3:05 Speaker 1: night because we have spent a good amount of time

3:08 Speaker 1: talking about the number of penalties that the Boston Bruins take,

3:14 Speaker 1: keep taking, and the types of penalties that they keep taking,

3:18 Speaker 1: and Tie did a deep dive and an inventory of penalties. Specifically,

3:23 Speaker 1: I believe during the course of this losing streak that

3:27 Speaker 1: the Bruins are on penalty breakdown over this six game

3:31 Speaker 1: winless slide, tripping seven times, hooking five times, I sticking

3:38 Speaker 1: five times, including double minors twice, slashing three times, frost

3:45 Speaker 1: checking twice, interference, delay of game, holding, rocking.

3:49 Speaker 2: Yep Well and Maria, you remember in our conversation about

3:55 Speaker 2: a month ago when I was talking about our Thanksgiving

3:58 Speaker 2: predictor just how high the PK load is for this

4:07 Speaker 2: team and how much of an impact even at Thanksgiving,

4:11 Speaker 2: that statistic that measure has on this team's ability to

4:17 Speaker 2: be successful, that they need in order to turn things

4:22 Speaker 2: around at Thanksgiving, they needed to start taking I can't

4:29 Speaker 2: remember now what I said, but no more than three

4:32 Speaker 2: penalties per game average, no more than one per period,

4:38 Speaker 2: preferably limited bringing it down only like I think I said,

4:42 Speaker 2: like twenty percent, right, because at the time they were

4:45 Speaker 2: averaging five or six on average. They've been successful when

4:49 Speaker 2: they can manage that PK load, and it sinks them

4:53 Speaker 2: when they can't, mostly because we have seen a surprising

5:00 Speaker 2: drop off in that that penalty kill that that this

5:04 Speaker 2: team has always been known for. That's that's a not

5:09 Speaker 2: an individual seasonal team identity piece. That is a that

5:13 Speaker 2: is a franchise identity piece that is important to the franchise.

5:18 Speaker 2: And I will say credit to the team last night,

5:23 Speaker 2: that was one of their best penalty killing nights that

5:27 Speaker 2: they've had in a long time. Uh, because they are

5:31 Speaker 2: quickly approaching the bottom of the league in penalty killing percentage.

5:36 Speaker 2: But it's still a significant problem. It's this huge problem

5:40 Speaker 2: that coupled with and I'm sure you're going to take

5:43 Speaker 2: us down this road a little bit later, but that

5:45 Speaker 2: coupled with those losing the winnable games, the moral victories,

5:49 Speaker 2: because I'm sick and tired of that.

5:53 Speaker 1: But continue, well, well let me give you, let me

5:56 Speaker 1: give you some stats, the kind of I don't want

5:59 Speaker 1: to say quantified, but correlate to this this the struggles

6:02 Speaker 1: that they're having in this six game losing streak. So

6:06 Speaker 1: we have not one player, regular player that have has

6:11 Speaker 1: pretty much played the majority of these games during the

6:15 Speaker 1: six game slide that are plus players right now. Okay,

6:21 Speaker 1: so you have leading leading the pack is David Pasternak,

6:27 Speaker 1: who is a minus seven, really wow, minus seven, and

6:31 Speaker 1: again I know this, he's not scoring no. And again

6:36 Speaker 1: Charlie McAvoy is a minus six. We have one, two, three, four,

6:40 Speaker 1: five four guys. Five guys is minus fives, including Elias Slindholme,

6:46 Speaker 1: Pavel Zaka, Casey Millstat Andrew Peak, Morgan Geek's minus four,

6:51 Speaker 1: Hampus slind Home minus four. And it's not one The only.

6:56 Speaker 2: Guys who are, you know, seemingly not in the house

7:00 Speaker 2: here are guys who aren't really cutting a hold on

7:03 Speaker 2: a time because they're at zero.

7:12 Speaker 1: it stands to reason when you see a slide such

7:16 Speaker 1: as this and you're spending an inordinate amount of time

7:20 Speaker 1: on the penalty kill. What is very frightening to me

7:24 Speaker 1: is those guys that are minus players that aren't typically

7:28 Speaker 1: part of penalty kill units. So I don't want to

7:32 Speaker 1: say that this is a recipe for disaster, but we

7:36 Speaker 1: knew that this team would need to heavily rely on

7:40 Speaker 1: certain players to carry the load offensively, and when said

7:45 Speaker 1: players are not carrying the load and then they're costing

7:49 Speaker 1: you while they're out there on the ice, it's mind boggling.

