1:12 Speaker 2: from Snowmageddon in it seems like everywhere it's just disgusting,

1:20 Speaker 2: absolutely disgusting. I'm pretty much done with Mother Nature and

1:25 Speaker 2: all of her terrible, terrible jokes this winter. But I digress.

1:36 Speaker 2: who is likely still basking in the glow of victories

1:41 Speaker 2: for Team USA as I am. That has been the

1:44 Speaker 2: one bright spot of this weekend.

1:49 Speaker 1: Yes, this whole week we have been just blessed by

1:56 Speaker 1: the hockey gods on all fronts and bo both tournaments

2:01 Speaker 1: to see some of the best hockey I have ever

2:06 Speaker 1: seen in my entire life. Both the men's and the

2:10 Speaker 1: women's women's hockey. You know, I want to just come

2:13 Speaker 1: out and just say to anybody who is poo pooing

2:17 Speaker 1: the women's hockey team or whatever, you don't know hockey,

2:21 Speaker 1: because you don't know hockey, get a grip on yourselves.

2:23 Speaker 1: You have no idea. Holy shit.

2:26 Speaker 2: So I know we said last week, or I said

2:28 Speaker 2: last week in our episode that I found it to

2:33 Speaker 2: be not very compelling hockey up until these Metal rounds,

2:39 Speaker 2: and I don't think it was compelling. I wasn't alone

2:42 Speaker 2: in in depth block, but the Metal rounds for both

2:47 Speaker 2: the men and the women, Holy molly, did they deliver

2:53 Speaker 2: great hockey in the best way possible.

2:58 Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I would say that, and I mean, you know,

3:04 Speaker 1: hat tip to all of the other teams. But today

3:09 Speaker 1: we are mostly just going to be talking about Canada

3:12 Speaker 1: and the US and both the men's and the women's tournaments.

3:14 Speaker 1: Both teams leading up to their respective Metal rounds and

3:20 Speaker 1: the gold medal games, they played not necessarily fast and loose,

3:26 Speaker 1: but those games that really really started to matter, they

3:32 Speaker 1: started to get super tight, really low scoring, and it

3:37 Speaker 1: became so much more exciting, so much more stressful. It was.

3:43 Speaker 1: It was a completely different game that we saw, completely different.

3:48 Speaker 1: It was night and day. It was night and day.

3:51 Speaker 1: And I can't pinpoint what the difference was other than

3:57 Speaker 1: the stakes got a little bit higher. Maybe there were

4:01 Speaker 1: wake up calls for certain teams in terms of, you

4:05 Speaker 1: know how it seemed like a bit of a cake walk.

4:09 Speaker 1: It was for you know, let's let's lay it out

4:13 Speaker 1: on the table. Team USA Women's they were just kicking ass,

4:18 Speaker 1: taking names and numbers. I don't think they really had

4:21 Speaker 1: any hard games. Same thing for Team Canada Men's up

4:27 Speaker 1: until the Metal rounds, where everything was seemingly falling right

4:33 Speaker 1: into you know, the script that was written for them,

4:37 Speaker 1: so to speak. And maybe the men's team's USA to

4:41 Speaker 1: a little degree, but I know that we had shared

4:43 Speaker 1: some concerns about where's the next level? Where is it?

4:47 Speaker 1: Are they hiding it? Do they have it? Yeah?

4:49 Speaker 2: But yikes, when they got to those Metal games, those

4:53 Speaker 2: those those specific teams and and Team Canada Women's, hats

4:58 Speaker 2: off to them because I think they didn't seem to

5:01 Speaker 2: be playing as strong as as our women's team was.

5:07 Speaker 1: But boy, in that gold medal game, they brought it

5:12 Speaker 1: to another level. Yeah, defensively, I mean they the Canadian

5:18 Speaker 1: women defensively found an ability to completely shut down Team

5:27 Speaker 1: USA's offense. And of course it all comes down to goaltending.

5:32 Speaker 1: Both Canada and the United States fantastic goaltenders. I mean,

5:36 Speaker 1: you know, we're going to get to our stick taps.

5:39 Speaker 1: But Aaron Frankel allowed two goals in the entire tournament.

5:46 Speaker 1: Two goals allowed, okay, And when I was watching that game,

5:52 Speaker 1: quite frankly, the goal that she allowed by Canada a

5:56 Speaker 1: little bit of a freak occurrence because it was not

6:00 Speaker 1: too long after the start of the period and I

6:04 Speaker 1: think that the ice was still a little bit slippery

6:08 Speaker 1: from the refresh and she just didn't, you know, made

6:12 Speaker 1: a tiny mistake, didn't adjust in time, and the goal

6:16 Speaker 1: kind of snuck in. But the fact that the team

6:21 Speaker 1: Team USA didn't run away with the shots on goal,

6:25 Speaker 1: didn't score five goals in a game. They had scored

6:29 Speaker 1: five goals in every game that they played except for

6:33 Speaker 1: that game. So Team Canada's defense just really stepped up.

