1:44 Speaker 3: directly related to the Boston Bruins. Because we are in

1:49 Speaker 3: the thick of the Stanley Cup Playoffs right now, we're

1:53 Speaker 3: slowly getting down to the bottom line of those teams

1:58 Speaker 3: that are separating themselves. And typically, folks, we do our

2:02 Speaker 3: setting of the table and then we do our spin

2:05 Speaker 3: around the rank. But it's summer, we're being a little

2:07 Speaker 3: bit more cash So we're just going to dive right

2:11 Speaker 3: in to talk about the teams left in the Stanley

2:15 Speaker 3: Cup Playoffs, and then we're going to get down to

2:18 Speaker 3: the nitty gritty of the Bruins end of season. The

2:23 Speaker 3: end of season press conference by Neely and Company, we

2:27 Speaker 3: have some very detailed conversation. We're going to have some

2:31 Speaker 3: very detailed conversation about a video clip from behind the

2:35 Speaker 3: Bee that directly involves David Pasternap and we both have

2:40 Speaker 3: some thoughts about that, and there's been quite a lot

2:44 Speaker 3: of feedback received on the socials and on our local

2:48 Speaker 3: sports talk radio shows and other podcasts about that pasta clip.

2:53 Speaker 3: But let's start with the Stanley Cup playoffs. So I

2:56 Speaker 3: want to start with the Carolina Hurricanes, and the fact

3:00 Speaker 3: that they have now swept in fine fashion both teams

3:04 Speaker 3: that they have played against. So I ask you, my friend,

3:08 Speaker 3: are they the real deal?

3:10 Speaker 2: Two sweets? They are scary, scary good. And this is

3:16 Speaker 2: a team that has been quietly dominant for at least

3:22 Speaker 2: the last five years. They certainly were the pain in

3:26 Speaker 2: the behind for the Bruins for a number of years.

3:29 Speaker 2: A couple of sears.

3:30 Speaker 3: Thorn in their side is what I would call them,

3:32 Speaker 3: an absolute freaking thorn in their side.

3:35 Speaker 2: And it's interesting because, especially considering this entire season, you

3:41 Speaker 2: and I were both in agreement that it never really

3:43 Speaker 2: seemed like there was a team that took hold of

3:47 Speaker 2: the East because there was just so much competition for

3:53 Speaker 2: nearly every level within the bracket structure that it just

3:57 Speaker 2: never seemed like any team in particular took off. And

4:01 Speaker 2: who knows, maybe that's just because in comparison to the West,

4:05 Speaker 2: things were so much more different, because Colorado really started

4:09 Speaker 2: the season like they were shot out of a cannon,

4:11 Speaker 2: So anything that was happening in the East never could compete.

4:16 Speaker 2: But this is a team that was certainly well in

4:21 Speaker 2: control of their division all season, and we've watched a

4:25 Speaker 2: lot of Carolina hockey over the last few years, because again,

4:28 Speaker 2: they have been in the playoffs, and they've gone deep

4:31 Speaker 2: into the playoffs for many years at this point, and

4:35 Speaker 2: it's been pretty boring hockey leading up to this. But

4:39 Speaker 2: I have to say, first of all, this Carolina team,

4:42 Speaker 2: they've always been good. They've always been extremely dominant when

4:47 Speaker 2: it comes to shots, shot attempts, and shots on goal.

4:50 Speaker 2: That's obviously been their m all season. This is one

4:54 Speaker 2: of the teams few teams I would almost argue to

4:58 Speaker 2: the next level in the playoff. Noticeably, they are scary good.