7:54 Speaker 1: And it's not a recipe or success. And now I'm

7:58 Speaker 1: saying to myself, is this the team that we actually

8:02 Speaker 1: thought we were going to get at the start of

8:05 Speaker 1: the season, which is a middle of the pack Dare

8:08 Speaker 1: I say mediocre team as opposed to the team that

8:13 Speaker 1: might have been overachieve it at some point in time. Yeah.

8:18 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's hard to stay because this season has been

8:22 Speaker 2: such a roller coaster and it's it's easy to sit

8:27 Speaker 2: here and say, if you're looking at this team and

8:32 Speaker 2: you've got let's say a control board, a switchboard, right,

8:35 Speaker 2: and oh, okay, we need to lower the lower the

8:40 Speaker 2: volume of the penalties, and we need to increase this,

8:44 Speaker 2: that and the other, and do you know all of

8:47 Speaker 2: these different things that have to be in alignment that

8:50 Speaker 2: I believe is what Marco Sturm is actually trying to

8:53 Speaker 2: accomplish with this team. The execution when it fails, it

8:58 Speaker 2: goes sideways. And you know, we've said on the pod,

9:02 Speaker 2: when the last time we had a six game losing

9:05 Speaker 2: streak that I felt we just simply did not have that.

9:12 Speaker 1: Talent, kind of to your point that this.

9:14 Speaker 2: Is maybe exactly who we are, what we have, and

9:18 Speaker 2: them's the breaks, and we've just gotten lucky. But then

9:20 Speaker 2: they turn it around and they played how what was

9:24 Speaker 2: the seven game win streak and it was the exact

9:29 Speaker 2: opposite team, and I during that time I amended my interpretation,

9:37 Speaker 2: my assessment of the team to say, Okay, it's not

9:40 Speaker 2: that we don't have a talented enough team. This is

9:46 Speaker 2: the fragile nature of this team. This team I'm gonna

9:51 Speaker 2: continue to use again the Jenga tower as a descriptor

9:56 Speaker 2: for what this team is because they are so fragile.

10:00 Speaker 2: If both a random player who seems on the surface

10:04 Speaker 2: to be not a main character guy goes out, the

10:10 Speaker 2: team really struggles. But also if certain things aren't being

10:16 Speaker 2: done by the players out on the ice, the Djenga

10:19 Speaker 2: tower starts to fall and crumble. So the reason why

10:22 Speaker 2: I don't think that they were just overperforming is the

10:25 Speaker 2: fact that they did it for seven games. That's why

10:30 Speaker 2: I think they are. They are a good team deep,

10:34 Speaker 2: they got good bones. This team has good bones. It's

10:38 Speaker 2: all the other crap that this is what the coaching.

10:42 Speaker 1: Staff is like. I don't envy them.

10:45 Speaker 2: They are trying to figure out how to stabilize the

10:50 Speaker 2: team and to make it more robust with what they have. Okay,

10:55 Speaker 2: I don't know if a new body, a different body

10:58 Speaker 2: is the answer, because because again it's not just when

11:03 Speaker 2: people are out of the lineup or individuals fail. There

11:06 Speaker 2: are team wide things that if they're not doing or

11:10 Speaker 2: they're doing too much of, impacts the outcome of the game.

11:14 Speaker 2: I will say, compared again to the other losing streak

11:18 Speaker 2: that we've experienced this season, this one is slightly different

11:23 Speaker 2: in that the team for the most part has been

11:27 Speaker 2: better than the team that we saw in that first

11:31 Speaker 2: losing stretch.

11:32 Speaker 1: Well, and I want to get into some things that

11:35 Speaker 1: Marco Sturm and David Pastronach said when they hit the

11:39 Speaker 1: holiday break, because it annoyed me to no end. Oh,

11:45 Speaker 1: I know I heard you on Morning Brew. It annoyed

11:47 Speaker 1: me to no end. And I'm going to re annoy

11:50 Speaker 1: myself and others with my take on that. But and

11:54 Speaker 1: we'll break down the debacle that was the.