6:40 Speaker 1: And these two teams played against each other in the

6:43 Speaker 1: preliminaries and it was a blowout. Was there was no contests.

6:48 Speaker 1: Needless to say, I was thinking and I think we

6:51 Speaker 1: talked about this last week because that had happened. At

6:53 Speaker 1: that point, if I was Team Canada, I'd been a

6:57 Speaker 1: little bit nervous going into then that Golden Game. But

7:01 Speaker 1: they they kind of flipped the script and they they

7:04 Speaker 1: came out a very different team, and I don't know

7:08 Speaker 1: if that was a bit of a surprise to Team USA,

7:14 Speaker 1: but sure enough, Captain America herself, Hillary Knight, was able

7:20 Speaker 1: to score just an absolutely filthy goal on the Canadian

7:23 Speaker 1: goaltender to actually give the women then that chance to

7:27 Speaker 1: go into overtime and have a smile on my face.

7:32 Speaker 2: I don't know how you can not.

7:36 Speaker 1: Not be happy.

7:38 Speaker 2: Wait right, see see the commitment, the effort, the pride,

7:46 Speaker 2: the work ethic that these ladies have put in, and

7:51 Speaker 2: and and our men too, because you know now the

7:54 Speaker 2: men that the Team US and men's were just were viewed,

7:59 Speaker 2: I believe, as underdogs if they were going to meet

8:02 Speaker 2: up with Team Canada, and we're going to get to

8:05 Speaker 2: that game. Because there were some things that came out

8:08 Speaker 2: of that game that were awesome and things that are

8:12 Speaker 2: not so awesome that I have some thoughts and comments about,

8:17 Speaker 2: but we'll we'll get to that. This couldn't have played

8:22 Speaker 2: out any better for USA hockey purposes. Oh yeah, if

8:27 Speaker 2: you had kids watching that game, girls, boys, whatever, they're

8:33 Speaker 2: all running around right now, I would think saying, I

8:37 Speaker 2: want to play hockey.

8:38 Speaker 1: I want to play hockey.

8:39 Speaker 2: I want to be I want to be like Jack Hughes,

8:41 Speaker 2: I want to be like Hillary Knight.

8:43 Speaker 1: Yeah. For long time listeners of the pod, even since

8:47 Speaker 1: last year's Four Nations tournament, I have consistently said that

8:53 Speaker 1: this for the men in particular, this is the best

8:57 Speaker 1: team USA that the men say the program has put together,

9:01 Speaker 1: that this was the best chance that they had. But

9:05 Speaker 1: on the women's side, they've always been good to That's

9:09 Speaker 1: something that they have had a degree of success that

9:12 Speaker 1: the men's side of the program has not had. Granted, yes,

9:17 Speaker 1: women's hockey has only been at the Olympics since nineteen

9:21 Speaker 1: ninety eight, and it's been the same two teams in

9:25 Speaker 1: the final every single time. But what team usay on

9:33 Speaker 1: the women's side put forward, I think simultaneously to the

9:40 Speaker 1: impact that the men's team isnt because again, forty six

9:43 Speaker 1: years on par in my opinion, but in two different ways.

9:48 Speaker 1: You know, there's the men's team again that is a

9:50 Speaker 1: generational impact the history behind it. It's going to get

9:54 Speaker 1: all sorts of kids excited about hockey and trying hockey.

9:59 Speaker 1: We know that it nineteen eighty that that win got

10:03 Speaker 1: a lot of American kids into hockey, and so don't

10:06 Speaker 1: be surprised if in fifteen years we see an influx

10:12 Speaker 1: of American players in the pros. But for women's hockey,

10:16 Speaker 1: the product that I saw on the ice was the

10:21 Speaker 1: most elite level finesse hockey I have ever seen put

10:28 Speaker 1: out there for women's hockey, and just the product in general.

10:32 Speaker 1: I mean, there were women on that team. I think

10:36 Speaker 1: that there is zero question in my mind that they

10:40 Speaker 1: could make an NHL team. There's a zero question in

10:44 Speaker 1: my mind right because you've got you have players in

10:47 Speaker 1: the NHL who maybe they're not as physical, they're not

10:51 Speaker 1: as big, but they are those finesse players. And Team

10:55 Speaker 1: USA's Women certainly has people who could make an NHI well.

