1:53 Speaker 2: going to be exciting and thrilling. And let's just hope

2:02 Speaker 2: up in the wild card spots are two teams that

2:06 Speaker 2: actually want them. And I'm not sure that the Bruins

2:10 Speaker 2: are a team that actually wants that, because I'm getting

2:14 Speaker 2: a little bit of a doodle bug feeling from this

2:17 Speaker 2: team right now.

2:18 Speaker 1: Well, it's been a slog in the East from the

2:21 Speaker 1: drop of the pops back in October, right there have

2:24 Speaker 1: been right now, the only really two teams that stand out,

2:31 Speaker 1: I guess, for lack of a better word, at the

2:35 Speaker 1: Carolina Hurricanes and the Buffalo Sabers. Who would have ever

2:41 Speaker 1: thought we would say this, The Buffalo Sabers could very

2:44 Speaker 1: well win the Eastern Conference.

2:48 Speaker 2: Mind boggling. Not only did we not think that could

2:51 Speaker 2: ever be possible six months ago, I don't think we

2:54 Speaker 2: ever thought that would be possible ten years ago, fifteen years.

3:00 Speaker 1: Ago, right right, I mean, they both the Hurricanes and

3:07 Speaker 1: the Buffalo Sabers have a decent I don't want to

3:12 Speaker 1: say stranglehold on the East, but you know, Tampa. Tampa

3:23 Speaker 1: in hand on those teams. But you know, right now,

3:27 Speaker 1: the Carolina Hurricanes sit atop the Eastern Conference with sixty

3:31 Speaker 1: six games played in ninety points, Buffalo sixty seven games

3:36 Speaker 1: played eighty eight points, Tampa sixty five games eighty four points,

3:41 Speaker 1: and everyone else is in what you refer to as

3:46 Speaker 1: that doodlebug race to get playoff positioning for a wildcard spot,

3:54 Speaker 1: and our Boston Bruins seemed to be doing anything but

3:58 Speaker 1: trying to control their own freaking destiny where this is concerned.

4:05 Speaker 2: The only thing that gives me some hope in spite

4:11 Speaker 2: of the let's call it uninspired play that we've seen

4:16 Speaker 2: since a great way of putting it. It has been

4:18 Speaker 2: totally ill inspiring. The only thing that I think is

4:24 Speaker 2: in Boston's favor right now again, Monday, March sixteenth, they

4:31 Speaker 2: do play tonight, so by the time you hear this

4:33 Speaker 2: things will have changed. However, Boston does have a positive

4:37 Speaker 2: goal differential, and that is very often a pretty strong

4:43 Speaker 2: indicator that odds are they will make it to the postseason.

4:51 Speaker 2: Right now, of the teams that I.

4:54 Speaker 1: Don't know, you are more confident than I because I'm

4:56 Speaker 1: looking at this schedule here from March and there are

5:00 Speaker 1: no easy games here.

5:02 Speaker 2: That being said, the only team right now in the

5:06 Speaker 2: East that currently sits in a playoff position that has

5:09 Speaker 2: a negative differential is the Detroit Red Wings. They have

5:12 Speaker 2: a minus six. And my next little kind of asterisk

5:18 Speaker 2: to all of this is the two teams that are

5:23 Speaker 2: really knocking on the door that are a legitimate threat

5:28 Speaker 2: to Boston losing that position of right now number one

5:34 Speaker 2: wild card. The Columbus Blue Jackets have a positive goal differential.

