There’s frustration, nostalgia, a few laughs, and a whole lot of Bruins talk—because even when Boston isn’t on the ice, they’re never far from our minds. If you're still replaying missed chances and wondering what’s next, this one’s for you.📲 Follow us on X, Instagram & Blue Sky ➡️ @TapetoTapeMK

Speaker 1: Happening now. Yes, all right, cheers the Brad Brad.
Speaker 2: Very special episode of Tape to Tape fifth evening.
Speaker 1: Yes, I live from uh not Pj's whole Field Club cammering with outside of Albany. Uh other Pj's to cross the street, the Dirk beer. That's the green place, green plate. Everybody hanged up, hanged up fifty feet from a highway, no matter where you are, that's Albany. Well, that's Albany. Yes, you want to call New York the concrete jungle where we're here to celebrate. Let's staying here. Yeah, the start of the finals, so real. Uh it's the uh new boss, same as old boss. We're gonna running back and do it again and we'll see whether not thinks are not differently this time.
Speaker 3: Yes?
Speaker 1: Do you think they've sort have keepen remotely?
Speaker 2: Actually imagine that they would be here today on off side?
Speaker 1: Are you asking? Are you asking me if anybody on the team anything going to turn out the way it it did? I don't think anyone would have, Like I mean, yeah, like if there was ever was a uh how it started, how it's going sample? Uh did I think that I think Berkshaw was going to be on the Panthers and and Frederick was going to be on a Stanley Cup competing game. No, no, I didn't. No, this is weird, This isn't This is definitely some darkest timeline ship happening. Yeah, and I'm deeply, deeply confused since I watch all this unfold and ah, so yeah, I guess I guess to answer your question and a not short way and all of No, I'm I'm more surprised if Frederick being here that I am in Markshaw being here, because I kind of forgot that Frederick went anywhere, and then all of a sudden it's like, oh wait, he's on Edmonton too.
Speaker 2: So yeah, and so how pissed are you going to be? In his name goes on that family come before David Foster or not.
Speaker 1: I mean, I don't. If you're asking me that I I have to. That's gonna require me feeling anything, and I haven't felt anything at all. But I'm dead inside. I'm not. No, I mean Frederick, if he left and nothing else happened, we would have solved the problem Frederick copying with us. It's the least of the least of the problems we tried. We tried to solve, and the least of the problems we ended up having as a result of a trade deaf. So I don't it's like that. I don't really think about him anymore.
Speaker 1: Stuff on our teeth. Jesus, you know, I still think that I harbor more conflict about Florida's presence here but in general, than I do about Fred being here at all. That makes sense, Explain, explain. It's a really good team. They my issues with basically everything with their uh with especially going back to Paul Maurice, who three seasons ago I felt was unsufferable. I know I can't deny as an excellent coach. I've had to undo a lot of my opinions about a lot of things regarding that entire franchise.
Speaker 1: I acknowledge that they're not a fluke. No matter who they shod, they seem to be able to come back and do it again. Yeah, but their strategy seems to also undeniably involved contesting one important person on every team they face on their way to the Cup finals. And I can't blush that as I watched them prepare to play tonight. At the same time, Brad's on the team, But they're also from Florida, and I am. I am deeply I'm deeply botched up no matter how I look at it. My safest my safest thing is just to be like, well, let's let's go fruit from McDavid.
Speaker 1: Let's see what happens. Yeah, always for Brad always, I mean again, I mean yeah, I don't know so I can't even remember when you asked me anymore. I'm just so confused. How did I get here? I'm on the side of a highway and all, Butody, what am I doing here? Anyway? What do you? What do you? The same question to you.
Speaker 2: Carolin Fields, really weird that this is where we are, that you've got these two players.
Speaker 1: Getting ready to play for the Cup in this situation. It's very weird to me. I don't like it.
Speaker 2: Because it feels like it's not that's not how it's supposed to be, right, And I also I have also started to Oh, I gotta say.
Speaker 1: I liked Florida. That's that's an interesticular, yeah, saying that. I don't know, let's explore that. Please tell me more of what would you like about Florida?
Speaker 2: I don't like Florida, but you said you started to like. No, I said, I'm not saying I'm starting to like them. I'm saying, uh, I dislike them.
Speaker 1: A little bit lost, And that's not facetious. I'm actually saying, let's explore them. Why do you like? Definitely I'll me a fear about that. How that makes you ask me how I feel? I mean, I think it helps that.
Speaker 2: No, they all didn't get in the way of Boston's chance this year, so that helps because they didn't end Boston's see things, so we were not on the receiving end of the dirty place, so that helped.
Speaker 1: I I like stories.
Speaker 2: I used to find him also completely insufferable, although he's gone back a little bit to like if it were a full circles, he's coming right back a little bit to the insufferable because of the whole handshake line thing, Like, fine, if that's what you want to do, I have no problem with it.
Speaker 1: It makes sense to me.
Speaker 2: It's and you know what, people can change their minds, right, He used to go through the handshake line. Now he doesn't go through the handshake line. Fine, But the the exchmed with Carolina and Rod Brindamore, I.
Speaker 1: Was not aware of the fact that it was him saying.
Speaker 2: Like, we are not going through the line, because that's what he did with like Rube. But ahead of time, they agreed, they agreed to it before the series even started, that.
Speaker 1: They weren't going to shake hands in the line.
Speaker 2: And then the gate the series ends in Carolina, and I guess he's telling Rod like, we're not like like we you and I are not going through this line. And he didn't like that, which like, yeah, I mean, first of all, surprise. Second of all, is your prerogative. You can do what you want. But as a coach, like I understand, you don't want to make or have the ampectation that like health equipment, man, if you or your trainer is necessarily going through the line to shake the other teams players. I get that, okay, And yes the players are priority, but the coaches were players most of the time.
Speaker 1: They know these guys and they have respect for these players.
Speaker 2: So if a coach wants to go through, if Rod wants to go through and shake Markov's head because he thought he had a great game, his right.
Speaker 1: To do that. So that whole situation kind of didn't care for that. Yeah, yeah, that's interesting. And just because they didn't used to do it.
Speaker 2: Doesn't mean that it was better. They didn't used to wear helmets. Yeah, they used to do a lot more clutching and graphic.
Speaker 1: So Maurice has been gone through any any of the lines, not this year, not this year, last year, you last year enough, and you can't even you can't even maintain it's a super system.
Speaker 2: I don't and I don't have a problem with it. Like I wouldn't call in a hypocrite for that. I wouldn't because people are entitled to change their opinions, to change their mind, right. Yeah, maybe he about it.
Speaker 1: It's like, you know what, I'm not going to do that or whatever. Okay, but that kind of a bob he's trying to make someone else also do that. That sounds like it feels like it's he's concerned about the optics of another coach going through and him not and what might be said after their factors.
Speaker 2: But if we already know, yeah, by the third round, everybody knows he's not going.
Speaker 1: Through, that's true for that reason. Okay, Yeah, that so I don't know. I thought that was kind of turned me off. Still do not like I don't like keep either. Take sure how do you know Keith. Sorry, I thought we were talking about somebody else. Never mind, I struggle with that. And also Pertusie, I have to call him Burt because I always want to call him Todd otherwise. Okay, yeah, so yeah.
Speaker 2: And I have more respect also for Bob as a goaltender, although I still think he was beatable last year.
Speaker 1: Funny about Bob, He's always beatable in theory, and then he just isn't. Yeah, I'm talk about a guy who's like more prone to going hot, Like I've never seen a goal, his entire reputations completely overpaid and watched up, and then he just turns it on and it is unbeatable. But history shows he should be beatable. Yeah, but then you but you're not feed them, So what is that?
Speaker 2: Okay, because the players, the team in front of him, I think is better. So if he's having an off night, yeah, but the team in front of him can basically cover.
Speaker 1: His sins for that game.
Speaker 2: Okay, they're gonna maybe lock down the shot attempts more so if he's going to be letting in more goals, but they they stopped more goals. You kind of it's a washy And that's how I think they beat the Bruins last year in the second round because the scoring bru and scoring right now, they couldn't score.
Speaker 1: And that wasn't because Bob. No, that was a problem we've been having for a large stunk of the season. Yes, but I mean it's you know, and when you talk about look Xac in the story this year and last year, you think about which goalies are overpaid. The legend of Bob is that he is no longer an overpaid goaling and swimming and cho Starkin ar Maybe.
Speaker 2: So happened though to Bob When he left Columbus to get his ten million dollars a year deal, Everyone was like, what the heck?
Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, that great. So who's fave veteran the veteran goaltender on an underperforming team that needed somebody to stand between the pipes? Yep. And I feel like it was it was paid that much to get him to go there. Yea, not because he felt like that was what I'm it was. I want him. I don't want to be in Ohio anymore.
Speaker 2: I want to be where the weather is nice year round and they're gonna pay me money.
Speaker 1: Sure, franchise, not not even the good one for the time, right, so like you need to sweeten the deal. But then I mean, they're top down, You've got the entire terrandigm up. The Florida Panthers has splipped where suddenly you're you're arguing whether or not Bob's that had been any dog? Are you never a ten million dollars goal tempt that wasn't I don't think that was the nature of the deal that brought there. You just said, you know, like and but now you're you know, now they're they got a stiff of being competitive.