11:01 Speaker 2: And they're shaped there. They they're comprised of so much

11:06 Speaker 2: experience and talent and leadership within that room. It's just again,

11:16 Speaker 2: it's just a testament to how far the women's sport

11:19 Speaker 2: has come in hockey. The fact that we have now

11:24 Speaker 2: a women's professional league and the Fleet to have a

11:28 Speaker 2: game upcoming here that as Team USA continued to advance,

11:33 Speaker 2: more seats were sold by the time they got to

11:35 Speaker 2: the gold medal game, that that Fleet home game is

11:39 Speaker 2: totally sold out, which is awesome. Which is awesome the

11:43 Speaker 2: league will be able to expand and therefore afford and

11:47 Speaker 2: provide an opportunity for yet more young women to develop

11:53 Speaker 2: and grow in the sport. It's just it like gives

11:57 Speaker 2: It gives me goose bumps. I think it's freaking awesome.

12:00 Speaker 2: And the fact that the fact that there seems to

12:04 Speaker 2: be a good and genuine camaraderie and support between men

12:13 Speaker 2: and women the USA Hockey and those teams, I think

12:17 Speaker 2: is awesome. That can only help the women's cause.

12:22 Speaker 1: Absolutely. I think that the PWHL has really put the

12:26 Speaker 1: cherry on top for women's hockey in general. It's not

12:30 Speaker 1: the first professional league, but this is the first coalesced group.

12:38 Speaker 1: Right There. Used to be a couple of smaller pro leagues,

12:40 Speaker 1: and as you grow and develop that singular league, you

12:47 Speaker 1: are bringing together the best talent that you can find

12:50 Speaker 1: in hockey and bringing that to all of these women

12:54 Speaker 1: to help grow and develop their game. They're sharing the resources,

12:58 Speaker 1: just like with the NHL. I mean, think about it,

13:00 Speaker 1: when you had you went from complete amateurs in the

13:03 Speaker 1: Olympics to professionals. They're not just professionals because they're not

13:10 Speaker 1: just good because they are professional. They are good because

13:12 Speaker 1: they have access to all of the things that professionals

13:14 Speaker 1: have to help raise and elevate their game, right, but

13:17 Speaker 1: all those people behind them to condition them, to coach them,

13:22 Speaker 1: to give them proper nutrition and all of that kind

13:26 Speaker 1: of stuff. And so I think you've hit the nail

13:28 Speaker 1: on the head that as the women's the PWHL expands

13:32 Speaker 1: and grows and brings in more women, it increases the

13:35 Speaker 1: competition level and increases the product that you see out

13:40 Speaker 1: of the ice fantastic all around. I was in the

13:44 Speaker 1: same boat as you. I was a little bit worried

13:47 Speaker 1: that this tournament was going to be lopsided on one

13:49 Speaker 1: side as a hockey fan, fantasngratulation.

13:55 Speaker 2: The team team both team usas on bringing home the gold.

14:03 Speaker 2: But I think even more so the pride that was

14:07 Speaker 2: on display, you know, and I'm not going to go

14:10 Speaker 2: into any type of you know, political tangent, but the

14:14 Speaker 2: fact that we actually have people like Jack Hughes and

14:19 Speaker 2: Hillary Knight showing pride.

14:22 Speaker 1: But being an American is awesome, absolutely awesome. Although I

14:27 Speaker 1: have to say this is kind of funny. With all

14:29 Speaker 1: these NHLers playing in the Olympics, we were very torn

14:34 Speaker 1: about who we wanted to win different games because it's

14:37 Speaker 1: so much harder when you've got these pros, and like,

14:39 Speaker 1: all these bruins are in these different teams, and it's like,

14:41 Speaker 1: but I love Pasta, I know this team to what

14:45 Speaker 1: you know? I know.

14:46 Speaker 2: I have to tell you I was rooting for certain

14:50 Speaker 2: certain players up to a point, but I found myself

14:54 Speaker 2: yesterday for the first time. I looked at my daughter

14:58 Speaker 2: and I said, I have no problem rooting against Brad Marshand,

15:04 Speaker 2: no problem whatsoever rooting against Marshi.

15:09 Speaker 1: That's hilarious, I know. But then that means you also

15:14 Speaker 1: had to root for.

15:14 Speaker 2: Austin Matthews, well, you know what, and the Kutchuk boys.

15:18 Speaker 2: But you know what, because of it, because I am

15:22 Speaker 2: proud to be in America, American, because you know, I'm

15:26 Speaker 2: a competitive you know what, I could hold my nose.

