different from Yoki? How are you?

10:19 Speaker 1: And I'm talking about Parker Waltherspoon. You know he had

10:25 Speaker 1: a DPS this season of one point four. He had

10:29 Speaker 1: a two last year, So when he's out there, he's

10:34 Speaker 1: doing his job right. Wiltherspoon played fifty five games this

10:38 Speaker 1: past season, he played forty one this season before, and

10:41 Speaker 1: he's gonna be a lot more affordable than Yoki.

10:49 Speaker 2: How are you?

10:50 Speaker 1: So?

10:50 Speaker 2: You know, what is your investment in this team?

10:52 Speaker 4: It's it, you know, it'd be one thing if you had,

10:56 Speaker 4: you know, acquired this player in a tree where you

11:00 Speaker 4: gave an asset to get this player.

11:02 Speaker 2: But doesn't appear to be the case.

15:09 Speaker 4: Defense on this team is the least of your worries

15:12 Speaker 4: because if you can't no, I mean, sad statement to make,

15:16 Speaker 4: but it's the least of your worries because you know,

15:19 Speaker 4: you get back a healthy Hampisling home. Yeah, a healthy

15:23 Speaker 4: Charlie McAvoy, I mean, Mason Laurai, he's got to take

15:28 Speaker 4: a turn for the better. He finished, you know, finished

15:32 Speaker 4: the season pretty miserably. But I still think that there's

15:37 Speaker 4: upside to this kid. Again with the right the right

15:41 Speaker 4: structure and the right coaching, Zadorov, he finished the season

15:47 Speaker 4: a lot stronger, I think than any of us expected him, yeah,

15:52 Speaker 4: to finish the season. So I think you're in good

15:58 Speaker 4: shape right defensively, right, So I mean, Swayman's going to

16:10 Speaker 1: Yes, So you know, and when I when I bring

16:16 Speaker 1: up Parker Waterspoon, I'm not necessarily straight up saying that

16:21 Speaker 1: the two of them are exactly the same. You know,

16:24 Speaker 1: copy paste insert copy players right, So again keeping in mind,

16:32 Speaker 1: uh Waterspoon, he had a goal and six assists, but

16:38 Speaker 1: he was a minus ten. But again, we know again,

16:44 Speaker 1: I know every.

16:45 Speaker 4: Everyone, everybody was exposed. We yes said it in a

16:51 Speaker 4: prior episode. Everyone on the team was pretty well exposed

16:57 Speaker 4: unless your name was David Pasternak or Morgan geeky.

17:29 Speaker 1: agreeing to take Yoki Haru was them taking a flyer

17:34 Speaker 1: on him, and they're gonna think about whether or not

17:41 Speaker 1: he's worth continuing a deal. I mean that at the

17:46 Speaker 1: end of the day, it's it's gonna be a money thing.

17:49 Speaker 1: I think it's definitely this is this.

17:52 Speaker 4: Is one that I think, you know, we can both

17:54 Speaker 4: say this is definitely going to be a money issue decision.

17:59 Speaker 1: Yeah. He is the only one that if you know,

18:07 Speaker 1: the exception of all of the guys that we've talked

18:09 Speaker 1: about in this particular series, I'm not particularly attached to

18:18 Speaker 1: he was part of the team before. Without that history. Yeah,

18:23 Speaker 1: probably all of them i'd be like, all right, well

18:26 Speaker 1: it is what it is because they're new what have you.

18:28 Speaker 1: But he's one that I think Boston could walk away from.

18:40 Speaker 1: He's the only one I agree with you, yeah, that

18:44 Speaker 1: this is this is not gonna go great no for him.

18:49 Speaker 2: And again, you know, none of the players that we

18:54 Speaker 4: I'm doing these segments on are going to bring you

19:23 Speaker 4: on from this player if said player is looking to

19:28 Speaker 4: get a payday or a higher pay day, which I

19:33 Speaker 4: think it would be.

19:33 Speaker 2: An overpay in my view.

19:39 Speaker 1: Yeah, again, it's it's it's so difficult to evaluate a

19:46 Speaker 1: lot of these guys that came in for the last

19:48 Speaker 1: twenty games. I mean, you would think with twenty games

19:52 Speaker 1: that should be enough of a sample size. I mean,

19:55 Speaker 1: you know it's a it's a reasonable fraction of the season.

