1:33 Speaker 2: gotten us to a point where we can't even exchange

1:37 Speaker 2: pleasantries because we're so flip and aggravated. And as we

1:42 Speaker 2: speak they are playing the Washington Capitals, who, in case

1:47 Speaker 2: you've all been hiding under a rock, alex Obechkin it

1:52 Speaker 2: it is now four goals away from breaking the great

1:57 Speaker 2: Ones record because he scored a power play goal already

2:02 Speaker 2: against our Boston Bruins and they find themselves down two

2:06 Speaker 2: to nothing already in the first period. Yeah, why change now, right?

5:10 Speaker 2: Bruins are hosting Women in Sports Night tonight.

5:16 Speaker 3: Yeah, yep, it's ah.

5:19 Speaker 4: I mentioned this in our last snapshot that they were

5:22 Speaker 4: hosting it this evening. They've got some notable women in

5:28 Speaker 4: the Boston area sports. For example, they're going to be

5:32 Speaker 4: giving a hat tip to the women of the Northeastern

5:36 Speaker 4: hockey team for winning the bean Pot this year. But

5:40 Speaker 4: I have to say, Maria, so we just finished women's

5:44 Speaker 4: history months. Why they waited until April first to do

5:50 Speaker 4: this the next month and then also April first to

5:55 Speaker 4: do this?

5:57 Speaker 3: Do you think that's a little bit weird. I don't

5:59 Speaker 3: know what to make of it.

6:00 Speaker 4: I try not to read into it, but like, really,

6:04 Speaker 4: you couldn't do this at the start of March. Maybe

6:08 Speaker 4: they were waiting for Sophia to come back. Maybe they

6:10 Speaker 4: were waiting for Sophia.

6:12 Speaker 3: But everything, you know, what you like, everything else, this sation.

6:21 Speaker 2: just it's been a bleep show from that from beginning.

6:25 Speaker 2: To end, so, you know, and maybe a lot of it,

6:30 Speaker 2: you know, in their defense, in the defense of the

6:32 Speaker 2: Boston Bruins, perhaps they were scheduling issues where they would

6:37 Speaker 2: not be able to get all of the women that

6:40 Speaker 2: they wanted to feature as part of tonight's festivities. So

6:46 Speaker 2: I'm you know, I'm going to give them just a

6:48 Speaker 2: little bit, just I'm not.

6:51 Speaker 3: I'm done. As we discussed last week, I'm done. I'm

6:58 Speaker 3: over it. I'm over so everything that comes out of that.

7:04 Speaker 2: Over this season, like it's a struggle to even do

7:09 Speaker 2: our snapshots, right, It's it's just a struggle. And you know,

7:14 Speaker 2: I can only hope that our listeners and supporters don't

7:20 Speaker 2: hear the struggle that that it's been this season.

7:27 Speaker 4: At this point, we still are feeling obligated to keep

7:32 Speaker 4: folks in the know about anything that is happening. But

7:36 Speaker 4: don't worry, we still have episodes throughout the summer that

7:41 Speaker 4: are going to be far more interesting than us sitting

7:45 Speaker 4: here either after every game or once a week for

7:49 Speaker 4: the regular pod and.

7:50 Speaker 6: Saying, well to get when when the Bruins, When the

7:53 Speaker 6: Bruins make all the big splashes and big signings that

7:58 Speaker 6: they're going to make this off seas so that the

8:02 Speaker 6: quote unquote retool that is now a rebuild that they

8:07 Speaker 6: want to do quickly, right right.

8:10 Speaker 2: If we believe everything that's coming out of Causeway Street,

8:14 Speaker 2: those two idiots.

8:16 Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well.

8:18 Speaker 4: I will say I know this isn't on the agenda,

8:21 Speaker 4: but I want to say it before I forget because

8:23 Speaker 4: as you know, as our regular listeners know, I love

8:27 Speaker 4: to listen to thirty two Thoughts to stay informed about

8:30 Speaker 4: what's happening on the you know, across the league, but

8:33 Speaker 4: also kind of in just a little higher level of

8:37 Speaker 4: NHL management stuff. And there's been some more discussion already