5:40 Speaker 2: They have a plus four and they have seventy nine

5:43 Speaker 2: points to Boston's eighty. And the Ottawa Senators has watch

5:49 Speaker 2: out the seventy seven points, so they're three points back,

5:54 Speaker 2: but they have a plus twenty goal differential. Now, all

5:58 Speaker 2: three of those teams also have played sixty six games,

6:03 Speaker 2: so it's pretty much neck and neck there to the end, because,

6:11 Speaker 2: like you said, Tampa Bay, somehow, how I just don't understand,

6:16 Speaker 2: has the most games in hand with sixty five eighty

6:22 Speaker 2: four points. I don't know that any one of these

6:27 Speaker 2: teams really can catch up. I mean, they've got a

6:31 Speaker 2: plus forty nine goal differential. Montreal is sitting in that

6:36 Speaker 2: third position in the Atlantic with eighty two points and

6:43 Speaker 2: a plus thirteen. So you know, I think we're looking

6:46 Speaker 2: at Montreal is looking in their rearview mirror, like you said,

6:51 Speaker 2: the Penguins, the Islanders looking in that rear view mirror

6:55 Speaker 2: and paying very close attention to the Bruins, the Red Wings,

6:59 Speaker 2: the Blue Jackets, and the Senators. And I'm not so

7:03 Speaker 2: sure that we're that Philadelphia. I mean, unless those teams

7:08 Speaker 2: that I just mentioned have if any one of them

7:11 Speaker 2: has some sort of catastrophic collapse, I don't know that

7:15 Speaker 2: we're that the Flyers are really going to be in

7:17 Speaker 2: a position to make it. I'm not so sure about

7:20 Speaker 2: the Capitals either. So the Red Wings are teetering. They

7:25 Speaker 2: are without Dylan Larkin, and care's no information as to

7:30 Speaker 2: when he's expected he's expected back. And I also do

7:37 Speaker 2: believe that they have been struggling to string together wins

7:43 Speaker 2: since Larkin went out of the lineup. Yeah, but again

7:50 Speaker 2: that should not factor in when you're the Boston Bruins

7:55 Speaker 2: or any other team. You have to go about the

7:59 Speaker 2: business of securing points. Yep, exactly. And well let's talk

8:06 Speaker 2: really quickly, you know, as we set the table because

8:09 Speaker 2: there's a lot of stuff to talk about happening around

8:11 Speaker 2: the league, because it's been a busy it's been a

8:14 Speaker 2: busy week wide. Yeah, but let's really quickly since we're

8:19 Speaker 2: talking about the playoff picture and what we've just finished

8:23 Speaker 2: talking about kind of where the Bruins have been. You

8:27 Speaker 2: mentioned the upcoming schedule and the difficulty that lies ahead

8:32 Speaker 2: for Boston. So who do we have coming up and

8:37 Speaker 2: what are the concerns. Well, the concerns are is for

8:42 Speaker 2: the remainder of the month of March, you are facing

8:47 Speaker 2: the likes of New Jersey, Montreal, Detroit, Columbus, and Buffalo

8:57 Speaker 2: all on the road.

9:01 Speaker 1: How have we been on the road? We have sucked

9:04 Speaker 1: on the road. I mean, you can't put it any

9:07 Speaker 1: other way. And then the games that you have at

9:10 Speaker 1: home at the TD Garden, you will be facing the

9:14 Speaker 1: likes of the Winnipeg Jets, Minnesota Wild, the Dallas Stars,

9:23 Speaker 1: and I believe the Toronto Mayle Leiefs Now the Toronto

9:25 Speaker 1: Maple Leafs. Who knows if this season is over? Their

9:28 Speaker 1: captain is I think they're not making the playoffs.

9:31 Speaker 2: So and they.

9:34 Speaker 1: Seem to be playing with a bit of a sense

9:37 Speaker 1: of urgency since Austin Matthews went down with the season

9:41 Speaker 1: ending injury.

9:42 Speaker 2: And we'll we'll get to all of that. But these

9:46 Speaker 2: are not.

9:47 Speaker 1: Cupcake teams that you're facing, whether you're at home or

9:52 Speaker 1: you're on the road. Yeah, And so if you want

9:57 Speaker 1: to prove they prove your worth and your worthiness as

10:02 Speaker 1: a potential playoff contender, then you need to play competitive

10:07 Speaker 1: games against you know, the likes of the Dallas Stars

10:13 Speaker 1: and the Minnesota Wild and the Buffalo Sabers and the

10:16 Speaker 1: Montreal Canadians and potentially the Blue Jackets too. These are, right,

10:22 Speaker 1: if not already locked in playoff teams, they are preparing

10:29 Speaker 1: themselves to also be a playoff team, right well, especially considering.

10:38 Speaker 2: We're up against teams that are almost guaranteed a playoff spot.