15:31 Speaker 2: I could hold my nose in this instance to watch

15:34 Speaker 2: those boys and honestly say what you will about the

15:38 Speaker 2: Kutchuk boys. And I know, you know, we're not all

15:40 Speaker 2: fans of how they played their games. But to see

15:45 Speaker 2: Matthew Kutchuk skate over to the stands, oh, don't even

15:50 Speaker 2: and and and along with I believe it was we're

15:54 Speaker 2: in and pick up the good Boudreaux kids. Listen, I

16:00 Speaker 2: don't care if he ran over an old lady on

16:03 Speaker 2: her bike yesterday to do that, and they brought those

16:07 Speaker 2: kids over to take that picture.

16:09 Speaker 1: Sorry, that to me is like someone whose cutting onions,

16:29 Speaker 1: story because I thought this was hilarious. But when the

16:32 Speaker 1: women went into overtime, oh my god, and Megan Keller

16:37 Speaker 1: scored that goal, I screamed. I shrieked so loud, and

16:43 Speaker 1: I jumped up so fast I had to immediately sit

16:47 Speaker 1: down because I thought I was going to pass out.

16:53 Speaker 2: I can tell you that, you know, the men's game,

16:58 Speaker 2: to me, yesterday felt like a game seven of a

17:02 Speaker 2: Stanley Cup Finals. Oh my god, where I'm like, I'm

17:05 Speaker 2: not even playing the game. And I think any of

17:07 Speaker 2: us who were watching that game that have been longstanding

17:11 Speaker 2: hockey fans and knowing the history of these two teams

17:15 Speaker 2: and the last time that team USA brought home Olympic gold,

17:19 Speaker 2: and I'm thinking, I'm a rep here, like I'm ready

17:22 Speaker 2: to throw up in my mouth, and I'm not even

17:25 Speaker 2: playing this game. Like that's how intense. And I can

17:30 Speaker 2: only imagine how those players on the ice felt. And listen,

17:36 Speaker 2: say what we will about Connor Hellibuck and the yips

17:39 Speaker 2: that he's had in the past for his playoffs, and

17:42 Speaker 2: say what you will about Tim Thomas and the run

17:45 Speaker 2: he had in the twenty eleven Stanley Cup Finals. That

17:49 Speaker 2: game yesterday, by far, was one of the most superb

17:53 Speaker 2: goaltending performances I have ever seen in my lifetime. You

17:59 Speaker 2: talk about getting a monkey off your striking back, although

18:04 Speaker 2: now the pressure on him because his team is going

18:09 Speaker 2: to expect that from him, But you know what, that's

18:13 Speaker 2: Winnipeg's issue, not yes, yes, but well and then for the.

18:18 Speaker 1: Team you I say, men's. I didn't know that the

18:22 Speaker 1: game had ended because the camera angle was kind of terrible,

18:27 Speaker 1: Like I'm man put all of NBC into our penalty

18:31 Speaker 1: box later, but I didn't know the game ended. I'm

18:34 Speaker 1: sitting there watching, you know, like I got my my

18:37 Speaker 1: face in my hands, and my husband is standing there

18:41 Speaker 1: and he's watching, and he's like, is it over? And

18:44 Speaker 1: I was like what what?

18:47 Speaker 2: What?

18:47 Speaker 1: Because it felt surreal. It felt surreal. You didn't see it,

18:51 Speaker 1: and I just it's not that I didn't think they

18:54 Speaker 1: could do it. I was just preparing myself for the

18:58 Speaker 1: disappointment that they weren't going to do it. Do you

18:59 Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like, I just want to think

19:01 Speaker 1: that they could do it, because I've seen them not

19:05 Speaker 1: do it so many times. But we'll get into the game.

19:09 Speaker 1: We'll get into the later, the dirty details of the game.

19:13 Speaker 2: I absolutely flip and love every minute of it, every

19:19 Speaker 2: minute of it. Right, But we do have some Bruins business. Yes,

19:25 Speaker 2: we have some Bruins business. Bruins get back to work

19:29 Speaker 2: on Thursday night. We are going to preview those those

19:32 Speaker 2: games quickly. We have heard that Pavel Zaka has been practicing, however,

19:40 Speaker 2: practicing in a no contact jersey.

19:45 Speaker 1: I think that he just came out of the cot

19:48 Speaker 1: I think they're off today.

19:50 Speaker 2: I don't think they were going to practice today. I

19:54 Speaker 2: think this was an off date for them. But practicing

20:00 Speaker 2: have been taking place for the non Olympians since February eighteenth.

20:05 Speaker 2: We're holding out hope that all of the Olympians get

20:09 Speaker 2: back to their respected teams with what is happening here

20:13 Speaker 2: with weather issues and hundreds and hundreds of flights being canceled.

20:18 Speaker 2: But I think the good news on that front is

20:21 Speaker 2: is that only a small segment of players have games

20:28 Speaker 2: that are scheduled to take place on Wednesday. The rest

20:32 Speaker 2: of them should be able to get back to their

20:35 Speaker 2: teams for their Thursday games. But we'll see about that.

