Faith in the Kids: Sturm’s System Takes Hold | Snap Shots Episode 58

0:00 Speaker 1: Marco Sturm continues to put his faith in the young kids, giving players like Marat Husnadinov a chance to prove himself and become an essential part of this team. Additionally, there's no denying that Hampus Lindholm's return is making a massive positive impact on the blue line. It seems that Sturm's system is finally starting to make sense to these players and the lines are starting to really gel. Can the Bruins make up for their recent abysmal showing against Ottawa when they host them on Thursday night?

0:38 Speaker 2: The Boston Bruins continued their winning ways by defeating the New York Islanders on Tuesday night by a score of four to three. It took over time and a shootout in order for the Bruins to secure the extra point, but these points, as we all know, are huge at this time of the year. The first period was relatively quiet for both teams, as neither team gave the other anything by way of any type of sustained offensive pressure. Andy Brickley referred to the first period as quote unquote efficient. Some of us might say it might have been a little bit boring, but be that as it may, the second period was worth the price of admission, as most of the scoring occurred in that second period with the team's trading tallies.

1:34 Speaker 2: But what got my juices flow in was Nikita Zadorov welcoming Matthew Schaeffer to the NHL when he and the young phenom got into a bit of a scrum in the Bruins end, which drew the attention and rightfully so, of Matthew Schaeffer's teammates on the Islanders, and frankly, I'm here for it with that type of hockey. That's the kind of hockey that I expect to see from the Bruins' defenceman that carries the likes of Nikita Zadorov and Charlie McAvoy and Hampis lind Holme. So I had no problem with Zadorov sending a bit of a message to the young man saying, you want to dance and dangle in our own end, there may be a bit of a price.

2:27 Speaker 2: Marco Sturm continues to seem to be pulling all of the right strings with this team in that he decided to shorten the bench in the third period of the Islanders game, which saw the fourth line, which includes Johnny Beecher and Tanner Janeau not getting a significant amount of ice time because Marco is well aware of the importance of getting as many points in the standings as possible. The game, as I said, did go to a shootout, and once again Merritt Hustadinov is proving his worthiness as a member of the Boston Bruins, and he had an absolute snipe shot that beat Soroken for the only goal in that shootout.

3:19 Speaker 2: Jeremy Swayman once again stood tall, did his job. The Bruins' penalty kill was pretty much on point all of the night. All in all, that was a good win and just a piece of advice for Wes McAuley, sir, and maybe time for you to consider retiring your whistle, as there were numerous questionable penalty calls on both sides during the course of that game, and then blatant calls that were ignored. So Wes, I don't know what you were watching during that game against the Islanders and the Bruins, but you might want to take a look at the game film.

3:58 Speaker 1: Boston didn't get to face their former goalie Linis Allmark in their last matchup on October twenty seventh. He's not had the best of starts either, but then again, the Senators are still working on improving their on ice product. The Sons are currently maintaining a negative five goal differential while their captain Brady Kuchuk continues to be out on ir. That being said, Boston lost seven to two in their previous outing, and all the usual suspects from Ottawa were to blame at five on five. Shane Pinto and Drake Batherson are quite troublesome, and let's not forget about the league's most beloved diver, Tim Stutzla, who not only has the ability to fool every ref out there, but he can also score.

4:45 Speaker 1: Along with Pinto and Cousins, Stutzler leads the team in goals with eight, six and six respectively. Since playing against Boston, Ottawa has had a regulation loss, a shootout win, and an overtime loss. The Bees better take advantage of the chaos currently surrounding this Senator's team. Among the starting goalies as in those who have played at least nine games so far, Almark is dead last with his three point four to one goals against average and last in save percentage with an eight sixty one.

5:20 Speaker 1: Even if we look at goalies who have played six or more games to include Corpus Solo in the mix, all mark falls to third from the bottom, well below Corpi's eight eighty two save percentage and three point four to nine goals against average and Swayman's three point one zero goals against average an eight ninety seven save percentage. Whatever the reason for this form of Vesner Winner's tough start, if Boston can take advantage and actually played defensively, this could end up a more evenly matched game than the last time.