5:03 Speaker 2: They are efficient, they are relentless, and their goaltender is

5:10 Speaker 2: lights out. He is playing amazingly well. And I think

5:16 Speaker 2: of all the years that I have seen Carolina play

5:19 Speaker 2: in the postseason, this is the strongest I have ever

5:23 Speaker 2: seen them be. To the point where I actually said

5:26 Speaker 2: to some folks both in the discord, my family members,

5:30 Speaker 2: my friends, I think this is a team that, honest

5:33 Speaker 2: to God, could go all the way and I wouldn't

5:36 Speaker 2: be surprised if we see a Colorado Carolina final, because

5:41 Speaker 2: while the way to stop Carolina may sound simple on paper,

5:45 Speaker 2: to be able to execute it, I think would be

5:47 Speaker 2: incredibly difficult. The team that can beat Carolina is the

5:51 Speaker 2: team that has the ability to defensively outplay Carolina because

5:57 Speaker 2: you may have a very good goaltender, but can your

6:00 Speaker 2: very good goaltender survive forty shots a night? No, not

6:05 Speaker 2: every night, not every night, not every night.

6:08 Speaker 3: And I am in full and complete agreement with you

6:12 Speaker 3: on all of your points. And I am going to

6:15 Speaker 3: go as far as to say that Carolina will destroy

6:21 Speaker 3: either the Sabers or the Habs because neither one of

6:25 Speaker 3: those teams seems defensively structured or sound in my view.

6:30 Speaker 3: And I have been watching some of these games, not intently,

6:35 Speaker 3: but especially where the Sabers are concerned. They have a

6:39 Speaker 3: lot of defensemen that forwards even too, standing around watching

6:44 Speaker 3: puck watching. Yeah, and Carolina is just going to chew

6:49 Speaker 3: you up and spit you out if that's the way

6:52 Speaker 3: that you're going to play. And Taylor Hall, Taylor Hall

6:56 Speaker 3: has the fifth highest point total for playoff players still playing.

7:01 Speaker 2: Right now, you want to talk about the second line

7:04 Speaker 2: that has overproduced and overperformed, I could have used a

7:09 Speaker 2: guy like that. Oh wait, wait a minute, we had

7:12 Speaker 2: him and we traded him away for what my frustration.

7:18 Speaker 2: We're going to get to that. As much as I

7:20 Speaker 2: can't stand Rob Brindemore, I don't know what it is.

7:23 Speaker 2: He bugs me, he bugs me, He's obnoxious. That team

7:28 Speaker 2: is very freaking scary. I think at this point the

7:31 Speaker 2: only thing in Carolina's way to getting to the Cup

7:35 Speaker 2: Final is Carolina because notoriously, for the last few years,

7:40 Speaker 2: they've dominated early rounds and then completely choke. Now don't

7:46 Speaker 2: see it. I haven't seen any hiccups even when they

7:49 Speaker 2: get behind, even if it has only happened once. It

7:53 Speaker 2: just it seems to fuel their fire. Honestly, when they

7:57 Speaker 2: get behind. And the other thing that we have also

8:01 Speaker 2: talked about is the fact that rest may be a

8:05 Speaker 2: good or bad thing, and quite frankly, the fact that

8:09 Speaker 2: they swept Philadelphia so quickly. Depending on how long this

8:14 Speaker 2: Sabers Habs series goes, Carolina could be sitting for the

8:18 Speaker 2: better part of two weeks really because by the time

8:22 Speaker 2: they were done, the Habs hadn't even played their third game.

8:25 Speaker 2: So what is that. What's that going to mean for

8:28 Speaker 2: either side? Because one side's going to have just come

8:32 Speaker 2: off of playing, which again could be good, could be bad,

8:35 Speaker 2: would be bad? Right, you never know.

8:38 Speaker 3: They don't get themselves they meaning the Carolina Hurricanes don't

8:42 Speaker 3: get themselves to the Stanley Cup Finals. What is shock?

8:45 Speaker 3: And what a disappointment that will be because they are

8:48 Speaker 3: looking that good that I don't think anyone in the

8:52 Speaker 3: East still left in the game stands a snowballs chance

8:56 Speaker 3: in hell.