11:59 Speaker 2: Homes before the break because those were crucial games and

12:05 Speaker 2: just not acceptable in my view the performances yet we

12:09 Speaker 2: saw at home and I want to, you know, maybe

12:12 Speaker 2: kick myself in the seat of the pants because I

12:14 Speaker 2: have been on more than one occasion giving this team

12:18 Speaker 2: credit for their ability to self correct and bounce back,

12:24 Speaker 2: and I'm not sure they passed either of those tests

12:29 Speaker 2: during that Breek home stand. But right if that was,

12:32 Speaker 2: if that was their identity, if that was what they've

12:36 Speaker 2: decided is their identity, they did not play to their identity.

12:42 Speaker 1: That was not So we'll let's let's do a quick

12:46 Speaker 1: spin around the rink. We have the Winter Classic coming

12:50 Speaker 1: up on January second, which to me, I understand why

12:55 Speaker 1: the league is scheduling it on January second, because they

13:19 Speaker 1: facing the New York Rangers, and old friend Brad Marshant

13:23 Speaker 1: is undefeated. Undefeated in Winter Classic games. Mary, are you

13:27 Speaker 1: gonna rub some salt. Yeah, he didn't participate in the

13:30 Speaker 1: game that the Bruins lost against the Montreal Canadians when

13:34 Speaker 1: it was played at Foxborough at the home of the

13:37 Speaker 1: New England Patriots because he was suspended for that game.

13:40 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it was like he did no, no, he

13:42 Speaker 2: was suspended for that. He had done one of his

13:45 Speaker 2: boneheaded things and done himself. This is back in the day,

13:48 Speaker 2: back in his heyday. Brad Marshan Folks is leading the

13:51 Speaker 2: Florida Panthers in goals with twenty two and assists with

13:56 Speaker 2: twenty two. So do with that stat as you want,

14:01 Speaker 2: but I felt compelled to share it. I'm sorry. I

14:29 Speaker 2: because of the fact that two Bruins prospects, Hagen's and

14:36 Speaker 2: Zellers on Team USA TMUSA was down. They had to

14:41 Speaker 2: come from behind when quite literally on the back of

14:47 Speaker 2: James Hagen and Will Zellers. They are the reason they

14:51 Speaker 2: won that game. If you see the highlights, it's just

14:54 Speaker 2: it's just phenomenal and I'm so excited. We're gonna have

14:58 Speaker 2: Marybeth back on the p in about two to three weeks.

15:05 Speaker 2: talking last night and our guess is, for now we

15:09 Speaker 2: will see Hagen's in the black and gold.

15:30 Speaker 2: And then there was question mark whether or not Zeller's

15:33 Speaker 2: would need another year to cook, but quite frankly, seeing

15:36 Speaker 2: how he performed, maybe we'll see him again.

15:39 Speaker 1: It was just it was crazy. It was crazy to see.

15:42 Speaker 2: So go check out those highlights, because why would they

15:45 Speaker 2: put these games on a channel that most people can access.

15:49 Speaker 1: Yeah, I just don't understand. I don't understand, but you

15:56 Speaker 1: years and years. They just can't seemingly get out of

15:59 Speaker 1: their own freaking way with any of this stuff.

16:10 Speaker 1: cashee in the States that the NFL is king. So

16:17 Speaker 2: I want to defend you know, the people of Minnesota

16:20 Speaker 2: here for a minute, because there's been a ton of

16:24 Speaker 2: criticism I've seen online. I don't know if you've seen

16:26 Speaker 2: this of Oh my god, the stands are so empty.

16:31 Speaker 2: This is this, this is the state of hockey. I

16:34 Speaker 2: get it. It is surprising, a little disappointing. But I

16:38 Speaker 2: question again the I guess that's the IF in charge,

16:43 Speaker 2: but also the United States and whoever else you was

16:47 Speaker 2: partnering with the International Hockey Federation to put this game on.