Speaker 1: Yeah a few seasons ago and suddenly you're evaluating them like they're the Lightnings and they aren't. Right, they weren't.
Speaker 3: Well, they play a.
Speaker 1: Completely different game to what like the Lightning were.
Speaker 2: Everyone's talking about how oh in the last five years, no next year, the last six years that have gone through Florida. But those two teams I don't think play the same. Kina Pot like the way that the when Tampa Bay was that it's they were a much more They were more of an elite scoring team with a significantly better goaltender. Holda is playing like it nineteen ninety and I think that's because of Coke and bringing in and attracting players are aligned with that particular philosophy. Like I think what worked, Like that's a huge piece that I don't know that I've heard a lot of Rocky heads actually discussed in depth, is the power of the buy in and the culture for the player.
Speaker 2: So like Boston from twenty eleven until probably two or three years ago, that culture like, oh, everybody knows the culture, they want to be there.
Speaker 1: We all buy into it, and it worked, right if it's produced a team for like fifteen.
Speaker 2: Years, right, And then as we could all tell, as we talked about, as Maria mentioned back in the ball something's wrong in that losser room because something was happening to the culture of that team.
Speaker 1: And then you have Florida.
Speaker 2: I think that that's either Blue or that particular team that they all buy into this nineteen nineties style of play. They all like it, they're all good at it. It's completely different than the game that anyone else plays in the league right now.
Speaker 1: So they can beat that because those guys, the other guys don't know how.
Speaker 2: Play against that. They don't play that style. They're the only ones that play that style. And I just think that it is unbeatable. I don't know anything about Edmonton or how good they are.
Speaker 1: That's yeah, but I don't. I don't see anyone eating this team so famous last word, no, no, no, I would know. So I would to take what you said and is still it down like a nice it's new.
Speaker 1: If you were writing the story of this team darting three years ago of the Panthers, you would take a team that. Oh, all right, So before you even say that, let's back up and talk about the Bruins of the culture today. Built It Runs, did a pretty good jobb nachos. Yeah, trying to take a quick sponsor break. What we talked about. The nachos available in brew House some of the best nasis you're going to get this side of the highway. It's an alpeny in Saratoga's Greates.
Speaker 4: All right, Bruins fans, if you're thinking about picking up some new gear, now's the time. I'm already planning to grab a fresh poster neck jersey this fall. Who knows, maybe he's rocking a new letter on the front. The NHL Shop is running tons of season ending and summer sales right now, including twenty percent off fanatic skier and here's the best part. When you through our link in the show notes, a portion of your purchases helps support this podcast. Same gear you'd find at the pro shop, but with way better perks.
Speaker 4: So stock up, save big, and help keep Bruin's Tape to Tape rolling all year long.
Speaker 1: France, historically, even going back to twenty left, were vocal about chasing where they thought the league was gone. Yeah right. So the competing team in twenty eleven books similar to twenty thirteen, but very different than from the twenty nineteen team, right, and all of them and all of it. It was decided that the leak was moving away from the grinded out enforcer old time hockey stuff exemplified by feeling Sean Thornton to Florida. Right, and you were writing the story of these teams rated such that you can imagine Boston facing after a bus that is gradually pulling away from it, Yeah right, until they could no longer chase it, and they're left with where they are at now, whereas three seasons ago they get to Chuck go up against Boston and Maris loses it on the team and gets them to buy in on this.
Speaker 1: You know, clapshot Paul Newman full time hockey thing, yep, and why can't you play it this way?
Speaker 2: Right?
Speaker 1: And no one's really prepared for it. And now suddenly everyone's trying to be like Florida, where they haven't tried to be like Florida for the last twelve years.
Speaker 2: Well, and then makes me think of another thing. That's when Boston was at its yeat. That going back to that culture. That's something that no other team had, No other team had that, right, Florida has something that no other who can Yeah, and so you're visual of I just imagined Ton Sphoenie's facing after a bus. It's like, yeah, you're all these teams are going to try and emulate that style.
Speaker 1: But because it's all knock off, O good good?
Speaker 5: Yeah?
Speaker 1: Can I get an order of pries? Thanks?
Speaker 2: Nachos, I'm a pride speed number one fried pizza.
Speaker 1: It's not gonna lie. I was actually looking forward to nachos. Now I gotta do something. He railed. Looks like our season all plans. If you asked me when I walked in here, if I thought we would be ending up here by the side of the highway for the prom, I not in nowhere change in your order to fries leaving me just sorry please well means continue your thoughts.
Speaker 2: No, but like again, it's the teams that have something unique.
Speaker 1: Are the teams that I think can build and and build do build those mini dynasties. We're never gonna see dynasties like we saw already were based starting this week. Oh geez, don't don't get it out to yourself, but sorry, go on.
Speaker 6: No, but I mean, like, you know, decade, like you look at the halves from fifty years ago. Okay, that's never gonna that's you're never gonna have that again, right, or even four cups in a row for Islanders or Edmondon or whatever.
Speaker 1: Right, well, love for you, have a question for you when you're good.
Speaker 5: Yeah.
Speaker 2: So, like the closest that they can get in the modern era is like Pittsburgh's back to backgrounds or Detroit even had some the Devils had some, or Chicago the Bruins would have if they had won those cups that they didn't.
Speaker 1: Win, you know, And so Bruin should be like Chicago that they won. Most guys, yes, exactly, we'd probably we would probably still be exactly where we are now. Oh, but we may have two more cups. Instead we should have a bottom at least one more which sidebar.
Speaker 2: I thought for a long time that nothing was going to replace bitterness of the year we don't talk about.
Speaker 1: I got a couple of those whichun are you talking about twenty nineteen or twenty nineteen.
Speaker 2: And now I can say twenty nineteen, I talk about it.
Speaker 1: Because something worse as they're past that. Yeah, yeah, twenty nineteen sucks. That was more. But anyways, I mean, hey, listen, if you want to, if you want to tuck yourself a little bit about this whole thing. The for me wasn't you know you look at twenty thirteen. First of all, twenty eleven we won twenty twelve, what we lost to montre in the first round where I did not think we were releasing that that damn game and we didn't, all right, And then we go in twenty thirteen where we have Yoger instead of at Gauinla.
Speaker 1: But then twenty fourteen we had at Guinla and who got in the way of the puck and the net hit the puck square in the back of his shoulders against Montreal that went off. Brad marsham bag and then twenty nineteen run back instead of getting off the ice at the end of the first period. But in that first goal in that was Brad Marshall. Yeah, so I don't know, I still love him. I wish he wasn't gone, but it wasn't the center of a couple of Had he not been where he was, things probably would have gotten Like I chucked that up to the gods.
Speaker 1: Right, that's that's just Oh yeah, I know, Hey, it's gonna order food too. Yeah, I think I could have played Nacho Chicken. So I'm trying to be heart healthy. But earlier you mentioned Detroit, and I actually think that the words run is analogous to the Detroit because Florida played a system, yes, the same way that that Detroit did, whereas Edvington is uh superstar players that stand out there.
Speaker 2: There's nothing unique about them, right, Like they have McDavid and dry title, but like that's it.
Speaker 1: And you can't build a Stanley Cup, right.
Speaker 2: But you can't like build that dynasty on single players. If you could, then Vegas would have would have. That's why I think Vegas hasn't done anything, you know.
Speaker 1: I mean, I think there's a direct there's a direct comparison between You could draw a line between Edmonton with dry title and McDavid through Pittsburgh with Crosby and Malton yep, because like the majority of their their payroll goes to those two guys. You're just building a team around those guys. Yeah, they don't have I mean, unfortunately you got Stuart Skinner and you don't have Marc Andre Fleury. But even then, Mark Condrick Floria was questionable until he wasn't right, the guy that that couldn't catch a break until he caught four cups.
Speaker 1: So this could go, This could go either way. I don't know what to make of this series. One might think that that I mean, you can say they're gonna run it back and do it again. Yeah, it's largely the same structure. It's longly the same heroes, largely the same heroes, larger, the same systems. Maybe steam weren't a little something. I mean, I do think they're both better, Yes, I think they're a little bit more fire hardened as well. Edmonton certainly, like if they both.
Speaker 2: Got better to the same degree. Yeah, so my mind, that's still keeps puts Florida ahead.
Speaker 1: Perhaps the problem with Florida is that, without question, there's always one series where they where they get out ahead and then they start coasting. Like you can almost guarantee that there's going to be a point in time where they perceive them selves to be fine and they're not necessarily pop. Example, let's talk about last year finals, Okay, and then do you think they coasted in Game four? I think, well, I gotta I gotta go. Well, they were up three nothing and then almost flew the whole thing.
Speaker 1: They went down to nothing against Toronto, right, and then they uh, they pay They played Carolina right, up three nothing against Carolina and then suddenly they got blown out, right. I think I think they have a tendency to I don't know what it is, but they don't. One would think that a team don't like that would put the foot on the neck when they have the ability to do it, and they kind of do it. They kind of don't.