8:58 Speaker 2: No, Like I said, we were having this conversation in

9:01 Speaker 2: our discord about is there a team that could defensively

9:05 Speaker 2: out maneuver Carolina, And it was a good discussion. There

9:09 Speaker 2: was talk points made in favor of Montreal over the

9:15 Speaker 2: same course, they have to bote. One of them has

9:18 Speaker 2: to get out. The thing is, prior to their most

9:21 Speaker 2: recent game, I would have said I haven't seen anything

9:25 Speaker 2: particularly impressive on both sides, only because each game leading

9:31 Speaker 2: up to that point had been because the other team

9:35 Speaker 2: didn't show up. The first game, Buffalo was in full

9:40 Speaker 2: control because Montreal really just they weren't on time. They

9:44 Speaker 2: didn't show up on time, They just were late to

9:46 Speaker 2: the series basically, and then the same thing happened, but

9:50 Speaker 2: in inversely for Game two, Buffalo didn't start on time

9:54 Speaker 2: and the Habs did. Things have started to get more

9:57 Speaker 2: interesting as the series has progressed. And I will say

10:01 Speaker 2: prior to especially last night's game in Montreal, I really

10:06 Speaker 2: enjoy their goaltender do Bush. I think he's a great rookie.

10:11 Speaker 2: He's a good goaltender Habs Jersey aside. He had been

10:16 Speaker 2: underperforming in my opinion, in the series up until literally

10:20 Speaker 2: last night, and he was fantastic. Still cannot tell what's

10:27 Speaker 2: actually happening out there, because I will say this in

10:30 Speaker 2: rewatching the highlights of that game. There is an expression

10:34 Speaker 2: in hockey where you play the man, not the puck.

10:38 Speaker 2: And that's an important concept because if all you do

10:41 Speaker 2: is focus on the puck, you've got all these other

10:44 Speaker 2: players around you who are then getting into position to

10:47 Speaker 2: receive the puck, and the puck gets passed a lot

10:50 Speaker 2: faster than you can skate. And if all you're doing

10:53 Speaker 2: is watching the puck, your man that you're responsible for

10:56 Speaker 2: covering is now open. And I got to tell you,

11:00 Speaker 2: every single one of those goals and then some scored

11:04 Speaker 2: by the Habs, were the result of Buffalo playing the

11:09 Speaker 2: puck and not the man. The number of opportunities that

11:14 Speaker 2: Montreal had where the player was wide open, had nobody

11:19 Speaker 2: on him. That was surprising because I'm not recalling having

11:23 Speaker 2: seen that a lot in the Bruins series, and if

11:28 Speaker 2: I let's not forget the Bruins were nowhere near as quick.

11:31 Speaker 3: First of all, nowhere near as quick as the Habs

11:35 Speaker 3: are their offense in that series, the Bruins was not

11:38 Speaker 3: at all flee garage in any way, shape or form.

11:41 Speaker 2: And look, Lyon is also a very good goaltender. His

11:45 Speaker 2: areas of weakness are the cross ice pass, which we

11:48 Speaker 2: saw in I want to say Game two, where both

11:51 Speaker 2: goalies actually really struggled with the cross ice pass and

11:54 Speaker 2: got scored on in those instances. And I think that

11:57 Speaker 2: Lion did a good job considering the number of times

12:00 Speaker 2: he basically had to fend off a Canadian all on

12:05 Speaker 2: his own, and a couple of those goals were just

12:09 Speaker 2: greasy goals they got. One of them got knocked in

12:12 Speaker 2: basically off his own defender, which again to the point

12:15 Speaker 2: saying that the Sabers players were just not where they

12:19 Speaker 2: were supposed to be. One thing that the Sabers had

12:22 Speaker 2: been really good at, especially playing against Boston, was the

12:25 Speaker 2: ability to take advantage of opportunities. But the thing is,

12:29 Speaker 2: the Habs are not presenting the Sabers with opportunities. Basically,

12:33 Speaker 2: their one goal they scored was there were two goals.