10:45 Speaker 2: And again, like you said, they're fighting for it, So

10:48 Speaker 2: who wants it more? Who wants it more? Right?

10:52 Speaker 1: So? I just this is why when you have games

10:58 Speaker 1: that you look back on and you say to yourself, right,

11:03 Speaker 1: and we've talked about it, that's a bad loss. That

11:06 Speaker 1: game is going to leave a mark, not taking points

11:09 Speaker 1: when you play the likes of you know, the Nashville

11:12 Speaker 1: Predators for the games early on in October where you

11:17 Speaker 1: pissed away right points because you're your own worst enemy.

11:22 Speaker 1: So you know, I'm sure we're not saying anything that

11:26 Speaker 1: hasn't crossed the minds of the Bruins' coaching staff or

11:30 Speaker 1: the players themselves. However, it doesn't give me a great

11:38 Speaker 1: deal of confidence when I see that the guys that

11:42 Speaker 1: we were relying on at the start or middle of

11:47 Speaker 1: the season, or actually before the break, who have been

11:50 Speaker 1: contributing offensively to now being anemic. Yeah, when it comes

11:58 Speaker 1: to offense, that you can have all the great goaltending

12:02 Speaker 1: you want, and luckily we're getting very good goaltending, and

12:06 Speaker 1: we'll we'll, I'm sure we'll break down a little bit

12:09 Speaker 1: of the recent games, but you still have to be

12:13 Speaker 1: able to put the.

12:14 Speaker 2: Pack in the net.

12:16 Speaker 1: Yep.

12:18 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's been more than disappointing. It's certainly been

12:24 Speaker 2: frustrating to see the number of instances where when we're

12:31 Speaker 2: talking about the big the big boys, David Pasta, not

12:35 Speaker 2: Morgan Greek, you know, certainly, no.

12:37 Speaker 1: No, no, And I'm going to throw in I'm gonna

12:39 Speaker 1: throw in Elias Lindtome because he right where is he?

12:44 Speaker 2: He's disappeared he has allowedly disappear. The biggest difference I

12:49 Speaker 2: would say between him and let's say Pasta and Geeky,

12:53 Speaker 2: at least in the last this past week, Pasta and

12:57 Speaker 2: Geeky have had chances. They've they've been there, and it's

13:04 Speaker 2: just not converting players like Elias Linnholm. Are are you

13:11 Speaker 2: even there? I don't know. Well, at this point the

13:15 Speaker 2: second line it was contributing on the travel play.

13:19 Speaker 1: He was contributing at least popping in some power play goals.

13:23 Speaker 1: But you know, I did a little research this morning

13:26 Speaker 1: because I was bored and I'm aggregated with the Bruins

13:29 Speaker 1: power play. So I went back and looked at from

13:33 Speaker 1: from the start of when the season re engaged after

13:37 Speaker 1: the Olympic break, how many power play opportunities the Bruins

13:42 Speaker 1: have had in the games starting February twenty sixth up

13:47 Speaker 1: through and including the most recent game on Saturday. And

13:54 Speaker 1: the Bruins have had no less than thirty two power

13:59 Speaker 1: play opportunity these and have scored four goals. But they've

14:04 Speaker 1: also given up two short handed goals. Yeah, the power

14:08 Speaker 1: play sucks right now.

14:10 Speaker 2: Yes, Yeah, they need it badly and it's completely non existent.

14:19 Speaker 2: It's not even a mimic. It's non existent. I mean,

14:21 Speaker 2: just looking at this past week, the number of times

14:24 Speaker 2: where they couldn't even maintain control. Forget the two shorties

14:29 Speaker 2: that they've allowed since the break. They can't even stay

14:34 Speaker 2: in the zone, they can't get set up, they're off.