8:45 Speaker 4: about or at least the question of will we see

8:48 Speaker 4: now more offer sheets made in the off season this

8:53 Speaker 4: year after what happened last season between Saint Louis and

9:01 Speaker 4: the Edmonton Oilers, and how well that actually has worked

9:05 Speaker 4: out both for both teams. Honestly, I mean, I'm not

9:10 Speaker 4: saying that you know the players' names even right now

9:14 Speaker 4: currently escape me. But I'm not saying that those two

9:17 Speaker 4: players in Edmonton were contributing to any sort of negativity

9:21 Speaker 4: in the locker room. And certainly there was a lot

9:23 Speaker 4: of mix up and shake up just from regular free

9:27 Speaker 4: agency departures and arrivals. But it seems to have worked

9:33 Speaker 4: out fairly well for both sides. So the question was posed,

9:38 Speaker 4: and certainly, you know, thirty two thoughts is a little

9:42 Speaker 4: bit different than your average you know, sports talk radio.

9:46 Speaker 4: They're not necessarily going to just say something to either

9:50 Speaker 4: be controversial or to have a thought experiment. A lot

9:53 Speaker 4: of their stuff is informed, pretty well informed, and so

9:57 Speaker 4: the fact that this idea has come up does make

10:00 Speaker 4: me wonder with the potential jump in the cap, which again,

10:06 Speaker 4: like if nothing's official until it's official, right.

10:11 Speaker 3: Is that going to be another tool in.

10:15 Speaker 4: Cam and Don assuming they're so there, which they probably

10:18 Speaker 4: will be.

10:19 Speaker 2: But assuming they're not, they are not going anywhere they

10:24 Speaker 2: are in I know it, and I'm telling you this

10:29 Speaker 2: is what we're seeing is a playbook from the Harry

10:36 Speaker 2: Sinden days now, the difference being. The difference being is

10:42 Speaker 2: they when Harry Sindon was a general manager, there was

10:46 Speaker 2: a clear directive about not spending to the cap. Okay,

10:51 Speaker 2: that's where the difference is. However, the manner in which

10:57 Speaker 2: they conducted their business to me hasn't really changed much. Yeah,

11:03 Speaker 2: still shady as all f Yep.

11:10 Speaker 4: The only big the only difference I can really see

11:15 Speaker 4: because I agree with you, because we've seen a lot

11:18 Speaker 4: of the same behaviors, you know, for me over the

11:22 Speaker 4: last twenty five years or so, really starting to pay

11:25 Speaker 4: attention to any of this, and that's multitude of different

11:30 Speaker 4: you know, presidents and different gms, so kind of that

11:34 Speaker 4: approach to business has stayed the same. The only difference

11:37 Speaker 4: is the fact that the Boston Bruins are an extremely,

11:40 Speaker 4: extremely lucrative franchise at this point in a way that

11:45 Speaker 4: you know, they certainly were not thirty years ago, you know,

11:49 Speaker 4: I mean, just the game has changed, and then they

11:52 Speaker 4: being the.

11:53 Speaker 3: Franchise that they are, there's a lot of money there.

11:56 Speaker 4: So there's more motivation from a financial perspective to do

12:02 Speaker 4: what you can to be legitimately competitive, not because it's

12:06 Speaker 4: the right thing to do by fans because it makes.

12:11 Speaker 2: No because ownership finally woke up and realized we can

12:15 Speaker 2: make more money. You can make more money if we

12:18 Speaker 2: put a competitive team on the ice.

12:22 Speaker 3: Okay, quote unquote sold out right.

12:25 Speaker 2: I am still of the mindset that this ownership group,

12:31 Speaker 2: whoever it is, I know it's the Jacob's children or

12:35 Speaker 2: you know, still still JJ at the top. They are

12:39 Speaker 2: not committed to winning a Stanley Cup, and I just

12:44 Speaker 2: don't believe it.

12:46 Speaker 3: I just don't believe it because.

12:49 Speaker 2: They get their reward, okay, and they've been getting their

12:53 Speaker 2: reward simply by putting together competitive and good teams. I'm

12:59 Speaker 2: not gonna take out away. It's been a dynamic run.

13:03 Speaker 2: It's not a dynasty, but it's been a dynamic run,

13:07 Speaker 2: and it's been one of the most successful.

13:09 Speaker 3: It's been an era for sure.

13:11 Speaker 2: For sure.

13:12 Speaker 3: Yeah, but you.

13:13 Speaker 2: Have fallen short numerous numerous times. Yes, and at some

13:22 Speaker 2: point you have to point your fingers at the people

13:28 Speaker 2: who are making those decisions. Yeah, and who might they be?