12:38 Speaker 2: One was just like a freak like doebush didn't have

12:41 Speaker 2: eyes on it at all. I don't know what he

12:42 Speaker 2: was looking at. But the second one was a power

12:45 Speaker 2: play goal, so they had to be on the man

12:47 Speaker 2: advantage just to even score. So I don't know how

12:50 Speaker 2: that changed.

12:51 Speaker 3: Credit to Marty Saint Louis, but those first couple of

12:55 Speaker 3: games it seemed like Buffalo, excuse me, Montreal couldn't score

13:00 Speaker 3: unless they were awarded a power play opportunity. Where now

13:03 Speaker 3: it's all of a sudden they're getting offense five on

13:07 Speaker 3: five and some of the big guys are finally starting

13:11 Speaker 3: to show up, which could be very detrimental for Buffalo.

13:15 Speaker 2: Yeah. So unless Buffalo figures out how to play the

13:20 Speaker 2: man and not the puck doing the opposite, things are

13:24 Speaker 2: not looking very good for them. But if what Montreal

13:28 Speaker 2: is doing is genuinely that dominating, are they that dominant

13:33 Speaker 2: or are the Sabers underperforming? Yeah? I don't know, kind

13:37 Speaker 2: of feeling like the Sabers are underperforming. Not to take

13:40 Speaker 2: away anything from what Montreal has accomplished. Begrudgingly, I will

13:47 Speaker 2: say but thinking about it in terms of who they're

13:49 Speaker 2: going to have to play next, I don't know if

13:51 Speaker 2: it's enough. I really don't know if it's enough. I

13:54 Speaker 2: don't think either team has enough known because by the time,

13:58 Speaker 2: especially if it is Montreal at all, and if this

14:01 Speaker 2: goes five games or six games, they'll have played almost

14:05 Speaker 2: two full rounds of They'll have played maybe thirteen games,

14:10 Speaker 2: and Caroline has only played eight.

14:12 Speaker 3: I don't know, but it will be interesting to see how

14:15 Speaker 3: Buffalo responds in their next game after getting beat down

14:19 Speaker 3: in similar fashion to how they beat down the Bruins.

14:22 Speaker 3: They lost six to two. They lost six to two.

14:25 Speaker 3: It's embarrassing and it's embarrassing, and they look like the

14:29 Speaker 3: Bruins out there. No, No, they did they did.

14:31 Speaker 2: No. What did I say in the discord the Abs

14:38 Speaker 2: Ruins on that Black Sunday game where they just didn't

15:31 Speaker 2: chase their starting goalie, but that would have only been

15:40 Speaker 2: to continue on to actually stop Colorado. I think again,

15:44 Speaker 2: if Colorado and Carolina are the ones that are in

15:47 Speaker 2: the final, I think Colorado has an equally hot goaltender,

15:52 Speaker 2: they're going to be they'd be potentially even in that regard,

15:55 Speaker 2: and I think, of course Colorado has the elite goal

16:00 Speaker 2: scoring group that probably could get through any kind of defense.

16:05 Speaker 2: It's just whether or not they can stop the shots

16:08 Speaker 2: by Carolina, but that we're getting ahead of ourselves.

16:15 Speaker 3: will admit, given more time the game start, I haven't

16:18 Speaker 3: seen a whole bunch of minutes in this series. Is

16:20 Speaker 3: Anaheim in Vegas. Anaheim is good on them.

16:23 Speaker 2: So I'm not watching that series because I just can't

16:27 Speaker 2: bring myself to care. No, that's part of it.

17:40 Speaker 2: Yes, and so we've.

17:42 Speaker 3: Had a couple of pieces of news items that came

17:46 Speaker 3: out just recently, one of which was the end of

17:49 Speaker 3: season presser, which is normally takes place after every season

17:53 Speaker 3: is officially over, and that happened here in Boston last week.