20:39 Speaker 2: But yeah, we're back to hockey business.

20:42 Speaker 1: So actually half a league starts on Wednesday. Okay, that's

20:46 Speaker 1: more than I was expecting. That's more than I was

20:47 Speaker 1: expecting too. Yeah. Yeah, some key guys are going to

20:52 Speaker 1: have to ski daddle out of Europe to get home

20:56 Speaker 1: in time and hopefully no significant delays with the storm

21:00 Speaker 1: that's that's currently hitting the northeast.

21:03 Speaker 2: Yeah, that's hummeling kicking the crap out of us right now.

21:07 Speaker 2: So let's get to the men's game, because that's the

21:11 Speaker 2: most recent that took place on Sunday. I know a

21:15 Speaker 2: lot of people were bitching and moaning about the time

21:19 Speaker 2: of the game. And listen, I understand it is frustrating, right,

21:23 Speaker 2: you're in the Pacific Coast. It's am right, right, right,

21:28 Speaker 2: But you also have to understand there's a big world

21:31 Speaker 2: out there, people, Okay, yes, and this was taking place

21:36 Speaker 2: in a component of that big world. And they also,

21:41 Speaker 2: you know, the schedulers wanted to try and ensure that

21:44 Speaker 2: all of the athletes and perhaps even spectators of that

21:48 Speaker 2: gold medal game would be able to attend the closing

21:51 Speaker 2: ceremonies in some way, shape or form. So again easy

21:55 Speaker 2: for me to say, I even heard people whining about

21:59 Speaker 2: the fact that it was eight ten am Eastern Standard time. Well,

22:02 Speaker 2: let me tell you, there were a lot of bars

22:03 Speaker 2: in Boston that we end up at seven thirty am

22:06 Speaker 2: on Sunday morning that had quite a number of people here,

22:10 Speaker 2: oh yeah, watching this game. I was not at one

22:13 Speaker 2: of them, even though one was within walking distance to

22:16 Speaker 2: my house.

22:17 Speaker 1: I decided to.

22:18 Speaker 2: Watch at all. So I understand that. But listen, these

22:24 Speaker 2: games can't all be scheduled to everyone's convenience, and especially

22:31 Speaker 2: when it's on a world stage. It's just it's next

22:34 Speaker 2: to one possible. So if you really want to watch

22:37 Speaker 2: the game, you can make the effort to watch the game,

22:40 Speaker 2: or you know, stay off of social media and watch

22:44 Speaker 2: it after the fact. Because what I ended up watching

22:47 Speaker 2: it again later in the evening because it was being

22:50 Speaker 2: replayed on USA Network and I'm like, I'm gonna watch

22:53 Speaker 2: this again because I think it was fun to watch.

22:56 Speaker 1: Yeah, oh goodness. Yeah, well we were already up, were

23:00 Speaker 1: ready to go, so I was just glad it didn't

23:03 Speaker 1: go into overtime for another two or three overtimes like

23:07 Speaker 1: we've seen.

23:08 Speaker 2: Possible half And I think that's one of the rationales

23:11 Speaker 2: who are going to three on three. And I know

23:13 Speaker 2: there's been a lot of controversy about that as well,

23:17 Speaker 2: and we'll get to John Cooper's whining about that, but

23:22 Speaker 2: in terms of being able to I think you have

23:26 Speaker 2: more of a plausible chance of the game being completed

23:31 Speaker 2: and having a result three on three rather than five

23:35 Speaker 2: on five. Hey, yeah, this game was not the Stanley

23:38 Speaker 2: Cup finals. This was an international tournament. This happens with

23:45 Speaker 2: World Cups where they go to you know, a shootout

23:49 Speaker 2: as well. These games have to end at some point,

23:54 Speaker 2: and why it's not a perfect scenario or ideal because

23:59 Speaker 2: we're a customer to you know, five on five in

24:03 Speaker 2: the Stanley Cup playoffs, that's it. There's no gimmicks after that,

24:07 Speaker 2: there's no gimmicks. Okay, I get it, I get it.

24:10 Speaker 2: But in this instance, it's an international tournament. There are

24:15 Speaker 2: time constraints, there are travel constraints, there's any number of things.

24:20 Speaker 2: So you've got to come up with somewhat of a

24:23 Speaker 2: viable or matt see it to its conclusion so that

24:28 Speaker 2: a winner.

24:31 Speaker 1: Can come forward.

24:32 Speaker 2: Now here's where I have a problem with John Cooper

24:37 Speaker 2: and his comments. Now, and maybe I didn't understand the

24:40 Speaker 2: context of the comments, but when you're whining after you've lost,

24:47 Speaker 2: and we all saw your reaction John from the bench.