13:34 Speaker 2: My friend, who might they be?

13:36 Speaker 4: It's our favorites, Don and Cam So anyways, my point being,

13:42 Speaker 4: there might be a third potential way that this team

13:48 Speaker 4: could acquire players if they are trying to build quickly.

13:55 Speaker 3: That is another way that prior to last season was.

14:00 Speaker 4: It was never against the rules, obviously because Saint Louis

14:03 Speaker 4: did it.

14:05 Speaker 2: But it's not a common occurrence. It's one of those

14:07 Speaker 2: gentlemen agreements creations. But it seems like maybe makes it

14:14 Speaker 2: broken for us to cover right and one exactly because

14:18 Speaker 2: I think the drama of it, yes, is very very interesting.

14:23 Speaker 3: Yeah, and if opens sometimes it could be.

14:26 Speaker 4: Juicy again, right, I mean, nobody expected it, and it

14:29 Speaker 4: opens up now a fourth venue for acquiring players. Besides,

14:34 Speaker 4: you know, once the Bruins season is over, they are

14:37 Speaker 4: allowed to start trading.

14:39 Speaker 3: They probably won't because half.

14:42 Speaker 4: The league obviously is ineligible to trade, so they might wait,

14:47 Speaker 4: just like we saw the big Olmark trade happening, you

14:50 Speaker 4: know at the Stanley Cup Final. But there's the trade, uh,

14:54 Speaker 4: there's the free agency signing, there's the this and then

15:00 Speaker 4: and you've got your you know, restrictive free agents, so

15:06 Speaker 4: the qualifying offers as well, so which is not quite

15:09 Speaker 4: the same thing as how you get uh, unrestricted free agents,

15:14 Speaker 4: because the unrestricteds come from the outside. The restricteds are

15:18 Speaker 4: basically who you're going to keep you're going to keep around.

15:21 Speaker 4: So some food for thought and something to think about

15:24 Speaker 4: and consider as we move into our post season coverage

15:30 Speaker 4: of maybe who we would be interested in seeing get

15:34 Speaker 4: kind of nabbed by Boston by.

15:36 Speaker 2: Boston, you know, and we'll and we'll you know, we'll

15:39 Speaker 2: we'll likely dedicate some episodes to to these very topics

15:46 Speaker 2: of conversation because frankly, folks, you know, after the next

15:50 Speaker 2: couple of weeks, we're not going to be talking about

15:52 Speaker 2: the Bruins playing anymore hockey because you know, they they

15:56 Speaker 2: keep falling further and further behind. It would take, you know,

16:02 Speaker 2: a miracle of epic proportions for them to even claw

16:07 Speaker 2: their way back into any type of potential playoff scenario.

16:12 Speaker 2: And honestly, at this juncture with the roster that we're

16:17 Speaker 2: currently seeing, do we really even want to go there

16:23 Speaker 2: at this point in time. So anyways, we'll get to

16:28 Speaker 2: all of that, But back to our NHL news. I

16:32 Speaker 2: wanted to touch on a very classy gesture that Alex

16:38 Speaker 2: Ovechkin made. I think it was in the game last

16:41 Speaker 2: week where the Capitals played the Minnesota Wild.

16:48 Speaker 3: Marc Andre Fleury was in net and he was actually

16:52 Speaker 3: I think he backed up.

16:53 Speaker 2: Oh okay, regardless, regardless, they've had epic battles in the

16:58 Speaker 2: in the past, have mark Andre's Flurry's tenure as a

17:03 Speaker 2: Pittsburgh Penguin. And when the game ended, as Washington Capitol

17:10 Speaker 2: players were skating off the ice and heading to the

17:14 Speaker 2: locker room, Alex Ovechkin called his teammates all back out

17:19 Speaker 2: on the ice so that they could salute Marc Andre Fleury,

17:27 Speaker 2: which I thought was pretty freaking classy.

17:31 Speaker 3: On the absolutely, We've seen a couple of.

17:37 Speaker 4: Special tributes to Flower during his kind of farewell tour,

17:43 Speaker 4: but this one I thought was particularly.

17:48 Speaker 3: Moving and classy. Like you said, not only.

17:54 Speaker 4: Is there a well known rivalry between Flower and Ov

17:59 Speaker 4: from the Flowers days in Pittsburgh, but actually I was

18:05 Speaker 4: also recently reminded that the year that the Capitols won

18:09 Speaker 4: the Stanley Cup, they played against the Vegas Golden Knights,

18:12 Speaker 4: and who was in.