Speaker 7: But is it maybe because the players can do that are injured or like, like to Chuck, he's not He's obviously not himself and obviously not well mhm, he's a guy who would do something like that.
Speaker 1: Oh, I'm not talking literal foot on the deck I'm talking about, Like, let's interesting question, who do you think would get the murder on the open eye? Because Kentuck is clearly hurt me literally either But no, but like I honestly thought, I mean, here's the funny thing. What was the story of the last round? The story of the last round was Carolina on the verge of losing sixteen commerce final games in a row. Right, Yeah, so we're the ability to just demoralize another team. They're up three nothing?
Speaker 1: Why did they was that game? Why did they? And why did they go down to do nothing against Toronto? Like I that one didn't make sense? But that one did not make a lot of sense to me. And if we're back here we're talking about lessons learned. I don't know how you go up three games and nothing and almost lose it. Right, So clearly my mind's gonna my mind's very clearly going in that direction now that we're back in the playoffs again, to be like they're steamrolling through the opponents. But that Carolina thing was like, man, why'd you looks bad?
Speaker 2: You know?
Speaker 1: And and so there was I mean, to be clear, I never thought Carolina was going to come back, but it was like you had the ability to do something in and in kind of humiliating bro Bridimore, who was the he's about the last guy who the score ruggle in the in a in at a conference final when they went on and one that year, and now he's the coach, and it's like, I don't know. Yeah, I mean again, that's very small. That's a small thing. But if if any you're gonna look for any chinking forward his armor, you may look for it there.
Speaker 1: Because again, like I don't like, Edmonton is just not a it's not a team with a lot of personality. They're led by a man who's afraid of catch up. And I love it. Yeah, I mean you say he's afraid. I say he's still alive. So we don't know. Ah, here we go. But the dead silence is that the players have taken into the ice now, so look quiet now looking at the white ups, taking some time to admire the beards. Some of those are pretty uh yeah, i'd been David's tripping and I don't appreciate that. Well, he should know better.
Speaker 1: That's why they're gonna lose.
Speaker 2: No. I think the Carolina game that was another one that felt very much so like the gods were toying with everyone because that was the game.
Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that was the game where the puck would never settle for Florida. It never settled, So that was in Florida, right, and it was bouncing all over the place. They could not make that thing do what they needed to do.
Speaker 2: And I'd said that in the discord and then the I think it is maybe the next day or whatever on thirty two thoughts.
Speaker 1: Literally one of them said, I don't know if you could see this on to me, but the puck was just.
Speaker 2: Bouncing everywhere, and I'm like you right, well, yeah everywhere.
Speaker 1: The gods have to give him month humble, I guess, I guess. So, uh, there it is the comp Have you been to the Hall of Fame?
Speaker 2: I have, Yeah, I have, although I think it was the fake cup that they have that right because it was summer.
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it makes sense and.
Speaker 2: I felt so I don't even know had it.
Speaker 1: I think it was in high school. The one thing to say about the Hall and I definitely want to go back because you don't necessarily realize until you were standing right next to it how much text is over every inch of that cup, not just on the rings. Yeah, around yeah, but around all the width and up around the cup and inside the cup there is every square inch of that bowl and all of the cylinders and rings are covered bit tight. That was gorgeous. Thank Yeah. It's kind of long because you enter into a enter it in the downstairs of the mall, which when you first like a mall, like what I think we would know and like in the United States, like there's a mall right there, Like, yeah, that's fast.
Speaker 3: It's like an.
Speaker 1: It's a small mall and it's like downstairs, so you think they're going into the basement of the mall and then you walk in and these exhibits, but but it goes I feel like it's walking into like an antil. Eventually you lose you lose track of where you are in this mall. Yeah, and then suddenly you're in this like vaulted cathedral and you're like, but I'm still somewhere in the mall. I don't know where I am anymore. Well, by that point you're in the whole bank, I guess, so we're in an old bank and all at that back.
Speaker 1: Yeah, really really quick, quite cool. But so that's my heart cell on going to the mall in Toronto, it goes to r exactly there it is. Here we go, we're yammering away Edmonds, you discorged the game eighteen fifty four. Uh, we go, we're off, Yeah, you're Caroline is so help beads on Florida wedding. Sometimes there one go for the series of motherfuckers. Hope everybody hustle. It's very far out of his street. There got a position. For get that that I chalk up to a defensive breakdown on Florida because there there for that, only too much blue around that crease.
Speaker 1: And then that one Florida.
Speaker 2: Was it a Florida defender who just went like flying like certain the tire job.
Speaker 1: See the guys, it doesn't well, it doesn't matter. You can't know he's so he gets tripped. I think he's tripped. She can't call that goaltender interference. He was tripped onto his butt, like where to god? Is it a goal? Even stop? I wish they had close cast to be clear. I don't think it's full tender interference, but I don't think I think part of it is also that, but only because he I don't think he really made enough contact with Skinner to make a difference. Yeah, this one's challenge. That's got to be g G. I you went down on a sewing.
Speaker 1: There was challenged because then Florida has a power player. Yeah, okay, Benethel on his own. I agree. I think Bennettel on his own because he didn't know that someone was there or that's the body part saying there because they had been to get a stationary Yeah.
Speaker 2: Well, regardless it was, it's still not goaltender interference.
Speaker 3: Right.
Speaker 2: If he falls, I give you fall like it's truly an accidental fall.
Speaker 1: Would that be considered so that we should save this for the intermission? I don't know. I don't know what the rules are. We needs the rules, and we have debate. Where are rules experts when we need them? Not just are good?
Speaker 3: I don't know.
Speaker 1: He's so angry, so angry, that's Whe'm going from. He's gonna stay in Florida. I don't know. If he wins, is that retiring? No, But if he wins, he may move cultray of homes. Oh no, no way, no way.
Speaker 2: I see him like we talked about the culture in the fifth he Yeah, he's that those.
Speaker 1: Are his people, those are his people. Yeah, And I think I don't.
Speaker 2: Know what if it was the just the sheer weight of the captaincy, because I think Mary Beth Puts said it in the discord that since leaving Boston he is playing like a cue weight.
Speaker 1: Has been lifted off his shoulders.
Speaker 2: And I don't know if it's just the general sheer weight of the captain I am recording.
Speaker 1: We're recording, all right, okay.
Speaker 2: Or if there was something else in Boston, like I think we all knew that he was not like Bergeron in the like the warm fuzzies department, right, And I.
Speaker 1: Don't know if he then thought that that's what he had.
Speaker 2: To be, and so he was trying to be something he's not and now he's back to being who he is.
Speaker 1: I don't know, but I got I got thoughts on this. I will dive on this till Marshaun is not the problem with the fucking team. He was like, you want to hang the entirety of of of a failed season around by sansday. I know you don't, no, no, no, no. Hypothetically, figure, why didn't you know what? You take the week a week goal skip scorer and playmaker that will not stop until his hips explode out of his body, fat back, and put them on a functioning team. That it's a system in place where everyone knows their role.
Speaker 1: And look at him flourished. A few months ago people were questioning how much he had his tank. Don't want questioning that anymore, so.
Speaker 8: I think, and I think that though that questioning happening further a couple of years mm hmm, like he just doesn't have it anymore and blah blah blah.
Speaker 1: But I sipper intata system. Then I think they had aunced him on wobbly lick. If you want to talk about the personnel there at m H do you want to talk about the birth? The personnel the berther on a birth are on law left.
Speaker 2: What he's telling me the my constructive team, some portly constructed team.
Speaker 1: It's a proably constructed team with questionable coaching and a team that was deeply, deeply suffering from the spindrome of the pearl that the copper tears. I I think I think that everybody thought it was gonna be okay, I get right, And you've got the only guy that remembers that it's not automatically guaranteed. It's the guy we traded to Florish. Yeah right, yeah, So as I listened to Even Morning in Broom not too long ago, about who's gonna be the next captain. Oh, I'd love to see maciplites, you know what?
Speaker 1: The guy I want as a captain. The guy that was that was overheard leaving a practice either last season or before the season a boor thing. Tighten it up, it's not good enough. And that Marshan. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah over the guy that never happened, nothing could ever happened, was winning in his hotel, right, yeah, that's youth in an experience. Yeah, and the entire and and there are a lot of people being like, oh, was Marshan the problem guy? Oh I don't think that at all.
Speaker 1: No, No keeping people from moving up. Was he preferring batteries now, you know? Was he not the right man for the moment to meet the captain?
Speaker 2: No? No, because we saw how many times in this terrible season he literally was dragging them to the finish to a win.
Speaker 1: Yeah, until Aosta remembered how to finish a play sometime around g I new free Marshawan was the only one, right, Yeah, he was the leading sport was and in our pause we were saying he's the only guy carrying the team. And then Fosta starts scoring. Where did she know it? Picky moves to Pasta's line yep, and then suddenly, oh, how much how much longer do we have of Marshawn's good years? Should be continue to pay three million dollars while Martian's making well, while Macavoy is making a weapon, and you know Pasta was making what nine times making ten and change or whatever?