24:51 Speaker 1: Because we clearly heard you.

24:54 Speaker 2: Say Buck, okay, didn't need to be a lip reader,

24:58 Speaker 2: all right, exactly, Okay. If I'm not mistaken, and maybe

25:04 Speaker 2: I'm wrong, I would like to think that the IOC

25:10 Speaker 2: shared with all of the coaches and general managers of

25:13 Speaker 2: these teams what the format was going to be.

25:18 Speaker 1: Well, and we see overtime in the regular season is

25:22 Speaker 1: three on three because you want to get and the

25:24 Speaker 1: reason why it's three on three is to try and

25:28 Speaker 1: get the game and correct. So it's the same concept.

25:32 Speaker 1: I don't want to hear it post game.

25:34 Speaker 2: I don't want to hear you bitching about the format

25:37 Speaker 2: post game because you sound like a petulant child who

25:43 Speaker 2: had his ball taken away from him.

27:41 Speaker 1: It was you. Okay, So if you're pissed off at somebody,

27:53 Speaker 2: say you'll be the judge of who the better team

28:46 Speaker 2: shaking hands as they were lining up to get their medals.

28:59 Speaker 2: This is what you want to represent to Maclin, Celebrini

29:02 Speaker 2: and other young players who come after him. This is

29:06 Speaker 2: your leadership there to act like a spoiled, freaking mad

29:11 Speaker 2: brat and being disrespectful to Team USA. I'm sorry, I

29:18 Speaker 2: have a real problem with that, and I think it's

29:21 Speaker 2: a shitty look for Team Canada for sure.

29:25 Speaker 1: I am in one hundred percent agreement. You know, again,

29:30 Speaker 1: he can feel sad, he can feel mad also there

29:35 Speaker 1: you have to learn, you know, this is a lesson

29:39 Speaker 1: that we teach kids all the time, especially where when

29:42 Speaker 1: they're in youth sports. You're not going to win everything

29:46 Speaker 1: every single time, and you can you can be mad,

29:52 Speaker 1: like you need to say out loud privately because sometimes

29:55 Speaker 1: you gotta get it off your chest. And that's totally fine. However,

29:58 Speaker 1: it also was disrespectful to the IOC because you were

30:06 Speaker 1: invited to play in the Olympics, you as an individual

30:12 Speaker 1: and you as a.

30:13 Speaker 3: Team, you're representing a country, you're you were you were

30:18 Speaker 3: awarded a medal. You were awarded an Olympic medal will

30:23 Speaker 3: exist in the history books. This is something that not

30:27 Speaker 3: many people in the world have.

30:30 Speaker 1: And the IOC recognized your incredible accomplishments. They were the

30:38 Speaker 1: incredible accomplishment to get there, to be there, right, and

30:45 Speaker 1: not only of course, those comments were meant to be

30:50 Speaker 1: disrespectful to the winning team, and that's how hockey is.

30:53 Speaker 1: Them's the breaks, right, hockey gods. Say what you will, whatever,

30:57 Speaker 1: that's how hockey were. Call it whatever you want. But

31:02 Speaker 1: I think it was even more disrespectful to the IOC

31:07 Speaker 1: to you know, receive the metal, the handshake, the stuffy

31:13 Speaker 1: and look that way.

31:17 Speaker 2: Because awful, Absolutely awful in my view, absolutely awful, and

31:21 Speaker 2: I a little humble.

31:23 Speaker 1: Together to you get to the room and you can

31:26 Speaker 1: have a bitch session with your teammates. Still the cows

31:29 Speaker 1: come home.

31:32 Speaker 2: And I understand, right, the level of intensity and and

31:36 Speaker 2: what was at stake for both those teams. You know,

31:39 Speaker 2: I've never played in a situation like that I can

31:42 Speaker 2: only surmise, we guess right, the level of emotion and

31:49 Speaker 2: the level of sadness and frustration. However, however, if you're

31:55 Speaker 2: deemed to be a leader, you're deemed to be a lead.

32:00 Speaker 2: That is not how you conduct yourself. And I called

32:06 Speaker 2: our local sports talk radio show this morning because they

32:08 Speaker 2: were talking about this very topic. One of the hosts

32:12 Speaker 2: on that show is a former Patriots player who has

32:17 Speaker 2: won a Super Bowl and has also sustained some heartbreaking

32:21 Speaker 2: losses as a result. And his comment to me was,

32:27 Speaker 2: take your l like a man. And Nathan McKinnon did

32:32 Speaker 2: not do that.

32:33 Speaker 1: No, I think not. Jacqulin Celebrini handled it better than

32:40 Speaker 1: he did, and Maclin's all of nineteen years of age.