16:51 Speaker 2: I'm putting a bunch of that back on them because

16:55 Speaker 2: there's no excitement. I think you have to be a

16:59 Speaker 2: big hockey fan to know that it's happening. I don't

17:02 Speaker 2: know what the prices are for tickets at the games either, too,

17:05 Speaker 2: So if you consider the fact that if you you

17:09 Speaker 2: know EHL teams or AHL teams that get a lot

17:14 Speaker 2: of fans to come to their games. A lot of

17:17 Speaker 2: times it's because they are already have that built in

17:21 Speaker 2: connection with their community, whether it's local advertisements you see everywhere,

17:27 Speaker 2: cheap tickets, honestly, the gimmicky stuff that you see in

17:31 Speaker 2: a lot of major and minor league no matter what sport, baseball, whatever,

17:35 Speaker 2: they have those things to really make it a much

17:38 Speaker 2: more festive and family friendly environment. You when it comes

17:42 Speaker 2: to juniors, you have to be I think a certain

17:46 Speaker 2: level of hockey fan to even know that it exists.

17:50 Speaker 1: Understand what you're watching.

17:53 Speaker 2: Like, people may think, why would I want to watch

17:55 Speaker 2: a bunch of under eighteens under twenty year olds play hockey?

18:00 Speaker 2: It sounds like it's it sounds like a youth hockey thing,

18:05 Speaker 2: And in reality, you're watching the future of the game,

18:09 Speaker 2: and I don't think people know that exactly.

18:12 Speaker 1: You took the thoughts right out of my head. This

18:15 Speaker 1: is the future of the NHL here. I don't think

18:18 Speaker 1: people know that. And I put that information that.

18:22 Speaker 2: That squarely on whoever is the organizer of these games,

18:28 Speaker 2: because how could you have failed so spectacularly in the

18:33 Speaker 2: state of hockey to have empty seats because it's almost

18:38 Speaker 2: between Minnesota and Massachusetts. Those are the two states I

18:43 Speaker 2: would say that can compete against the entire nation of

18:47 Speaker 2: Canada in a populace that is hungry for hockey all

18:53 Speaker 2: the time. That if oh, there's a free hockey game

18:56 Speaker 2: or a cheap hockey game, I'm going. If it's at

18:58 Speaker 2: a good time, I'm going. He used to go to

19:01 Speaker 2: the college games all the time before I had a kid.

19:05 Speaker 2: Games are at seven, so it's not convenient anymore. But

19:08 Speaker 2: the games were at one o'clock.

19:09 Speaker 1: I'd be in every game, right right.

19:11 Speaker 2: I put this on the organizers ninety percent. And some

19:15 Speaker 2: of the timing is not ideal. Right, people are traveling,

19:20 Speaker 2: everyone's taking a break. You have a kid that plays.

19:24 Speaker 2: I used to have two kids that two kids that played.

19:27 Speaker 2: At some point in time, it's like you want to

19:30 Speaker 2: somewhat detach yourself from the sport. So I wonder about

19:34 Speaker 2: the timing, which is unfortunate because it's a disservice to

19:37 Speaker 2: these young players who are really really good. Like you

19:41 Speaker 2: have the number one player in the world, r Gavin McKenna,

19:44 Speaker 2: who's likely going to go first overall, and he scored

19:48 Speaker 2: a he had a hat trick in a nine to

19:49 Speaker 2: one victory against Denmark. I wonder how many people saw

19:53 Speaker 2: that other than the Canadian copulation or from diehards or

19:58 Speaker 2: the people who actually have NHI network, because again that's

20:02 Speaker 1: The softball, correct, Like why would you do that? Would

20:57 Speaker 2: It's also the prelimbs and that's kind of less exciting.

21:15 Speaker 2: certainly would expect significantly fuller seats. But like, let's be honest,

21:26 Speaker 2: go see Latvia play Denmark?

21:28 Speaker 1: No one's going to a game that. I was just

21:31 Speaker 1: going to say that. No, no disrespect, no disrespect any

21:36 Speaker 1: of those players, Absolutely none. But it's just the nature,

21:41 Speaker 2: You mean to tell me when this game was in

21:43 Speaker 2: Canada that the arena was sold out for Latvia versus Denmark?