Speaker 1: Uh, we blew it. We absolutely blew it. Marsham's perfectly flying captain. Yeah, I'm one percent satisfied with everything he did on the Bruins. The only thing that happened was that they didn't build it. You didn't have enough left to The young guys were people that that were used to adversity or complete through it or do whatever. I what's kind of like, right, So I always like to compare a team to like the office.
Speaker 9: So I'm now hearing you talk about this kind of makes me wondering if the situation was like if you've ever worked for a stretch of time in a job that was really toxic.
Speaker 1: And with slowly like eating your soul.
Speaker 2: And you are still putting out, you know, high quality work because you've got a really good at work ethic.
Speaker 1: And you believe in it. And there are individuals that you work with on a regular basis that you still really enjoy working.
Speaker 2: With and like they make you know, the day okay, but you've got, you know, all this other toxic.
Speaker 1: Shit that you're dealing with. It kind of takes away your sparkle. And I think that maybe that's what had happened to him.
Speaker 2: And he got a new job and the workplace is amazing and it's eighty degrees in sunny every day.
Speaker 1: Nobody knows who.
Speaker 2: He is.
Speaker 1: Time.
Speaker 2: I know he's having fun at work again, and that's an incredible high when you experience. Now that's something that like a lot of people can that can like that could resonate with And that explains.
Speaker 1: A lot, I would agree. And the biggest example of that is Marshdown's point totals in this postseason. Because of that goal, he might still be leading the Panthers in points from the third fucking line in postseason. Yeah, Jesus, Yeah, I mean I think I think if you could, if you looked up the stats, yeah, because they're making a big deal that during the Carolina season for a series that he was leading the Panthers at one point during this point season in points. That's why I'd find you could say it's you can say it's pressures off, but you're probably one percent sure.
Speaker 1: I mean that there proved but the thing once and this is where it really came down to it. If he had his choice, he wouldn't have left. No, I don't think she wanted to leave.
Speaker 2: I think she saw the writing on the wall and decided to take ownership of his story and his experience, and she wanted a chance.
Speaker 1: For the pack. We got a Donnie rostart and I can't put this is the harder. But there's a little bit the dust up in front of the Loullie Bob, Yeah, Sam Bennett in the middle of it. It's gonna that was actually straptic right under the right Yeah yeah, uh yeah. I mean, I'm I'm aligned with you one hundred percent with what you're saying. My main deal with this whole thing, it's that uh much like and and you've heard me to use this analogy before. It's like, this is when you break up with your girlfriend thinking that it's this is as good as it could be.
Speaker 1: Yeah, and she immediately starts dating other people. Speaking from experience, I'm just saying like, if you're you're watching a romantic comedy, this is the moment where you go, oh no, oh she did a glow up and she's never been happier. Yeah, and I still suck. It was the problem. Yep. He just went off and got married. You did, and you know what, and unlike Gray Book happy, unlike Ray Borok, I'm not going to be in the in the stands going I'm just so glad you happy. You're not you could have, don't.
Speaker 1: I mean, everybody with pork was like, oh, I'm just so happy. I don't know. Oh I didn't help with me. Just serves to be happy. I saw him give an interview. Did you see this recently? Did they called him? And he's like, I'm not gonna does a slap in the face to yeah unless they sign off on.
Speaker 2: I thought that was really respectful because I think, yeah, and I think you know, there are similarities between his situation and Markham's situation, but they're not identical. Okay, they're not identical. I'm sure there was to some degree, for pork. You know, I think he's what the longest serving captain. He was there for well twenty two years, not twenty two years, he was there for twenty one years.
Speaker 1: And as far as I understand the situation.
Speaker 2: Uh, she almost wrote the the post twenty twenty five fifty to the Panthers.
Speaker 1: Well that's Ray Marshall.
Speaker 2: You know, I think that was an amicable trade to give him that opportunity.
Speaker 1: I don't know if he had to say and where he was gonna go yep.
Speaker 2: But.
Speaker 1: I want him to win. I want Marshall. I'm not rooting for Florida.
Speaker 2: I'm rooting for Brad because he should have had his name on the Cup in twenty nineteen.
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I wish no billain Man. This is entirely a fault of the being and not recognizing what they had, not realizing the soh. I hope that he was not the problem with.
Speaker 2: I hope that Camny is doing in his deuces watching this postseason being like hmmm, yeah, I.
Speaker 1: Mean again, and I don't even really hanging around, Neely said, I don't. I think it was a full a full team collapse. I don't fault the people that didn't that don't have the goods yet, like Low where I was young, there are a lot of young people that are been very and there were a lot of new guys.
Speaker 2: Even though there were veterans, there were new guys like you don't like Sidorov said. He admitted he's like, look, I'm I'm a veteran, but I didn't feel like I had the rights too not to speak up, but to you know, take that leadership role because he was new.
Speaker 1: Like it's just like again in a company and you're new. You know, you may have leadership qualities.
Speaker 2: But you're not just going to walk in and be like, I'm gonna tell you all how to do things here. Even though I started last week, nobody are It's interesting.
Speaker 1: But because I going back to you guys, uh you spoke with Mo and talking about the defensive stuff kind of started to figure it out. But I I will tell you, I'm not really interested into the Sidorov's take on his with the leaders that like granted your new on the team, Yeah all right, maybe you need to play well, try to figure it out. You think you're there at a very specific role. You're basically there for the postseason. But like him ending up in the box as often as he did, and then saying that at the end of the season.
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like he's like a guy coming in being like, I know, I'm new at this company and I'm trying to keep my trying to keep my head down, so I'm gonna I don't exactly, it's like, well, maybe you want to stop tripping on that that fucking plug and on plugging the entire server three times a day. Start with that. You don't need to pop up, pop your head up in meetings, and we end lean in on on on the direction of the mission statement of this company. I'm miss asking you and not unplug the server every day time exactly.
Speaker 1: That might switches a sign that says do not turn off, and you turn it off two times a day. Stop doing that. But I'm so glad you're really thinking about what you might say in a company need. That's my take on siding off. Right now, that's sold on.
Speaker 2: We'll have to well, No, you were with us when we did our player review with him last August, right, you.
Speaker 3: And we were you there?
Speaker 1: No, you were you were undergrounds. Is there something wrong in the locker room? And why is it? That was my That was my statement in in like November.
Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, no, we.
Speaker 2: Uh we were doing our uh trade acquisition uh clear profile and we mentioned in one of them that, well, we're going to have to do another player profile review of last year's free agency acquisition one year out.
Speaker 1: Because I think that Dora has grown on me in a surprising way. I did a better place with him, Yeah yeah, because he figured out like everything most said about him was right around. He called him a lazy player, which is the hard criticism to level at any occup player, but he is. But he doesn't chase a play, and when he does, he chased it right out of position and exposes the goaltender. And it's back where I did like his game is when I would see him after the f one and simply just ride him into the corner away from the goalie.
Speaker 1: He's very good at that, and if that's all he did all season, I would be very adi. Yeah, well maybe and maybe that. I mean again, we're we're so we're so screwed. I mean, we're me again. Even started with the conversation about Mark Shawn and when and I use the right captain for the moment, like our our coaching staff outside of goalie Bop is just a wreck. The people drawing the plays, calling the plays, devising the strategies were never headed in the right direction for the entirety of this season, and so until we until we've got a new system in place, it is hard to really kind of evaluate any of these players on on their merriats, you know, I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 1: I mean, what was a great quote from Montgomery at the very beginning was that, like, I don't think you understand what we're trying to do here, and speaking about sidor Oh no, I don't remember that. Yeah, But at the same time you had a coach that was honestly out the door as well, So like where is the problem, right? You know which, again, the trade deadline comes like the people we dealt, you could make cases for all of this really comes down to, like I don't understand what the plan, but the scheme is at all anymore?
Speaker 1: You know, I think that a big I think it's been dropped in the lapse of Pastornach and McAvoy with the hope that it's going to figure that somebody's gonna figure something out. And I don't think that's what got you where you are now. Every time I see a clip of say Maurice, who's probably the most animated coach out there right now, but I remember when you found the one of him from two seasons ago. Yeah, in between period with like Kats getting down on the on the ground, It's like, maybe I feel like that's what this team needs.
Speaker 1: The team does not meet Paul Maurice. I'm not saying no, no, no, no no. Nobody needs Paul Maurice and Marie's household. It's arguable that does not meet Paul Maurice. But I think that that whatever coach comes next shouldn't be a hard ass like Katy and should not be a players coach like Monty. Yeah. I think it just needs to be a person that will pull the whole team out on masks. Did you do this? You do that this is the plan and convince them that they can succeed. Again, Yes they did, and there's nobody left in the room.
Speaker 1: You know, if Macca boys suddenly piped up and said, guys, this is call me to freedom, I don't know that it beneficssarily falls And it's very difficult for someone as gifted as Pasta to be like guys, just do what I do. You know, why did I score while sliding on my face? You know, which was the first half of the season. All of his goals came from like beautiful goal. Why is he you know, the sideways getting like away from the net and you know, calling on assass and doing whatever you can't folk he cannot carve a week.