32:43 Speaker 1: He showed more maturity. I mean, you certainly didn't see

32:48 Speaker 1: any of the Canadian women behave that way. It was

32:51 Speaker 1: and not that not that the women would be more

32:53 Speaker 1: inclined to behave that way, but everybody else kept it together.

32:58 Speaker 1: Everybody else kept it together. Mm hmm, yeah.

33:08 Speaker 2: it was a disappointment for me because again I've always

33:21 Speaker 2: oh yeah, obviously plays an honorable game. He's always played

33:25 Speaker 2: an honorable game. But I don't think he was honorable

33:29 Speaker 2: in that specific moment. And you know, at some point

33:34 Speaker 2: I would like to think that someone or him is

33:37 Speaker 2: going to walk that back. I don't know, I haven't

33:40 Speaker 2: seen anything or heard anything to that effect, but you know,

33:45 Speaker 2: I just I just it. It ticked me off, and

33:49 Speaker 2: I was not alone in those thoughts. But now let's

33:53 Speaker 2: get to the good stuff. Conn of freaking Hellibu, Jack Hughes,

33:58 Speaker 2: Quinn Hughes, like the whole the whole bunch of them,

34:05 Speaker 1: Wrensky, just all of it. Were they a perfect team? No?

34:10 Speaker 1: And listen, I can be honest because I know I

34:14 Speaker 1: said on more than one.

34:16 Speaker 2: Occasion leading up to these games that I didn't think

34:21 Speaker 2: that that Team USA was as deep and as talented

34:27 Speaker 2: as Team Canada. Agreed, But if a member of Team

34:31 Speaker 2: USA had conducted themselves in that same manner, they'd be

34:37 Speaker 2: hearing the same crap from me, the same criticism.

34:41 Speaker 1: Yeah from me. Well, and you know, I mean emotions aside.

34:46 Speaker 1: There is a there is a kernel of truth in

34:49 Speaker 1: what uh McKinnon said. If you watch that whole game.

34:54 Speaker 1: Canada was driving the ship. They were.

34:57 Speaker 2: USA was under siege in the second time, but that

35:03 Speaker 2: second period share domination like Connor Pellbuck was freaking and.

35:10 Speaker 1: The defenseman like, let's be here, yes, yes, yes, that

35:14 Speaker 1: one uh stick saved by Hellibuck was the save of

35:19 Speaker 1: the game, but let's not forget that it was in

35:23 Speaker 1: the net in another moment when that could have been it.

35:28 Speaker 1: Their defense, the team USA's defense, is what kept them

35:34 Speaker 1: in the game long enough to get to that overtime

35:37 Speaker 1: where they would then finally have a chance, and they

35:41 Speaker 1: just kept going and doing what they knew was you

35:44 Speaker 1: know what they had to do, working their system. They

35:48 Speaker 1: were not the fancy I called Canada in the game

35:53 Speaker 1: Rolls Royce like. They were just a seamless machine that

35:57 Speaker 1: was perfection. And these guys who were the John Deere

36:01 Speaker 1: tractor and at the end, they were the ones who

36:06 Speaker 1: were able to pull it off because it was the

36:10 Speaker 1: right place at the right time. And that's that's the

36:14 Speaker 1: beauty of the game of hockey. That is that is

36:17 Speaker 1: why the Stanley Cup Playoffs are best of seven in

36:20 Speaker 1: every single round because that one little mistake, that one

36:24 Speaker 1: little thing could happen, and gardens forever, forever becomes smaller

36:32 Speaker 1: and smaller and smaller. Yes, the game goes deeper and deeper.

36:36 Speaker 1: And listen, we've seen it happen how many times, right

36:40 Speaker 1: in watching our Boston Bruins in playoff hockey.

36:43 Speaker 2: How many times? Right, that's that's the nature of the gang.

36:49 Speaker 2: That's the nature of the game. And in this instance,

36:52 Speaker 2: in this instance, right, things didn't fall into place as

36:58 Speaker 2: it may have been. Script did four Team Canada Before

37:02 Speaker 2: these games even started, right, they were deemed to be

37:08 Speaker 2: the leader in the.

37:09 Speaker 1: Clubhouse to win it all. Yeah, they were put together

37:16 Speaker 1: and seven they would win.

37:18 Speaker 2: They would, like no doubt in my mind, right right, right,

37:20 Speaker 2: we saw it happened at the Four Nations.

37:22 Speaker 1: Right, we saw it happened at the Four Nations. So

37:26 Speaker 1: I just.

37:29 Speaker 2: I want credit to be given to Team USA, and

37:36 Speaker 2: maybe not credit. Just don't disrespect the effort. Sure, don't

37:41 Speaker 2: disrespect the effort by those players that won that game.