21:48 Speaker 1: Was it? Probably not? Probably not? But anyways, take a look, folks,

21:56 Speaker 1: played there. Buffalo Sabers, I need to give them a

22:05 Speaker 1: team a row that this team has won. So they

22:08 Speaker 1: are they, along with the Colorado and a Lanche, are

22:13 Speaker 1: on heaters. The Avalanche I believe, have been on an

22:16 Speaker 1: eight game winning streak and the Buffalo Sabers, who started

22:21 Speaker 1: the season with their fans wanting to like take out

22:25 Speaker 1: ads to get everybody freaking fired. What a what a turnaround,

22:30 Speaker 1: What a turnaround that they have made since now they

22:33 Speaker 1: fired their GM. This kind of winning streak started a

22:37 Speaker 1: little before that, but they have taken on a whole

22:39 Speaker 1: new a whole new light since. Yeah.

22:41 Speaker 2: Look, let's be honest, I think the firing of Kevin

22:45 Speaker 2: Adams was huge for this organization. I mean we've said

22:51 Speaker 2: on the pod in the discord, like, what the heck

22:54 Speaker 2: is this guy doing? And we're just casual observe outside observers,

22:58 Speaker 2: And yes, okay, they were on a winning streak before that,

26:31 Speaker 2: All is okay, Yeah, he's This is probably one of

26:34 Speaker 2: his roughest seasons and we can't know what's happening in

26:38 Speaker 2: his life, and so we hope that whatever is happening,

26:42 Speaker 2: he and his family can can be together and that

26:46 Speaker 2: you know, we see him again soon, because that's another

26:49 Speaker 2: goalie that special place in my heart. Yes, no, I

26:52 Speaker 2: think he always will have a special place in the

26:56 Speaker 2: hearts of many many Bruins fans. So we hope all

27:03 Speaker 2: game was ugly. I have given this team kudos on

27:08 Speaker 2: more than one occasion for their ability to self correct,

27:12 Speaker 2: reset and bounce back. So then we have the Montreal

27:15 Speaker 2: Canadians come in to your house, and for the first

27:19 Speaker 2: forty minutes it was a good game. I think what

27:24 Speaker 2: changed the whole dynamic of that game was when the

27:29 Speaker 2: goal that Elias Lindholm scored with less than five seconds

27:33 Speaker 2: left in that second period that would have given the

27:36 Speaker 2: Bruins a three to two lead heading into the third period.

27:41 Speaker 2: Was called back. Well, it wasn't even called back. It

27:44 Speaker 2: was never even called or waved off. No, it was

27:47 Speaker 2: just waved off. It wasn't right.

27:49 Speaker 1: It was just totally waved off on a suspect goaltender

27:54 Speaker 1: interference call on David Pastronach and there was no challenge made.

27:58 Speaker 1: And many of us, you know, we're listening to the

28:01 Speaker 1: call on the radio or the TV, conflicting information about

28:05 Speaker 1: whether it could be challenged or not be challenged. Bottom

28:08 Speaker 1: line is that could have been challenged by the Bruins.

28:13 Speaker 2: I'm not sure why they didn't challenge it, even with

28:18 Speaker 2: the mindset that the league is on this mission and

28:22 Speaker 2: Toronto is on this mission that when it comes to

28:26 Speaker 2: those calls by the officials, they're pretty much standing with

28:34 Speaker 2: then why the fuck are we even reviewing or challenging anything.

29:11 Speaker 2: we have introduced some people would argue, I'm not sure

29:16 Speaker 2: that I necessarily agree, but some people would argue too

29:21 Speaker 2: much review to the point to the detriment of the game,

29:26 Speaker 2: because it slows things down. But if you have shown,

29:31 Speaker 2: and now I'm talking about the league, that you are

29:34 Speaker 2: open to certain reviewable plays, things that can be reviewed, right,

29:40 Speaker 2: so you can review I believe now delay of game,

29:43 Speaker 2: you know, over the glass, you can review offsides, you

29:48 Speaker 2: can We've always been able to.

29:50 Speaker 1: Review goal whatever.

29:52 Speaker 2: I don't understand why I have not heard more of

29:55 Speaker 2: the conversation around GTI in this particular way, because lately

29:58 Speaker 2: I've been hearing like a lot of a in passing

30:06 Speaker 2: of years there's been a lot of hubbub about goaltender interference,

30:11 Speaker 2: which yes, is subjective. It I get it. In some

30:22 Speaker 2: some instances it's it's it's blatantly visual to all of

30:28 Speaker 2: us that are watching that a defensive player is the

30:32 Speaker 2: one who's causing the interference on his own goalie, right,

30:37 Speaker 2: And like I understand why they also the league doesn't

30:42 Speaker 2: necessarily want to make it more black and white, because again,

30:48 Speaker 2: every situation can be different.