14:36 Speaker 2: They're chasing after guys who are able to poke it

14:39 Speaker 2: out of the zone, and off they go. And again,

14:44 Speaker 2: you know, we say this over and over again. It's

14:45 Speaker 2: like all of these games matter because they are they

14:50 Speaker 2: are up against a lot of different expectations. They're the

14:56 Speaker 2: expectations of the fans, and let's let maybe clear what

15:00 Speaker 2: the expectation is is the same. But the different people,

15:04 Speaker 2: the different groups. You know, it's the fans, it's the ownership,

15:08 Speaker 2: it's themselves and their teammates. And we know again that

15:12 Speaker 2: they have what it takes. So where is it? Where

15:17 Speaker 2: is it? I don't know, Maria, I don't know. I mean,

15:20 Speaker 2: it's a little.

15:24 Speaker 1: It's a positive and a little bit of a negative

15:26 Speaker 1: to me when I look and I see that in

15:30 Speaker 1: these nine games played since the break, Charlie mckaboy is

15:36 Speaker 1: the leading scorer, the leading point getter for the Bruins,

15:40 Speaker 1: he has in nine games five goals, five assists, ten points.

15:45 Speaker 1: Right behind him is victor Ardbertson, Yes, four goals, five points,

15:51 Speaker 1: Pablosaka four goals, five points, Pasta only two goals but

15:56 Speaker 1: six assists. But he's got to start shooting, like he

16:00 Speaker 1: has got to start shooting the damn hup again. He

16:04 Speaker 1: has to, he has to, has to has to.

16:07 Speaker 2: Way low on goals, way all right.

16:11 Speaker 1: And then when you go down through the rest of this,

16:13 Speaker 1: you got Casey middle stat with five points and then

16:16 Speaker 1: Geeky only three points. Lindholm only three points in nine games, yep, him,

16:23 Speaker 1: Marrit Housta Dina only two points. The the energy line

16:28 Speaker 1: of krally E, Simont and Castelic between them, I think

16:34 Speaker 1: they have a total of maybe three points in nine games.

16:37 Speaker 1: Like you simply need more. This is not a good

16:44 Speaker 1: recipe for sustained success.

16:49 Speaker 2: I kind of wonder because I was thinking about when

16:52 Speaker 2: you mentioned something to me during one of the games

16:55 Speaker 2: about Charlie McAvoy, that the that the Olympics did something

17:01 Speaker 2: good for him, right that it it, I don't know,

17:03 Speaker 2: maybe energized him because we've always known that he has

17:06 Speaker 2: been that player deep down, we've seen the flashes of

17:09 Speaker 2: it in the past, and maybe this just inspired him

17:13 Speaker 2: and so he's brought it back to Boston. But why

17:18 Speaker 2: do you think and maybe there's nothing here. Why do

17:22 Speaker 2: you think his re energized play out on the ice

17:27 Speaker 2: isn't influencing any of the rest of the team. Why

17:34 Speaker 2: is he seemingly existing in this vacuum of I'm the

17:40 Speaker 2: one here excited, I got the energy, I've got the

17:43 Speaker 2: get up and go and like literally nobody else does.

17:47 Speaker 1: Right, I don't know, because normally, right, you follow the

17:54 Speaker 1: lead of your leaders, right yeah, So is it a

17:57 Speaker 1: question of and I don't I'm just I'm just talking

18:03 Speaker 1: off the top of my head, Right Are they not

18:05 Speaker 1: buying in to him being a leader?

18:08 Speaker 2: I don't know.

18:10 Speaker 1: But typically when you see a player who is exhibiting

18:15 Speaker 1: that type of play consistently, and you know, I have

18:20 Speaker 1: been a critic of Charlie mclboys, and I think I've

18:23 Speaker 1: been justified in my criticism because, right, yeah, I find

18:31 Speaker 1: it frustrating when a player of the caliber of what

18:37 Speaker 1: Charlie mclboy, We've been told this is the caliber of

18:41 Speaker 1: play we should have been expecting from him, right, needs

18:47 Speaker 1: that motivation of the four Nations or the Olympics. Dude,

18:52 Speaker 1: why haven't you brought that from the beginning? Okay, it's

18:56 Speaker 1: here now, great, Okay. I want you to maintain that.

19:00 Speaker 1: I want you to maintain that. But I don't understand

19:05 Speaker 1: why it's not permeating throughout the rest of the lineup.