17:58 Speaker 3: I don't even remember what day it was that Charlie Jacobs,

18:02 Speaker 3: Pam Neely, and John Sweeney addressed the media. Now, normally

18:07 Speaker 3: you hear about this in advance, garyl links that are

18:11 Speaker 3: sent out where you can follow the press conference live. Now,

18:15 Speaker 3: unless I was under a rock or totally not paying attention,

18:20 Speaker 3: I had no idea that it was occurring until I

18:24 Speaker 3: started seeing tweets from media people covering the press conference.

18:29 Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I had no idea either, And I feel

18:32 Speaker 2: like most of the folks in our fabulous discord also

18:36 Speaker 2: were not aware. This one was weird. Marco Sturm was

18:40 Speaker 2: not there. In the past, we've seen the coaches also

18:44 Speaker 2: in attendance. I don't know how common or uncommon that

18:48 Speaker 2: fact is, but it certainly felt very low key. And

18:53 Speaker 2: maybe it's because, certainly last year we were looking for

18:56 Speaker 2: it because we were all very mad about last season.

18:59 Speaker 2: But this was very quiet. I'm not sure that there

19:02 Speaker 2: was a ton of news that even really came out

19:05 Speaker 2: of it, which is also a little surprising because you

19:07 Speaker 2: would think to some degree they would want to come

19:12 Speaker 2: out and be tooting their own horn. Because, as we

19:15 Speaker 2: will talk about in a little bit, the season was

19:17 Speaker 2: a success. Well, it was certainly better than any of

19:21 Speaker 2: us expected. I think given the roster, you had a

19:24 Speaker 2: new rookie, kad coach, you had questions up and down

19:28 Speaker 2: your roster for the most part, So yes, I would

19:31 Speaker 2: say they for me, they performed better than I expected

19:35 Speaker 2: to because I didn't even have them making the playoffs,

19:39 Speaker 2: and what I find annoying about both Nealye and Sweney.

19:44 Speaker 3: Charlie Jacobs, to me is just a person who sits there, right.

19:48 Speaker 3: He's the Jacob, He's the anointed Jacob's family representative. He

19:54 Speaker 3: adds nothing of any value or significance.

19:58 Speaker 2: I don't know why he's honestly even there, because he

20:53 Speaker 3: the Florida Panthers that we needed to get stronger, tougher. Okay,

21:06 Speaker 3: fast forward to this pressor that took place just last week,

21:11 Speaker 3: and I hear Kim Neely say, we need to get faster.

21:14 Speaker 3: Wait a minute, wait, just a freaking minute. Now you're

21:19 Speaker 3: saying because it seems to me, we tried the we

21:23 Speaker 3: need to get faster thing, and then we went to

21:26 Speaker 3: the knee to get stronger on the back end. So

21:29 Speaker 3: now we're going back to we need to get faster.

21:32 Speaker 3: So what team are we chasing now? Camp that we

21:36 Speaker 3: want to build our team against? And you, idiot, we

21:39 Speaker 3: all know that we don't have a number one center.

21:42 Speaker 3: You befooled, and whose fault is that?

37:43 Speaker 2: I And last season, my god, we had a wheel

37:46 Speaker 2: to choose which of these things was gonna happen where

37:50 Speaker 2: they would lose the game. That was so gross. That

37:52 Speaker 2: was so gross, and yet it was actual, but it

37:56 Speaker 2: was right. Yeah, my initial thought was certainly colored by

39:17 Speaker 2: COVID years accordingly. Average season finished with fifty two wins,

39:27 Speaker 2: sixteen points. Now, that may seem like significantly better, but

39:31 Speaker 2: the points percentage six forty nine, so six' ten six

39:36 Speaker 2: forty nine not terribly. Different forty five wins fifty two. Wins,

39:41 Speaker 2: okay maybe it's a little bit lower than. Average, however

39:45 Speaker 2: the other THING i wanted to point out THAT i