Speaker 1: Yeah, that other people can very easily squat. And one of the reasons why I liked Marshaun so much as captain because he was a guy they didn't work twice it started to be taken after seriously. Yeah, and his entire career Yeah, and he followed through and yeah, and he never stop. Yeah. And if you're looking for any kind of example, is be the hardest working guy out there. Yes, That's why I knew from day one.
Speaker 2: I was like, he's the perfect person to be a captain because he's going to show people this is how are you have to work right to be on this team?
Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, and I I've heard the criticisms of oh well, at the very beginning, he was fevering playing with veterans over playing with someone like Hyceel and maybe he kept cell down too long or whatever. His job it's not. And also, who was the guy who was talking about was talking about Morgan geeking here? Oh by the way, I guess he was right, Yeah, because who what if Morgan geeky turned out to be at the end of this season, right right? Or something like Marsan who who had an entire career everything working his way from the fourth line, who needs to be seeing the questions level that someone like Babyan lives helping, like why is he need on this team?
Speaker 1: It's like, because you're asking the wrong guy. It's baby and Ysel why he's not on this team. It's not gonna get handed to you. Something is handed to you now your captain does not believe anything should be handed to you, So prove it right, right, And I don't think anybody in the And again you can make that. You can make the case that after the perfect season, right then meeting into your millennial season where for an entire year, I'm sorry, Centennial Millennium. Honestly, honestly, my problem is with Millennium.
Speaker 1: No exactly actually even remembers
Speaker 1: the centennial season where you had the Bruins greats parading in and out of your stadium every single day per year. Of course you're going to have like a honeymoon is over and hangover as you're trying to figure out where your identity is. But the solution to that is to work and not assume that those two seasons are are going to exemplify your entire career. Asked Tyler Sagan, what it's been like. Yeah, you know, he's barely gotten the sniff of another cup and he was the golden child of twenty eleven.
Speaker 1: Thanks for coming to my ted talk. What are you talking about? Oilers? So the period's over, period's been over, The game has been over three hours. Bartender is act really like flicking the lights? That's not true. It's past nine shots on goal fifteen to five, which I will say, but in favor of Edmonton.
Speaker 2: And I got to tell you watching the Panthers this postseason, that's a tell that they might not win.
Speaker 1: Oh okay, explore that. Yeah, if they're not aheading shots in the first period, you feel like they're not coming to play.
Speaker 2: I don't know that it's necessarily the first period, but in general, I've noticed so I think I said this on a recent a recent podcast episode where so we've been talking again about the trade deadline acquisitions and like our favorite stats that we immediately go to for like quick understanding of a situation and so like Fourria's favorite is plus minus right. For my favorite, like real quick is in game scots on goal. Okay, if I know the team well enough, I can tell that.
Speaker 1: Will often tell me, okay, what's that? What's the situation? Right?
Speaker 2: I guess I know it's not the end all be all, but for me it's my quick like temperature deals.
Speaker 1: And I've noticed with Florida all the games that day have won, they obliterate.
Speaker 2: The opposing team in shots okay, and they're actually being out shot kind of by.
Speaker 1: Like a lot, I think fifteen to five. So that's it. Yeah, yeah, you know I'd beinon as three.
Speaker 2: Times as many shots on goal. I mean, Bob is great, but again, as we talked earlier, Bob is he's about he's the most beatable great goalie out there. I think you thinking about all the great goaltenders that are in the league right now.
Speaker 1: So otter Hella bucks the stirkin. Yeah, he's the one I.
Speaker 2: Would get is the most beat took, like without considering the players in front of them.
Speaker 1: Okay, so that makes me a little bit worried, like ten.
Speaker 2: Does Florida have the ability to help him defensively well enough tonight? They have not historically, but those have all happened in well. No, the Tampa at Temple Toronto games, they lost the first two and they were out shot. They lost that one at home and they were out shot and had to go back to Toronto.
Speaker 1: Same thing in Carolina.
Speaker 2: So it looks like, uh, Florida has the momentum, but it's only the first period. Yeah, so they're gonna have to They're gonna have to up their shots for me to feel like they could.
Speaker 1: But again, there's still forty minutes ago. No, but I think there's something to what you're saying here. I'm gonna get tired. Yeah, those are the stopped he said. He's think like he's stopping. Yeah. How many shots is he like? Shot attempts? Because you have to be in the position, you have to be ready for a shot attempt. It's not like it's necessarily easier. I would I would say that to your point board. His game is essentially a lot of shots chaos in front of the day. Yeah, and his mother in the shot total would not indicate that that they're on their game.
Speaker 1: They have been, they're getting lot they've been getting quality chances. Yeah, those come when they come, but you can't depend on them. Although would you say that based on the shot count right now, Uh, Bob is hot? I think Bob is all right.
Speaker 2: Based on that different significant difference in shots, I think she's lunch and so maybe it's a again a hockey Gods situation because the Martian goal.
Speaker 1: I mean, he had an open net effectively. I also don't think that Skinner is a good goaltender. Don't like I don't like Chef.
Speaker 2: He's an NFL goaltender and he's had some pretty incredible games.
Speaker 1: Why are there so many young people here? Like, it's Wednesday, It's Wednesday, Wednesday, and all many folks come on down to be days. You're here with the youths exactly. So yeah, man, eventful first period? Yes, uh, I keep one more Skinner Skinners having Like, yeah, it makes sense he's having a skinner game.
Speaker 2: I feel like, so maybe the this will be an anomaly game where Florida.
Speaker 1: Has less fewer shots at goal. I mean, so the entire discussion about whether or not Bob is a hoh goalie or not. And if you'll apply that to Skinner more like a question it or not. Skinner is just gonna play. Okay, yeah, he actually gonna and it's was it not? Because right now it's three goals off eight shots. That that that's not good, bad, very most of those have been I don't know. It was pretty well screened on the Bennett one and uh marshaan wid what was this one? I even asked, but this one the borders it all alone?
Speaker 1: Well then that's on the defenseman. Oh my god, look at that? All right? Edmonton players falling into each other again, falling down. It's like a hole an ice full of pop for Notts right now. Oh god, everyone's just falling over instead of shooting. Edton seems to be playing like the whoa that he he? Wow? That one right up? All right? Edmnton just scored it about three to two. Two scored. But that guy, I have no idea. I'm not eat it up.
Speaker 2: That was.
Speaker 1: But they're kind of playing like the uh inexperience tonight.
Speaker 2: I think otherwise they've Edmondson's made a lot of really billy mistakes.
Speaker 1: I don't think I did an what anybody? Oh elbow did it and then did it trickle in? Let's do the I got an environment. Oh bad luck. That's a game book, it's a game now. Yeah, my dad says Bennett Stuck just went up third in. I don't like that, guy, No, I don't like it. Do you think you should say that? Phone me? Un positive? But I will ask you the question. You can think about it. A great episode of the fact that Abram was eating his dinner inches from alive, Mike h Bennett doesn't knock Sto wars out what happens.
Speaker 1: M still goes to seven games by tong Lan. We'll never know, We'll never know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know either Stars was good.
Speaker 10: But I do think that, like yes, said a thousand times, goaltending wins cups, goaltending isn't the only thing, like yes, you have to have that can be the difference maker.
Speaker 2: And there's whatever is wrong with Toronto is it's at the core. And until they fixed that that you're not gonna you're not gonna see.
Speaker 1: Them go anywhere. I mean, I think the thing that I was hearing a lot of criticists of Toronto that there are team of individuals that that doesn't punct it as a team.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker 2: I mean that's kind of like our point about that culture where those teams where if that's what they are, they might only win one cup.
Speaker 1: Yeah right, Like that's what I see, And I don't know. But then again, I don't watch West Coast Hockey, so I don't watch enough for bounce. I would agree. I think Edmonton's got maybe one cup at them.
Speaker 2: Right, And granted in regular season, I only see Florida play four time, yeah right, and I see Edmonton play two times.
Speaker 1: But I know what kind of team Florida is. Yeah, I know. So I don't know. Maybe I don't know. Maybe I'm not wrong about it, but I would to think that I can pick up on a team on the kind of team they are fairly quick. I mean, my thing about god, I can't even talk about Florida this question promise like you lose a couple of people on Florida. Yeah, Florida still say it's Florida. Yeah, maybe without could talk, maybe without Bennett. It's to do a different feast. But her culture comes in, yeah, and it's so boring.
Speaker 1: But I think I mean what we made me raised, I raised the ship of THESEUS argument, yes, earlier with Boston, that too many pieces are pulled out. It's not the same thing anymore. Yeah, Florda's not there yet, but I know there are only two use your feet large components on adventure. Yeah, and if you lose them, he was one of them, right, probably the whole thing falls apart. Well, they've and they built around those two guys, and they did for a couple of.
Speaker 2: Games a little stretch at one point this year where both of them were out.
Speaker 1: The team wasn't doing great Bice, Oh how was that not? I sing, Oh my god? Oh the game has picked up speed, Yes, let speed, which it's a point bit dead air because there's a lot of back and forth going on right now. Yeah, thirteen minutes left from the second or to someth three to two, and they aren't catching up with their shots on goal.