19:11 Speaker 1: I don't I don't understand. Now, I'm not saying that,

19:14 Speaker 1: you know, players are dogging it. I don't believe that

19:19 Speaker 1: they're dogging it. I think that they are still playing

19:23 Speaker 1: with a sense of energy and commitment. But I did

19:30 Speaker 1: see in the San Jose game levels of frustration building up,

19:37 Speaker 1: and I think those frustrations definitely bubbled over during the

19:42 Speaker 1: game on Saturday, especially when they pissed away a five

19:47 Speaker 1: on three power play opportunity, and ESPN was kind of

19:52 Speaker 1: scanning the bench and you could see Pasta was pissed,

19:57 Speaker 1: just because I could read his lips, and there were

20:00 Speaker 1: other players who were chirping about their frustration. Now, if

20:04 Speaker 1: your sticks right, and I do believe that this is

20:07 Speaker 1: a thing, right, your stick starts to get tighter and

20:12 Speaker 1: tighter and tighter.

20:15 Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, Well, and I think the narrative that they've

20:22 Speaker 2: been so bad on the road probably has also been

20:26 Speaker 2: getting to them, and it was a combination of what

20:30 Speaker 2: you just said, you know, with the power play and

20:33 Speaker 2: converting on those chances, and then also them being on

20:36 Speaker 2: the road compounded things. And I completely agree. I think

20:40 Speaker 2: we're starting to see them just grip those sticks a

20:43 Speaker 2: little too hard, and maybe the win in Washington will

20:52 Speaker 2: be enough to kind of make them feel like monkey

20:55 Speaker 2: off their backs. I would be a little surprised if

20:58 Speaker 2: it did the trick because it didn't really it wasn't

21:00 Speaker 2: like a real win. It was a shootout win.

21:03 Speaker 1: And can I just say this for the record, Yes,

21:06 Speaker 1: both the Boston Bruins and the Washington Capitals of stuck

21:10 Speaker 1: at shootouts.

21:12 Speaker 2: That was torturedout to it absolutely brutal.

21:17 Speaker 1: And if the league doesn't take a look at that

21:20 Speaker 1: specific shootout and say we bored our viewers to death,

21:27 Speaker 1: we bored our viewers to death. Say what you will

21:30 Speaker 1: about the commentary about the three on three and they

21:32 Speaker 1: need to make changes to that because of the coming

21:35 Speaker 1: in of you know and coming out of the zone.

21:37 Speaker 1: But the shootout that was an abomination, an abomination on

21:43 Speaker 1: Saturday nine rounds.

21:45 Speaker 2: But Jeremy Swayman now holds the record for longest perfect

21:50 Speaker 2: number of rounds of a shootout for the Boston Bruins,

21:53 Speaker 2: beating out Tim Thomas, who had a record eight. He

21:57 Speaker 2: now has nine, so Willagan Thompson. And if if the

22:02 Speaker 2: posts or the pipes were animated objects, they should both

22:06 Speaker 2: take they should both take their pipes out to dinner

22:10 Speaker 2: because they were saved on more than one occasion by pucks.

22:14 Speaker 2: I mean, I have just never seen such uncreative shootout shop.

22:20 Speaker 2: I mean, it was bad. It was so bad. Oh

22:24 Speaker 2: my god, just yeah, they were just all terrible. Stick

22:28 Speaker 2: needles in my eyes. Yeah, I wanted to stick needles

22:31 Speaker 2: in my eyes. And I'm just at that point, I

22:33 Speaker 2: was like, I don't even care who scores. I just

22:36 Speaker 2: need to move on from this. Okay, Yeah, no, that

22:40 Speaker 2: was that was brutal. But anyways, so we've we've talked

22:45 Speaker 2: a little bit about what's coming up ahead. Ahead is

22:50 Speaker 2: not easy. The RoadHead is not easy. You know. There

22:55 Speaker 2: there are a number of divisional games that are yet

22:59 Speaker 2: to be played, and the fact that the the Columbus

23:05 Speaker 2: Blue Jackets Boston still has two more games to play

23:08 Speaker 2: against them, because that was the latest team, the last

23:16 Speaker 2: team to play for any of the other teams. Basically,

23:20 Speaker 2: it was the last first game of a series to

23:24 Speaker 2: happen across the league. So they literally only just played

23:28 Speaker 2: them the first time and they still have two more

23:31 Speaker 2: games against them. They're a very legit threat. And I

23:35 Speaker 2: don't know that Boston really they one, right, I can't

23:39 Speaker 2: even remember now, but yes, they did, they did, they did.