30:51 Speaker 1: I get it, I get it.

30:52 Speaker 2: I'm not saying we need to be, you know, going

30:55 Speaker 2: down the conversation of what is or what is in

30:57 Speaker 2: goaltender interference. What I am saying what enrages me at

31:06 Speaker 2: is a thing.

31:09 Speaker 1: You know, it's a thing.

31:10 Speaker 2: You know when they've gotten it wrong, you know, right,

31:14 Speaker 2: They review all the calls after a game, so you

31:18 Speaker 2: have somewhere a database of how often a call has

31:25 Speaker 2: been gotten wrong.

31:27 Speaker 1: I don't remember now how many years ago. It was

31:29 Speaker 1: a couple of years ago.

31:30 Speaker 2: They established a protocol that if they wanted to review

31:34 Speaker 2: a penalty that they did, they took steps, they call

31:40 Speaker 2: it a major penalty. They then have the ability to

31:44 Speaker 2: review and watch it and then they can downgrade it

31:47 Speaker 2: so that it is an appropriate call made.

31:50 Speaker 1: Loved that new rule, Loved that rule fantastic.

31:54 Speaker 2: Explain to me why with an infract like goaltender interference

32:02 Speaker 2: you wouldn't build in a protocol to give officials the

32:10 Speaker 2: time and space to actually review it properly, because that

32:17 Speaker 2: is mind boggling to me. If you're saying that it

32:19 Speaker 2: has the potential to be so subjective and this game

32:22 Speaker 2: happens so fast and you can't tell was this player

32:25 Speaker 2: pushed in.

32:27 Speaker 1: By their own teammate. Call the goal. You should always

32:33 Speaker 1: call the goal.

32:35 Speaker 2: And then if the official is the one who thinks

32:40 Speaker 2: it was goaltender interference, it shouldn't take a coach's challenge

32:46 Speaker 2: on either side, the defending or the offensive team to.

32:51 Speaker 1: Do that review.

32:52 Speaker 2: If that's what you thought you saw in two seconds

32:57 Speaker 2: in an NHL game where there are bodies all in

33:00 Speaker 2: front of the net, because that's their job, that's how

33:03 Speaker 2: they're supposed to play the game. You think you saw

33:06 Speaker 2: goaltender interference, you better be able to stake your life

33:12 Speaker 2: on it, and if you can't, you call the goal,

33:18 Speaker 2: and to protect the referees, build a protocol that allows

33:24 Speaker 2: them to take the time to review it.

33:27 Speaker 1: I don't understand what they in essence did. They made

33:32 Speaker 1: the job easier easier for the Montreal Canadians, right because

33:38 Speaker 1: they didn't have to waste a challenge on that. And

33:41 Speaker 1: then they grabbed the Bruins by that, you know what,

33:45 Speaker 1: to basically say, I dare you to challenge this. Now. Again,

33:51 Speaker 1: I'm not a coach, I don't profess to be a coach,

33:54 Speaker 1: but I might have challenged that. Now I understand what

33:59 Speaker 1: I understand and what this showed it on the jumbo track.

34:03 Speaker 1: I understand the rationale behind the fact that this mandate

34:07 Speaker 1: is there. It's an unwritten mandate that they're likely not

34:11 Speaker 1: going to reverse the call. But then, as a Boston

34:16 Speaker 1: Bruins you go into a little bit of a panic

34:20 Speaker 1: mode because now you may be second guessing yourself, but

34:24 Speaker 1: the fact that you didn't challenge that goal, you're still

34:27 Speaker 1: to too. To start the third period, and Zach Bolduck

34:31 Speaker 1: scores a goal that, again we're watching it in real time,

34:36 Speaker 1: look like a good goal to all of us. But

34:38 Speaker 1: then you waste a challenge on that and you lose

34:42 Speaker 1: the goddamn challenge and then they're down.