Speaker 2: I will say, Edmonton, it is twelve minutes left and they only scored only shot once on goal and Florida has doubled.
Speaker 1: So that's huge.
Speaker 2: Yep. I will say, you know, watching some of those other games where Florida completely obliterated the opponent, primarily that happened.
Speaker 1: I think if Carolina, Like, yeah, those were boring.
Speaker 2: I mean they certainly would be fun if it was you know, my team were like, yeah, I love this, but it can get boring and I do much more so enjoy and appreciate a game like this where it's two very good team that's actually battling it out.
Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, definite makes the sport the superior. Uh the West? For you? What was the best series? Feels like saw during this post? Mm hm, who watched a lot of hockey this? Yeah, that's hard to remember. I mean the first round is always out the top tier in my mind. Yeah, that's gonna be your best hockey.
Speaker 5: Uh.
Speaker 1: And I think I've watched quite a few, even of the Western ones, although not like this California series.
Speaker 2: I liked the Dallas Uh if they played first they know, or who played Saint Louisa when.
Speaker 1: That was a good series I watched?
Speaker 3: That was that was good?
Speaker 1: Yep, that was that's where they played first round? That was good.
Speaker 2: I think I really enjoyed, Uh, the Ottawa series. They did a great job. The what's his name, the hockey guy? He made an excellent point that if Ottawa had won a six, they.
Speaker 1: Would have won the series. And I think, yes, I agree, that was a good one.
Speaker 2: And then of course watching Toronto lose to Brad mart and I know, how could I not take that as number one? This is a good I mean, granted, we're it's ten minutes into the secondary, okay, one and I'm already pretty pleased.
Speaker 3: And I can't hear it.
Speaker 1: I trusts.
Speaker 2: Uh.
Speaker 1: We were watching a hockey game. We're not sitting on the side of the highways. Make it the stuff up as we go. Yeah, I can do that. I just know, sweet people wait for the highway forbid. I really liked the Dallas Winnipeg saves.
Speaker 2: Uh.
Speaker 1: The further we got into that, parts of that last game were, O, well that was Dallas probably that was wild the best game. Yeah, I saw, that's right.
Speaker 2: That one did go to seven because I forgot that Ben Edmonton feet uh, Dallas in five games and that was disappointed son six? Was it was it over time in six Dallas nurse Twinnipeg or was that SEVEI No, I think that was seven games and that was and that they'd go to over timer.
Speaker 1: No, Yeah, that was a wild, wild game. Yeah. Uh so for betting that one takes it? Yeah, well, I mean, there's a soft spot in my part because eventually Canada beats to one another cup they will let's say they have to, but they will. Well, they're gonna happen. It's gonna happen, just like don'yr it's well gonna die and can but alto I room for Winnipeg because it's the smallest Canadian bark hip and really, yeah, it's so small, and so I do think that it would actually be hilarious when like the smallest Canadian market is the one that actually find me went to Cuff and the rest of the could bees like, I mean, well, and I like the white out.
Speaker 1: That's kind of cool. It sucks that they can't, you know, Ella Buck needs to deal with his gifts, like his demon, my weird dear for gold.
Speaker 2: And then what made it was so disappointing for me about Dallas' conference series is then like the same damn thing happened to Otter, and I love Otter.
Speaker 1: He is practic that it's in the gifts of the outside. Well that was he was done dirty the way.
Speaker 2: That it was done outside of Boston, and with the retirement of Marc Andre Fleury, uh Otter is my next favorite full tender.
Speaker 1: I really like him a lot.
Speaker 2: Uh, He's got a little bit more personality and I just like, I like how he plays, and I've seen him do some pretty phenomenal things. So I don't know, I just kind of like am gravitated for it. I gravitate to him, Like, yeah, I wrote that mant.
Speaker 1: Calla buck I think is a little too theoria.
Speaker 11: I don't know, Yeah, I mean I think for someone who is as good as he is, uh tell yeah, perform. I don't know who it was that uh said it.
Speaker 1: Somebody on another pod callibuck in the postseason is what Boston fans think grasp was Yeah, And I wish I remember who said it. Wasn't me not taking credit for it, but that was a comment that I heard that maybe like put my coffee bug down as I was about to take a sip. It was like, yeah, yeah, that's that's yeah, it shouldn't be that way.
Speaker 2: And yet now I wonder who's gonna get that treatment now that like everybody has gone, who are they gonna picky?
Speaker 1: What the fans?
Speaker 2: Who are they gonna pick to just like you know, dump on like it was mac Chrislick and shake the brass.
Speaker 1: It was too crul like, who are they gonna give the Chris to figure out?
Speaker 2: Right? Right? Like they arguably will be like we'll see he's terrible because it makes one mistake, but at actuality he's really he's very good.
Speaker 1: Who was after Frederick? And I don't remember what he said? Uh now because replacement? Have you seen Freddie? I mean maybe he's probably out there. What's the number?
Speaker 2: Now?
Speaker 1: That's the thing. This goes right back to what he said at the very beginning. Good callback don't think about him right and I'm watching a bunch of blue shirts out there. I don't feel him. Now, why would you?
Speaker 2: He's someone like objectively tank yeah, like statistically, I mean in everything that I was looking at.
Speaker 1: I don't know if you saw this.
Speaker 2: In the discord, but at the end of the year, I like to do my player usage that so I run all the data through the bottle that I built, and it looks at the average time on ice and how they rank compared to other players on their team and other players not on their team based on if they're forward or defenseman and against other forwards and defenseman.
Speaker 1: And he was terrible, like he dropped off big time. In the last year. I was like, yeah, so he was never scratched, but then he was also not being used. Proved the point. But why we were all so pissed off, Like then, why is he resting for a game? Why is he sitting on that bench?
Speaker 2: Why is management again, to go back to your point, why is management not putting Providence players in instead? Because then if you are going to play a Providence player as much as you were playing him at least, then you're giving.
Speaker 1: This young guy experience sitting there on the bench with veterans and whatnot. I will ever really know why Frederick was given a pass when other people for crying out a loud.
Speaker 3: Speeky was bench.
Speaker 2: And even if you want to say like, oh he deserved it, sure, okay, and then he came back and he was a better player, So why then wouldn't you do the same thing to Frederick in the hopes that he would make him a better player.
Speaker 1: I don't get it. I don't I will always remember what the behind the beat? Where was it? Esposito was like watching a game from the box and point out like a Freddy fight and was like, pretty would have done well with us, you know, And I was like that, that's the guy you choose, like you want to take. You would have won more Cups if I could choose one guy from this squad right now at the back with us and guys friend Frederick, not Pasta, not even march On got during the lunch era, although that.
Speaker 12: Is his career would be over with now, yeah, because he would have had to retire.
Speaker 1: But I there's a part of me. I mean, and again I don't I don't go with the conspiracies or whatever, but like there just seemed to be this this thing where management maybe film from the top down, you're gonna force Breddy to be the player we wanted to be. Yeah, and any moment we get hey, yes, bo, you want to say something cool about Freddie while we roll on this for trying to make fetch happen. Yeah, can't make you can't make fred happen. I can't.
Speaker 2: I would like to point out that the shots one Bowl seventeen.
Speaker 1: There gonna win this game? Do you think they are? They're gonna have this game? They're gone back, they are there because.
Speaker 2: Edmonton has had two shots on goals right in seventeen minutes, sixteen minutes.
Speaker 1: That's not good. No, no, it's not. This is a disaster of a second period for Edmonton. I will say that if Edmonton makes it out of this period, yeah, it's anybody's game. I don't think Florida was prepared for the first I don't think Edmonton was prepared for the second. And if they go out of this period. But two minutes left, shots at seventeen, tied to two. So you're telling me, whoever scores the next goal, it's gonna win. I what I'm telling you is that whoever scores more goals the third period is gonna win this well, due
Speaker 1: channeling my John Madden listen, ever puts the punk in to the dead four times in the third period, we look like you're gonna win this game. Carolinian, Oh, I mean it boils down to the fact that, like I can't escape from the fact that, like I, I don't necessarily want a Panther's dynasty to be at things.
Speaker 2: But it already is at the end of the day. No, but it is to some degree. Three three troops to the Cup Final.
Speaker 1: He didn't But okay, yes, they left their mark. Okay, that's a legacy. I guess I would say that there's a legacy there, Yes, you know, uh, I mean I for for what Detroit did in the nineties, right, But if they I's the only one one of those times he wouldn't talk about the McDonald. I don't want to be old and gray and adulging that the Panthers did they still like I'm picking down the road. I also think that for for whatever it is, Connomic David should have a mean for Fox's sake, Jack Eichel as a cup, Jack Eichel as a cup, and CONNOMICC David doesn't.
Speaker 1: I'm gonna say that again for for anybody who's still listening to build Jack Eichel, who looks like one of ned Flanders kids fully grown, he does, Oh my god, I'll never unsee that. Yeah, uh, i's a snave on the Stanley cups and Conor McDavid doesn't. You will. But how old is uh? Trouble here? You have to check on your phone, check my phone. I think I will find us. I mean, I have no rational I have no rational way to back up anything I feeling right now and called the series, I'm gonna say existential dread it SIPs if my calling up, I don't, I don't even know.