20:04 Speaker 4: Think when you were growing, things went off the rails

20:10 Speaker 4: so quickly. And you know, I don't like to use

20:13 Speaker 4: the word tank in any way, shape or form about

20:18 Speaker 4: any pro athletes because I just don't think it's in

20:20 Speaker 4: their their DNA.

20:23 Speaker 2: But was there a bit.

20:25 Speaker 4: Of some quick factor in there? Yeah, likely there was.

20:29 Speaker 4: I would I would be frustrated. So I mean emotionally,

20:34 Speaker 4: So I think it's really hard for anybody in the organization,

20:39 Speaker 4: you know, other than those players that you've identify as

20:45 Speaker 4: your core players, which right now are David Pasternak mm h,

20:51 Speaker 4: Charlie McAvoy, Jeremy Swayman. Although we did hear an interesting

20:56 Speaker 4: tidbit and Jeremy Swayman that the Edmonton Oilers had actually

21:07 Speaker 4: made an inquiry about Jeremy Swayman even after he signed

21:13 Speaker 4: his new contract, and I wonder how much of that

21:16 Speaker 4: had to do with the fact that the Oilers might

21:19 Speaker 4: have been a little bit worried about how Skinner would

21:23 Speaker 4: hold up during their playoff run.

21:26 Speaker 2: Yeah, but.

21:29 Speaker 1: Which actually without naming the team, was brought up by

21:34 Speaker 1: Elliott Friedman a couple of weeks ago in a pot

21:38 Speaker 1: Yes he did it, So I do believe that that

21:44 Speaker 1: is a factual statement.

21:46 Speaker 4: M m. But you know, again, this might be one

21:51 Speaker 4: of the he he he may end up being a

21:55 Speaker 4: bit of a casualty whether or not he has his

21:57 Speaker 4: heart set on staying in Boston. I don't know that,

22:02 Speaker 4: you know, when you have to make roster decisions and

22:05 Speaker 4: financial decisions, I'm not sure that this would be a

22:09 Speaker 4: good decision. Yeah, the Bruins to make to provide him

22:14 Speaker 4: with an offer.

22:16 Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, so he's the one also we kind of

22:22 Speaker 1: have the least opinion on, as ridiculous as it sounds,

22:27 Speaker 1: because we, first of all, always have an opinion on

22:29 Speaker 1: every single player on this team, and then here you

22:32 Speaker 1: are listening to our opinion is explicitly in this series.

22:37 Speaker 1: And I think the fact that he didn't particularly make

22:43 Speaker 1: a significant impact, I mean again, don't blame him hard

22:48 Speaker 1: to cut through all that noise.

22:49 Speaker 4: No, no, no, And it's not good because none of the

22:51 Speaker 4: other players that we spoke about a significant impact.

22:56 Speaker 2: I think we're looking at it pragmatically, right, right, and

23:01 Speaker 2: right value.

23:02 Speaker 4: If we have needs offensively, Claire needs offensively, you have

23:08 Speaker 4: less needs defensively, where it would be not an efficient

23:15 Speaker 4: use of resources. Yeah, to keep this player on who

23:20 Speaker 4: happens to be a defenseman, right, you know, I think

23:24 Speaker 4: if he.

23:24 Speaker 1: Was, I don't know even what he was in his

23:31 Speaker 1: prior contract to something. All right, maybe you know we

23:36 Speaker 1: can entertain, we can entertain that. I don't know. I

23:41 Speaker 1: just don't have a good feeling about this one. Yeah, no, no, no,

23:45 Speaker 1: I'm surris, Who is right? Right?

23:48 Speaker 4: I mean the Bruins could do something, you know, to

23:52 Speaker 4: make us look like we have no idea what we're

23:54 Speaker 4: talking about, which.

23:56 Speaker 1: Or five five deal? Oh my god, then I'm gonna

24:22 Speaker 4: We have come to the conclusion that he may likely

24:27 Speaker 4: made a pit stop and it may be time for

24:32 Speaker 4: him to take the next travel itinerary to his next destination,

24:39 Speaker 4: but I'm not sure it's going to be in Boston.