34:46 Speaker 2: So that opened up That opened up the third period

34:51 Speaker 2: to turn into a shit show for the Bruins because

34:55 Speaker 2: the Canadians scored or unanswered goals in that period, two

35:00 Speaker 2: of which were power play goals. That that was a

35:04 Speaker 2: bad night all the way around, for players in the

35:07 Speaker 2: third period and for the Bruins' coaching staff. And you

35:11 Speaker 2: know what, weeken Monday morning quarterback. All we want because

35:15 Speaker 2: that's what we do. We can talk about it in

35:18 Speaker 2: our podcast, we can talk about it on sports talk radio.

35:21 Speaker 2: But me, I have never been a fan of going

35:25 Speaker 2: into the start of a period with a power play.

35:28 Speaker 2: I just think sometimes it takes too long to get

36:26 Speaker 2: Really realize that in an a in a situation like

36:31 Speaker 2: what we saw, it is demoralizing. And I think folks

36:35 Speaker 2: don't necessarily realize even in game, the psychological impact of

36:41 Speaker 2: what's happening out there. I'm I'm sure players like David

36:46 Speaker 2: Pasternak or even all the way down to you know,

36:49 Speaker 2: mikey Asama, they're not sitting there thinking, well, I'm this

36:53 Speaker 2: isn't worth playing anymore.

36:54 Speaker 1: Right.

36:55 Speaker 2: A lot of it is just deep down and then

36:57 Speaker 2: your ability to execute and whatever maybe goes sideways. I mean,

37:01 Speaker 2: it's it does have an impact, like how you're perceiving

37:05 Speaker 2: the game out there, and.

37:06 Speaker 1: The officials like they were horrible.

37:08 Speaker 2: I'm not surprised that the wheels fell off after all

37:12 Speaker 2: of that. And I listened to Morning Brew this weekend.

37:15 Speaker 2: Fortunately the producer knew not to make you wait and

37:19 Speaker 2: for you to be first. I was definitely on your

37:21 Speaker 2: side to and to the extent that we've heard David

37:25 Speaker 2: Pasternak say this. I think we talked about this in

37:27 Speaker 2: a previous episode, and then Marco Sturm about the.

37:31 Speaker 2: That mental fatigue, and look, I get it, that is

38:28 Speaker 1: When I hear any professional athlete reference fatigue. What I

38:34 Speaker 1: want to hear from you is that you played like

38:38 Speaker 1: crap at home. You wasted a valuable opportunity to bank

38:43 Speaker 1: points that would keep you in a playoff contending spot.

38:48 Speaker 1: What I don't want to hear is that your mentally fatigue.

38:52 Speaker 1: I'm not a cold hearted person. I can fully understand.

38:57 Speaker 1: I can fully understand, right because we're all feeling some

39:01 Speaker 1: type of fatigue. And I have never been a professional athlete,

39:06 Speaker 1: nor do I would want to even entertain the thought

39:09 Speaker 1: at this point in my life, however, But you've worked.

39:12 Speaker 1: I have worked a good long time, and I would

39:16 Speaker 1: never allow myself or the people that I work for,

39:21 Speaker 1: the people that rely on me, your stakeholders, my stakeholders,

39:25 Speaker 1: correct that I am not performing up to the abilities

39:30 Speaker 1: that are expected to me because I'm tired. I'm tired.

39:36 Speaker 2: Just say we didn't have it, we were outplayed, We

39:41 Speaker 2: are not playing because we can all see it.

39:44 Speaker 1: We can all see it happening. You're not playing a

39:48 Speaker 1: full sixty minutes. What if we said about this team

39:52 Speaker 1: time and freaking time again. For them to have any

39:56 Speaker 1: sustained success, they have to a solid sixteen minute game,

40:03 Speaker 1: up and down the freaking ice and maybe some will say, Okay,

40:07 Speaker 1: well you're making David Posternac point with the lapses. No no, no, no,

40:11 Speaker 1: no no. You're there to do your job. You're there

41:04 Speaker 2: be honest about what has happened. Yeah, you know, we

41:08 Speaker 2: let our mental fatigue get the better of us, and

41:11 Speaker 2: we weren't playing smart hockey.

41:27 Speaker 2: we are out of shape? That would be completely inexcusable.