Speaker 1: I just I think we're going to be tortured because the gods let laugh at us. I don't want to live the rest of the next couple of years wondering Brad Barshan goes into the hall as a panther, and if he starts winning cups with them, he may How does that work? I think you get to choose what jersey you were if you go into the hall. Folks, listeners are still here. I'm being extremely selfish and quite irrational here I've been. I've been confused since hegral. Anybody who's to talk to me, Vince then see me on the seal as done.
Speaker 1: I'm not the same man. I don't know what I need to do again. Nothing makes sense anymore. Well, I just learned today that Mikola's first name is Nicola, not not no Miko, not Miko. Was honestly, I thought you said the same thing twice. No, I did say, guys, his name is Ico, Noto. It's crazy.
Speaker 13: I just the name is Nico with an N, not Nico with an M. I thought it was Miko Mikola. All right, all right, that's how much I pay attention.
Speaker 1: So we're all learning things tonight. All right, how old is he's eight? He got, he's got, He's got at least a decade, you know, but he's here now. No, I don't know. I got mean, I got, Yeah, I guess, I got. I guess when it comes back, Dad, I guys, I'll skin in this game. I yeah.
Speaker 2: Well, it's like in the first like the first round is the best round and the fourth round is the second best round.
Speaker 1: Because especially in a season in the year when you don't have a team in the running.
Speaker 2: Watching the first round was the most enjoyable. Yeah, first round of hockey that I have.
Speaker 1: Experienced in over a decade. You know what, it wasn't stressed if the Bruins weren't in it. I could bounce from game to day.
Speaker 2: I could stop watching and not feel like I couldn't you know what I'm saying, Right, I wasn't depressed after a first round. Yeah, that perfect season is the first time in my entire life where I was depressed for.
Speaker 1: A couple of days after watching a hockey game. Yeah, I mean, this is how naive I was at that point in time, because in my brain, that was the first season in a long tun right, actually was able to watch it almost every single game that season, and they did what they did. And that was also the year that my daughter discovered the game. And I remember, even though we lost, I was like, in my brain as that season ended, I was still like, I think, what a great time for her to start watching this. I don't think we're ever going to be bad again.
Speaker 1: And then so I don't know that I was absolutely heartbroken, yeah, at the end of that season, because I was like, look what we just you know, in the playoffs of the playoffs that anything can happen, and I don't know, And I think that the hangover continued to the Centennial season, even though we did make get out of the first and that one, still like what a season that was, like just so many crazy things to see, you know, Yeah, but now here we are now and everything horrible and
Speaker 1: and I'm emotionally dead inside. So that's that's where I'm at.
Speaker 2: You know, they're gonna pull Skinner, And clearly based on how the second period has gone for that and for this this period, the third period has started to build.
Speaker 1: For that, Yeah, the defense is just not there anymore.
Speaker 2: Like since the end of the first period they have we gotten one five, seven, more chats on goal, so they're not moving in the direction that they need to be moving it still and the fact that Florida has gotten twenty more sat Yeah, and there is no sustained pressure and admitted offensive zone. Now this is a lot of in and out and yeah, looking very familiar to me.
Speaker 1: Yes. Uh, the once they pull skinner, I mean they're gonna be cooked. You're basically it's something the third deck. They should just pull it down. Yeah, right, just end it. Yeah, and you know what, I also, that is amazing one Infanton player. It's across the blue line. Four panthers on the check him at the same time. Yeah, and it's back out of the back, out of the out of the head, back out of it admits it's uh, it's nice. That was that's Florida hockey fort Oh oh oh whoa, oh all right, I okay. They did say whoever scored the next goal is probably gonna win.
Speaker 1: Okay, don't like this. It's been a game four shots. Yep, it's been weirdly lopsided. Uh, that was buddy, this was built wether. I don't know if you can say it's lucky. Caroline, you and I both saw this you called it two seconds before it happened. That wasn't a fluke, that was a that was a breakdown. Yeah, and the guy was very needed to be very good.
Speaker 2: Well up side ye again, same as their previous cool look strapped kicking them out of the circle.
Speaker 1: You live, okay, Yeah, I don't care for that. Hey, look there's the burge round guy. So is he there for Brad?
Speaker 3: Or is there?
Speaker 1: I don't know what's it there for you. No one is going to show up and root for trench record. Run stop talking. I just stop that sentence. Yeah I did not. Maybe Adrian won't pick up on that. I'm gonna wat that slide. I'm not finding that slide that it is Patrice And he's like, Brad hies me, oh my god, Yeah, I've been been. Definitely looks like they're working harder. It's great. Well yeah that kind of gave him some light. Yeah. Every every ten minutes I dripped back into wistfully talking about Brad Marshall and was like, no, you sound pathetic.
Speaker 1: Let's picture we get this on air. So my main thing is the way in the circumstances under under all right, let me let me pay this out five years from now he's retired, he comes back to the fold. I'm fine, Ultimately, it's fine mine, I mean mine do right. Yeah. My main thing is if he decides that it was bad enough that he's like, I'm good, don't need to come back, right. My main thing is, like you will get who it was those who we accent the centennial thing. Thornton wasn't there, right, and so for everything he meant to the franchise, if he's not, you know, guest appearing on Nessen and hanging out with the rest of the boys over this, that is a loss that extends beyond saying that it's a business and you got to think about the picture.
Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, there is there's unrealized value and a personality like him.
Speaker 2: Before they did it, I said they would be insane to do it because the long damp.
Speaker 1: Amptimes I mean, you sound like very long rant work before.
Speaker 2: He was treated away young enough that he also had a highed career in San Jose. How many years was he there versus in Boston.
Speaker 1: Oh, you're right, right, and yeah, that's that's a very purer point. But they were bringing everybody like they brought so many people back and you know that that was my that was my thing.
Speaker 5: I was like I.
Speaker 1: Was, and it's get at and then it's to go. Then it's to go.
Speaker 2: So believe they'll be pulling skater Eddy bolberga well not anymore. Un last Florida can get one dagger. It bends on how tired Bob, and he's pretty busy early on. So the first game's gotta be one of the most difficult. Didn't get ready for and release start because of.
Speaker 1: All the oh are you here to mourn with us?
Speaker 5: There?
Speaker 2: We are.
Speaker 1: Here for bread, Yeah, here for bread. Yeah, okay, you're here for Brad. You know what so much to me last night he said, I'm just getting into hockey. I like, that's what of Panthers I think?
Speaker 2: And I was like, oh why he said, I really like Brad Marshaun and I was like, stabby in the heart.
Speaker 1: I don't know, man, We're here for Brad. Uh huh that form the Anthers. We're here earlier. Yeah, we've been here at all time. Go cheered together.
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, to get that super late to my jersey and they're like, yeah, turn up, we're gonna said to some of these lame I got two others sad, bruits bad, don't just go into overtime sit it in a half minutes.
Speaker 1: I'm losing faith. So you know what's interesting, because I heard you guys talking earlier about you guys being happy that ton that these broadcasts, I will say my respect for peaking super bo that's going some Yeah, it was. I always found these when it seem the gimmicky at the very start of it. But the more of the reposts of hymns UH preparing the hockey greats NPA greats in the grades, and if UH continued, Willing missed it back that claim ups with facts. Uh maybe realized that he actually has a lot of intelligent things to say.
Speaker 1: That was close. I think he has a lot of great Now it's gonna get tippy, just uh, I don't have to he can look bad into his reticket in the shops.
Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know this the last commercial break well back, why oh this is that weird commercial? It's this guy There was a oh yeah, you didn't see your behind in the discord. There was the whole thing with this guy walking around a cup at that and he saw like a post it now and he's like, why is this say, Paul business Net.
Speaker 1: And then the joke in the discord was, I mean, but we don't know who you are. So I like the announcers better on TNT, like lay by play game can't be better. Uh, some of the panel is very good, like and that summer terrible, Like Retzki is terrible. He's about as exciting as past. Yeah, he's good. Who's that other guy that I asked about? Ian got his name? And then obviously Hay, I love thanks the bust. He's definitely picking up here. It's not really a slowed down I don't. I mean, it's like more space.
Speaker 1: I am reacting to edmund usibility. Yeah, they really took over. Yeah, and or it. It's giving a bit of rule for them to try to make some of these tricky passes with well that was a good say. Yeah, I mean you have the room to try and make some a little bit of flashy places. But they're also uh not giving up on possession. Yeah, they are able to battle the puck back from Florida. Yeah, which is encouraging well for them to getting higher, right, aren't They're the they're the old man team right now.
Speaker 2: Freedman was going on about how this particular taint like in the context that it was because they were older.
Speaker 1: They really, I mean heavily got sleep science. They got like a sleep doctor. Really, so they.
Speaker 2: Have opted for I think the last couple of seasons that when they're on the road, if you know a lot of teams will leave right away, like it's o'clock at night, they more often than not opt to stay and sleep there.
Speaker 1: Everybody gets better sleep and then travel the next day.