23:43 Speaker 2: It wasn't like a blowout, No, no, it was let's

23:49 Speaker 2: see four to two.

23:54 Speaker 3: That was right after that that That game happened right

23:57 Speaker 3: after It was the first game coming out of the break,

24:07 Speaker 1: Oh no, no, no, it was at the TV Garden

24:09 Speaker 1: and they Bruins won for two. One was a empty

24:15 Speaker 1: net goal by Ardbitson to seal the deal. So and

24:20 Speaker 1: actually it was Felius Proposalo played pretty well in that game,

24:26 Speaker 1: but since then had not played well. And so again,

24:29 Speaker 1: you know, we we can talk about this too, but

24:32 Speaker 1: I think it was imperative on the part of the

24:34 Speaker 1: Boston Bruins to have Jeremy Swayman. He has got to

24:39 Speaker 1: bear the brunt of the workload moving forward. You're being

24:44 Speaker 1: paid as a number one. You yourself said you wanted

24:47 Speaker 1: to be the guy, so to speak, and it's put

24:52 Speaker 1: up or shut up time, because you're going to be

24:55 Speaker 1: the guy that's going to be taking the net for

24:58 Speaker 1: any playoff games that the Bruins play, So you've better

25:03 Speaker 1: get your bleep in order and be ready to see

25:09 Speaker 1: a good amount of rubber until the season ends. That's

25:12 Speaker 1: just my unless they have you know, the only time

25:15 Speaker 1: I think that maybe they should deviate is they've got

34:52 Speaker 2: was the swing to the head of Trent Frederick by Ruba,

35:02 Speaker 2: Jacob Truba, Truba truebase tro check yes by Truba and

35:07 Speaker 2: there was nothing. And then the recent reinjury to Charlie

35:12 Speaker 2: McAvoy's head by that flying elbow from Florida and there

35:18 Speaker 2: was nothing. Nothing came of that this league. And again

35:27 Speaker 2: I understand it can be a complicated thing to make

35:32 Speaker 2: a decision, right, there's always gonna be somebody who's not happy.

35:36 Speaker 2: But if this league is actually committed to player safety,

35:44 Speaker 2: they would decide that these are the injuries or the

35:55 Speaker 2: penalties that are non negotiable, zero tolerance hits to the

36:02 Speaker 2: head and to the knee. Let's just say, I'm sure

36:06 Speaker 2: there are others, but as an example that if you

36:12 Speaker 2: commit this crime, it doesn't matter what your record is,

36:18 Speaker 2: you could be totally clean, first time offender. But because

36:23 Speaker 2: the risk is so great to ending another person's career,

36:29 Speaker 2: their ability to be you could permanently damage somebody and

36:37 Speaker 2: and they and they'll now be disabled or what have you.

36:42 Speaker 2: And so you have to make a decision. Is it

36:45 Speaker 2: legitimately important that these things stop? Because Department of Players

36:51 Speaker 2: Safety Gary Bettman, the league, they have the ability to

36:57 Speaker 2: change the behavior of the players. They have done it before.

37:04 Speaker 2: needed to be a lot less just random fighting, you know,

37:08 Speaker 2: and all the clutching and grabbing, and they told refs

37:19 Speaker 2: about player safety, you're serious about protecting these players from

37:26 Speaker 2: significant head injuries. Forget even CTE like at this point,

37:34 Speaker 2: but we all know head injuries are bad. Knee injuries

37:39 Speaker 2: can cost you everything and be serious. Because I was

37:43 Speaker 2: listening to thirty two Thoughts and they did an evaluation

37:46 Speaker 2: of all of the decisions that have been handed down

37:53 Speaker 2: for I don't know whatever stretch of time, how many

37:56 Speaker 2: games were handed out as suspension and there is no

38:00 Speaker 2: common number. It's it's willingly. So is this a serious injury?