41:38 Speaker 2: what you did wrong? No, it's just it's just hearing

41:51 Speaker 2: gonna do about it? Right? If you're not strong enough,

42:06 Speaker 2: seem fatigued. The Montreal Canadians didn't seem fatigued. Yet they

42:15 Speaker 2: down one side of the ice to the other.

42:18 Speaker 1: Now, a game against the Canadians, they played a good

42:23 Speaker 1: forty minutes. I mean that game looked like it was

42:26 Speaker 1: going to have everything right from the junk right we

42:30 Speaker 1: had the fights, we had the back and forth, we

42:33 Speaker 1: had good goaltending on both sides.

42:36 Speaker 2: It's just simply it's the excuse without accountability. And if

42:42 Speaker 2: that's the issue, because again I'm not saying that it's

42:45 Speaker 2: not an issue. You're not saying that it's not an issue,

42:48 Speaker 2: a legitimate issue, So still take accountability.

42:52 Speaker 1: And then then.

42:54 Speaker 2: I would be looking to the coaching staff, the support staff, Okay,

43:00 Speaker 1: Going to do? What are the players going to do

43:02 Speaker 1: to handle that, to deal with it? So in keeping

43:07 Speaker 1: what we have expected from this team, and we heard

43:10 Speaker 1: David Pasternak say and make reference to a reset, so

43:16 Speaker 1: we fast forward him now to the game against the

43:19 Speaker 1: Buffalo Sabers, where I again maybe shame on me, because

43:25 Speaker 1: I've seen this team reset self correct. I expected a

43:30 Speaker 1: bounce back from this team.

43:32 Speaker 2: And the first period, yeah, and let me just say,

43:35 Speaker 2: just to kind of quickly loop in last night's game,

43:39 Speaker 2: it was the first and second periods were almost like

43:43 Speaker 2: a copy and paste of that Buffalo Sabers game that

43:48 Speaker 2: they played, the only difference being that Calgary just doesn't

43:53 Speaker 2: have what it takes to take advantage of when Boston

43:57 Speaker 2: just fails to perform in the way that Buffalo took advantage.

44:07 Speaker 2: at the start of the second period, and I come

44:08 Speaker 2: back with like five minutes and it's three to one.

44:37 Speaker 1: off of the Bruins. The only goal came in the

44:40 Speaker 1: first period from David Pastronach, and you would think that

44:45 Speaker 1: the rest of the team would kind of pick up

44:49 Speaker 1: and follow suit, and it did not. It did not happen.

44:53 Speaker 2: It did not happen, and once again they left Corpie hanging.

44:57 Speaker 2: He gave them time and time again, chance after chance,

45:03 Speaker 1: I just don't understand how.

45:06 Speaker 2: You've got a goalie who makes an awesome save, a

45:12 Speaker 2: timely save.

45:13 Speaker 1: And that doesn't light a fire under you. And and

45:16 Speaker 1: even with the mess that was that second period, I mean,

45:20 Speaker 1: he worked his assof to keep them in the game.

45:24 Speaker 2: So they've wasted him. They wasted him, and I think

45:30 Speaker 2: I was. I heard this on actually on the on

45:32 Speaker 2: the broadcast last night that the Bruins had a practice

45:35 Speaker 2: in Buffalo the day after. They stayed overnight in Buffalo,

45:39 Speaker 2: because this road trip is kind of funny. It's actually

45:41 Speaker 2: very quite spread out, which is good. So they had

45:45 Speaker 2: a chance to have a practice.

45:47 Speaker 1: And a word is that.

45:50 Speaker 2: The theme of the episode was playing with your brain

45:55 Speaker 2: and playing smart hockey.

45:56 Speaker 1: And I will say.

45:59 Speaker 2: Jud Sarat referred to it as spirit uses, a spirited practice.

46:38 Speaker 2: he had great. Yes, it wasn't the game the biggest issue,

46:44 Speaker 2: but they couldn't finish.

46:46 Speaker 1: They had that. We can even fast forward to the

46:50 Speaker 1: overtime period because now Calgary did take it to the

46:56 Speaker 1: Bruins for most of the second period. I don't think

47:03 Speaker 1: second period of that Calgary game, but they did play

47:08 Speaker 1: a solid game for the most part up and down

47:11 Speaker 1: the ice. The thing that killed them is their inability

47:22 Speaker 1: Calgary gives to you. When a team like Calgary, right,