Speaker 2: And that's what they did. They traveled at the last possible minute to go up to Edmonton. Interesting, Yeah, I did it last year too. Everybody's a year older.
Speaker 1: I would say that makes sense because that often performance is baked into everybody's analysis of the team when they travel brick all this season won't be like, oh, well they get out till three in the morning and then prob so if that's part of your yeah, that's part of your h you know, pre dame analysis that people likely h to perform because they didn't get oh oh my goodness, wow, that was good stay for the few minutes both sides.
Speaker 14: Yeah, although I did think at this point in the season it's going over.
Speaker 1: Everybody.
Speaker 2: Everybody is at their keep performance level. Like this is the max and I get doing that kind of stuff, you know, during the regular season because of what you're doing that entire season is building your endurance and convintion to get this point so that way you can actually keep going, Oh my god, I'm gonna go to overtime.
Speaker 2: I would love to see those Uh did you read those fake tools for if hockey goes into six overtimes?
Speaker 1: Man, you've got to catch up. I know, I know, I do.
Speaker 2: I have to.
Speaker 15: So someone had posted like, oh, if I can't goes into six overtimes, then they have fifteen players on each side on the ice for the whole the rest of the game.
Speaker 1: And then someone was like, well, and then in the fifth overtime that's when they introduced two bucks. It's gonna be a heartbreak again. Regardless, I think now, I really do think that prediction was gonna be right. I was predicting because you've had a couple of well, no, I mean Johnson goal first, follow the shots on goal? What happened there? I said, I less, they turn it around and the next team to score, it's gonna win. I had been to the scored that goal, So.
Speaker 2: Wow, what if Florida doing Holy moly, they are chasing their tail.
Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely seems like I had been taking roll and play last few minutes, and.
Speaker 1: For it it didn't seem to be. What's more, you screaming about let it go out of play. That's what they're saying. It is out of play. But it was it touched, which I thought that they did introduce the rule that that's reviewable to what that they played the puck after it went out of play. I don't know what's the group say. The place should have been whistled dead, wasn't it the timing? And so there should be a face off in that zone as opposed toulfare But I'm just now, I'm just talking because I don't know what nice one.
Speaker 1: I don't even know if there let's see what happened. I played hockey.
Speaker 12: Yeah, right, Edmonton's motivated to the score because they don't want to get yelled at by Connor David again, so embarrassing because it was maybe by no play has already.
Speaker 1: Gone on and stops because it's like eighteen seconds. Oh TV, baby, there's terrible. I bread out of material like forty five minutes ago. Oh my god, they are coming out hot. Oh my god, I don't know.
Speaker 2: If this were Boston, then that means it was gonna go in the other direction and they would loose.
Speaker 1: Wait is that not what everyone experienced? I think dry ste out there, not a hold. They're not gonna call anything. They better not call anything.
Speaker 3: Come up.
Speaker 1: Already, it's tense over time. Come on, get back on side. Boy.
Speaker 1: How many shots on gold at Edmonton? How they had thirty five going into it?
Speaker 2: Right?
Speaker 1: Yeah?
Speaker 5: I think japan Pas had like five shots and the other times the party thing, yeah, definitely been They've been coming out hard, but they've they've been just sort of throwing it at the deck.
Speaker 1: I don't get. I don't have a sense that had been running around on their own zone at all. So I think there's just been oh my god, it's been this. This name's nearly ended like ten times. Wow. Wow, I'll get that most post season over time, grand marsham mccoor. You could tie it if you get this one.
Speaker 3: Yeah, right.
Speaker 1: The another reason not to trade him, I'm gonna be I've been in stoppable achieving. I hadn't processed anything right, So I'm like things happened that I turned the TV off and I went away and I didn't come back. It's kind of neatly folded by Turkey. Put it away the time for child is thing exactly. Oh my god, Oh my god, boy, all he's still standing.
Speaker 2: Oh there's not a lot of fu Yeah, there's not a lot of protection.
Speaker 1: Why would you see? This is this is West.
Speaker 2: People don't like Floria. I mean that was unnecessary. The effectivements of their game blocky standpoying. But yeah, it's absolute cheap shots. We have part of it, right, I can't. I don't know whether not they'd be as effective if they didn't do that.
Speaker 1: Right.
Speaker 2: Well, it's like the idea that well, of course they do it, because if they're all doing it, what are they gonna throw the whole team?
Speaker 1: Nelly? Look what's the exception.
Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be a lucky mount. Oh but I think it's starting to get tired.
Speaker 1: Yeah, well yeah, but they're so now they team is both teams seemed to be very kiddy, Yeah, getting old. No one's running around a lot, no one's playing with the group, sloppy. Everyone is going very hard.
Speaker 2: Oh but.
Speaker 1: This now just now has the feeling now to getting in Florida forty to twenty nine.
Speaker 14: They had they've taken stopped from sport stop. It seems like this is gonna be part of stay to get exactly how you're seeing someone for you to twenty nine and you get it, get a found from the sunlight.
Speaker 1: Right, it's both the way and but that I feel like it now. Yeah, I've been to them really taking it to them in a hard way. Uh back check. It's kind of not existing at this point. Really. I think they're gas yeah, all down to the goalie. Wow. Oh but love of God, can you please end? And there their game is so physical that, uh, you can't stay the you know, no long time.
Speaker 2: I also wonder like how the coach manages someone like Connor McDavid berry because like you don't want to underutilize him because you don't know how long the period is obviously going to be, so do you play him like it's power play and I'm out there as much as possible, but he's risky completely Literating's.
Speaker 1: David one of the players that is sort of like when he goes, he goes, like when when he decides when he's going to go, like the way you know pork used to be, where it's just like, yeah, let that that people and they just let him go.
Speaker 2: No, I think uh, I think there's a lot more tension. Thing went like when they do that, it is unbelievable. Yeah, and this is that I'm actually dressed with Edmonton right now. They are They're not given forward any space. They're not waiting to see what word is going to do and then try to grade to it. Uh, panther gets possession. Somebody just starts chipping out and it's working. They're stripping the buck off the Panthers quite a bit. Yeah, so kudos to them.
Speaker 1: They live there three left, Ah, what is gonna happen that something? But see, yeah, like an eternity ago, I think so. I think he's lived on the end of the proud last year, the end of the first period. Yeah, you had suggested that Blorida didn't have it because that their shots are very low, they're not coming out hard mm hmm. I feel as other effort just stood a fairly good effort by the Panthers. Edmonton had a larger effort. I I don't know that Florida has underperformed in this game, but I feel like Edmonton has exceeded extrications.
Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know how you feel about that.
Speaker 2: You're fair but not I'm not right away, I'd say they exceeded expectations by.
Speaker 1: Holding the third period and having a fledge like the data. And I don't think that.
Speaker 2: Anyone would have really expected that, especially to come from someone not named Pick David or dry title.
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, got pick with the blue.
Speaker 3: Line right title for the win.
Speaker 1: And when I say the next bowl next the team that's the next.
Speaker 3: Goal win.
Speaker 2: In the third perios the next team the score was gonna win it.
Speaker 1: You could you just say that you were you were? You felt epic didn't have this game in the first period and proven right, I know my hockeys. You want to know my hockey. No, actually I think we know the hockey. C love Cleve Pop's got a glove problem. After they be so who who had dry title and left them barkop cop right, there's there were too many people hards. So they were being both very aggressive up up high, which.
Speaker 2: Was funny because when they started the p K they were very tight, like they were doing the box really really tight, not being aggressive, and in that moment they decided to be to try a little.
Speaker 1: Bit aggression and darkok was out of out of it. Oh my god, how many extra games will ultimately be played by the time this entire series? Uh man, that was some pullet one game one game in Yeah, pretty good effort on both sides. How do you feel about where we go from here?
Speaker 2: Who do you?
Speaker 1: Who do you? Who? Do you think it's gonna take the series? The whole thing? Yeah? I mean, obviously one game is not that that's a that's a shitty metric, but like neither team got run out of the run out of the barn tonight, it was pretty pretty good effort on both sides. So like, I mean, how are you how are you feeling? I definitely think it's gonna go seven.
Speaker 2: I think it went seven last year and it was and this was even better and even more.
Speaker 1: About you don't see how this stuffn't go.
Speaker 2: I mean, we'll see sact question after game two because I want to see how Florida.
Speaker 1: I definitely think that Edmonton has Edvington. I don't know Edmonton's playing better. They got they got beaten the fat three games in a row and then for it, it didn't show up for three more games. And the game seven last year was pretty soundly for it as I thought, like I fell like the INTI was pulled in them all, but I don't think that they were in it. Yeah, I mean and and trying not to sound tripe for any of my definition Edmonton. Edmonton did not want to lose this game, and I just realized that they were not going to lose this game and then didn't.
Speaker 1: But I think that Florida showed.
Speaker 2: Up yeah, well about them deciding that they weren't going to lose it. I think that they made that decision in.
Speaker 1: The third period and that was the difference. Paper Yeah, and say go Bees. You always say Brad, Brad, Brad, b Brad
Speaker 2: Mhm h
Podbean
