Speaker 1: This was by far the messiest week of Boston Bruins hockey.
Speaker 1: The first major milestone of the season has come and gone,
Speaker 1: and Boston is pingponging up and down the standings, currently
Speaker 1: sitting in second in the Atlantic on the last day
Speaker 1: of November. But it will be all for nothing if
Speaker 1: they can't stop the bleeding when it comes to penalties.
Speaker 1: Oh and can anyone else score goals right now besides
Speaker 1: Geeky with pastor knock out? That would be great. This
Speaker 1: is a Bruins tape to tape snapshot.
Speaker 2: I'm going to start this snapshot with a simple question.
Speaker 2: After the Boston Bruins defeated the Detroit Red Wings on
Speaker 2: Saturday night at the ted Garden by a final score
Speaker 2: of three to two, and it took a shootout for
Speaker 2: the Bruins to secure that extra point. But my simple
Speaker 2: question is where would the Boston Bruins be this season
Speaker 2: without Morgan Geeky. He is now tied for the lead
Speaker 2: in the league with twenty goals alongside Nathan McKinnon, which
Speaker 2: is not too shabby company. And in the game against
Speaker 2: the Red Wings, he not only got the scoring started,
Speaker 2: he added a power play goal to make it two
Speaker 2: to one in the third period. That goal came after
Speaker 2: it looked like Morgan Geek went down with some type
Speaker 2: of an injury that seemingly looked a little bit scary.
Speaker 2: But this guy is in total beast mode this season, folks,
Speaker 2: and he came back to score that power play goal.
Speaker 2: In addition, Casey middllstat cemented the win with a sweet
Speaker 2: goal in the shootout, and Jeremy Swayman was excellent, excellent,
Speaker 2: excellent in the third period, the entire game, but particularly
Speaker 2: in that shootout, stopping the likes of Patrick Cain and
Speaker 2: Lucas Raymond. All in all, folks, what a great rebound
Speaker 2: win for the Boston Bruins after the dud that they
Speaker 2: laid against the New York Rangers on the Black Friday game.
Speaker 2: In that game, the Bruins showed very little signs of
Speaker 2: light until the third period. At that point, it was
Speaker 2: too little, too late, and even Marco Sturm was not
Speaker 2: pleased at all with the efforts of the players out
Speaker 2: on the ice, and he made no excuses for the
Speaker 2: fact that the Bruins have injuries, none the least of
Speaker 2: which is now we've seen two games without David Pastronach,
Speaker 2: which is why I asked the question where would the
Speaker 2: Bruins be without Morgan Geeky And if David Pastronach is
Speaker 2: out for any extended period, I might start to get
Speaker 2: a bit nervous about how the Bruins are going to
Speaker 2: string together wins. But be that as it may, I
Speaker 2: was glad to see number one a coach holding the
Speaker 2: players who are taking the ice accountable for their play
Speaker 2: on the ice, and the fact that those same players
Speaker 2: responded with a great team effort against the Detroit Red Wings,
Speaker 2: who are not playing bad hockey themselves. The Bruins secured crucial,
Speaker 2: that crucial extra point in the standings to keep pace
Speaker 2: with other teams in their division. These same two teams
Speaker 2: will face each other again on Tuesday night, and it
Speaker 2: will be interesting to see what turn that game takes,
Speaker 2: as it is a bit of a rivalry to original
Speaker 2: six teams and two teams who need every point against
Speaker 2: each other that they can scrape together.
Speaker 1: The Bruins are heading to Detroit for the second part
Speaker 1: of a home and away with the Red Wings. Personally,
Speaker 1: I'd like to see Storm start swaying again, as he
Speaker 1: was clearly the difference maker in the last game. In fact,
Speaker 1: I'll let you in on a little preview of my
Speaker 1: Thanksgiving model that will be coming out later this week.
Speaker 1: Get ready to be totally shocked by this one, folks.
Speaker 1: Boston's elite goaltending has been hiding all manner of sins
Speaker 1: and they won't make the playoffs this year unless they
Speaker 1: get their penalties under control. It's literally going to be
Speaker 1: the thing that sinks them if they can't figure it out.
Speaker 1: And I don't mean that just as a fan watching
Speaker 1: the game. I mean that even mathematically. We've talked about
Speaker 1: them losing winnable games, and yes, that is also a
Speaker 1: pathway to the playoffs if they can figure those out.
Speaker 1: But the one that is the most infuriating is the penalties.
Speaker 1: It's all self inflicted. It will be the biggest reason
Speaker 1: they fall short if they can't get themselves under control.
Speaker 1: And I'm not saying they need to cut back on
Speaker 1: all of their penalties, Let's be honest, that's impossible with
Speaker 1: the target on Boston's back. But if they can reduce
Speaker 1: their penalties by just twenty percent and increase their PDO
Speaker 1: which is also known as their shooting percentage plus save percentage,
Speaker 1: i e. Shoot more, score more, just a little bit.
Speaker 1: Then they might actually make the playoffs, but we'll see.