37:47 Speaker 1: My biggest concern going into the overtime was because of

37:52 Speaker 1: the intensity of this game. Right, Team USA starts the

37:55 Speaker 1: period they're shot out of a cannon. They're super intense.

37:59 Speaker 1: They're then getting bombard art for two more periods. You know,

38:02 Speaker 1: the whole time we're watching this, we're like, they can't

38:05 Speaker 1: possibly sustain this level of play for sixty minutes, and

38:08 Speaker 1: yet somehow.

38:10 Speaker 2: They've found because I kept I kept waiting for Team

38:13 Speaker 2: Canada's big guys to start to lose some stamina, just

38:17 Speaker 2: because but they had launched so many minutes up until

38:21 Speaker 2: that gold medal game.

38:23 Speaker 1: What I was so afraid of happening, because it's kind

38:26 Speaker 1: of would have just been a very anti climactic end,

38:29 Speaker 1: was that the that the the game winner was going

38:33 Speaker 1: to be the result of somebody making a mistake instead

38:36 Speaker 1: of being the result of somebody having the skill, right,

38:41 Speaker 1: because we've seen that, right, somebody they're just exhausted. You've

38:43 Speaker 1: seen the double overtime games, and they're just like, it's

38:46 Speaker 1: just going to be when somebody makes a mistake because

38:48 Speaker 1: they're just so beaten up.

38:51 Speaker 2: Or you know, a flub or you know the missip

38:54 Speaker 2: because there's exhaustion or mental.

38:55 Speaker 1: Fatigue, it goes off of your own teammate or something, right, Right,

38:59 Speaker 1: Did I see it like that?

39:01 Speaker 2: Because that would have been terrible, but well, Jack, Jack

39:04 Speaker 2: Hughes will never have to buy himself drink ever again

39:08 Speaker 2: in any part of the United States of America. And

39:12 Speaker 2: these guys have done a tremendous service, as our women

39:16 Speaker 2: have to, as we've said before, the growth and development

39:20 Speaker 2: of USA hockey for years to come. And I'm now

39:24 Speaker 2: wondering if Jack and Quinn and you know, maybe they

39:29 Speaker 2: should start being more of the face faces of the NHL.

39:35 Speaker 2: If the NHL is smart, maybe they'll start to capitalize

39:40 Speaker 2: on that momentum in order to grow their game as well.

39:46 Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Well, look, if we could jump into again

39:50 Speaker 1: our stick tabs and penalty box, the penalty box NBC

39:57 Speaker 1: on a number of for a number of reasons. One

40:01 Speaker 1: for showing us Sad Marshy, because that's I've seen Sad

40:04 Speaker 1: Marshi and that's gutting. The Sad did is horrible to

40:09 Speaker 1: look at. I was like, I don't I please, don't

40:11 Speaker 1: ever show me that again. But also like, look, I

40:16 Speaker 1: understand that, Uh, I understand why NBC decided they needed

43:29 Speaker 1: stellar and upstanding person. I think he didn't get enough

43:37 Speaker 1: of different personalities. If you haven't had the opportunity to

43:41 Speaker 1: read his diary entries for the Athletic so awesome to read.

43:47 Speaker 1: He's such a huge supporter of women's hockey. You know,

43:51 Speaker 1: I love, love everything that Chucky stands for. I think

43:55 Speaker 1: he's a great role model for the kids and his

43:59 Speaker 1: teammates and other players around the world. I mean, he

44:04 Speaker 1: had such a pivotal role. We again, rightly, so everyone's

44:08 Speaker 1: gonna be talking about Connor Hallibuk, everyone's gonna be talking

44:11 Speaker 1: about Jack Hughes. But go back and see that clip,

44:14 Speaker 1: and he absolutely stopped a pretty pretty what would have

44:22 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, definitely. I mean it's just memories, you know,

44:58 Speaker 2: schedule is going to to be crazy crazy moving forward,

45:09 Speaker 2: Ruins get back to business starting on Thursday night against

45:14 Speaker 2: the Columbus Blue Jackets, which come in now. They were

45:18 Speaker 2: on fire, yes, on absolute fire. So since January twelfth,

45:25 Speaker 2: when Rick Bonus took over and he is taking over

45:29 Speaker 2: the reins of the Columbus Blue Jackets only until the

45:32 Speaker 2: end of the season, they played eleven games, ten wins

45:37 Speaker 2: and only one loss. Yeah, during that time, it's unbelievable.

45:43 Speaker 2: And they are now in the hunt. They are now

45:47 Speaker 2: in the hunt or a playoff spot. So you know,

45:51 Speaker 2: this game on Thursday night does carry some serious implications.