18:13 Speaker 3: Net Marc Andre Flurry forgot about. There was a famous moment.

18:21 Speaker 4: Before one of the games, and there was warm ups

18:23 Speaker 4: and they kind of were a little bit in each

18:26 Speaker 4: other's faces and not in a playful way, in a

18:29 Speaker 4: pretty genuinely, uh you know, competitive, you know, intimidation tactic way,

18:37 Speaker 4: and so I thought that was pretty fantastic. I think

18:41 Speaker 4: that that's one of the things I love about this game,

18:43 Speaker 4: and I don't think you see in other sports where

18:47 Speaker 4: you can recognize another player even if you think that

18:53 Speaker 4: they are your greatest rival or you know they've always

18:57 Speaker 4: played against your rival and in your rivalry, and you

19:01 Speaker 4: hate him almost every other day of the year. But

19:04 Speaker 4: greatness recognizes greatness and I'm actually kind of a little

19:11 Speaker 4: disappointed that we haven't seen more of that for Mark

19:15 Speaker 4: Herey Flurry this year.

19:17 Speaker 3: But it's it's.

19:20 Speaker 2: I think a bit, you know, to start to start

19:24 Speaker 2: the season right, and if they're doing their you know,

19:26 Speaker 2: second go round with teams, I think in this instance,

19:30 Speaker 2: it you know, might have been not it might have

19:34 Speaker 2: been their their first time, you know. And and maybe

19:36 Speaker 2: Obechkin realizing too, you know, as he's getting closer to.

19:42 Speaker 3: It could be his end too. I would on his.

19:44 Speaker 2: End too, right, And so he's probably saying to himself,

19:48 Speaker 2: you know what, I'm gonna take the opportunity now, right

19:53 Speaker 2: now to show my respect to this to this guy

19:57 Speaker 2: that I've had epic battles with over over the years.

20:02 Speaker 2: So good good on him, and good on him for

20:05 Speaker 2: you know, taking the opportunity to kind of to to

20:09 Speaker 2: that's a teaching moment as far as I'm concerned for

20:12 Speaker 2: maybe some of the younger guys on that that Capital's team.

20:17 Speaker 3: So yes, you good on him.

20:18 Speaker 2: That's a good that's a good leader right there. Gee,

20:22 Speaker 2: I wish we had one of those guys. Oh wait,

20:24 Speaker 2: gave him all way, We gave him away, easy come,

20:29 Speaker 2: easy go.

20:30 Speaker 3: Well, apparently they're easily replaceable.

20:33 Speaker 2: And what Christ we we had a firing.

20:39 Speaker 3: We had a firing. We did we did?

20:41 Speaker 2: Oh I missed this friend, John Twittorella.

20:44 Speaker 3: Oh not on our team.

20:46 Speaker 4: No, I thought you were breaking fantastic.

20:51 Speaker 2: Christ. No, we had a firing in the least.

20:56 Speaker 4: Yeah, So this has been an interesting situation store right

21:00 Speaker 4: where he comes out and basically says, yeah, I'm kind

21:03 Speaker 4: of tied of coaching this team or something to that effect, and.

21:07 Speaker 2: Yeah, it might have had an issue with a player

21:10 Speaker 2: and who just yeah, I don't get it.

21:16 Speaker 3: I don't get it.

21:16 Speaker 2: But the writing was on the wall right because Philadelphia

21:21 Speaker 2: was in a bit of a tail spin as as

21:25 Speaker 2: the Bruins have been in.

21:27 Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think you know, anybody who's kind of

21:32 Speaker 4: followed Tortorella's career over I think he's been around for

21:39 Speaker 4: twenty five years as well. Actually, I think it was

21:42 Speaker 4: exactly twenty five years ago when he got hired in Tampa.

21:48 Speaker 4: You know, he he has a very specific set of skills.

21:53 Speaker 4: He's kind of like the Liam Neeson of UH coaches.

21:57 Speaker 3: He's a very specific set.

21:58 Speaker 4: Of skills, and you high him for one of two reasons, right, Primarily,

22:04 Speaker 4: most of the time.

22:06 Speaker 3: He's hired because your team is close to taking.

22:10 Speaker 4: That next step maybe you know, really making a genuine

22:15 Speaker 4: run for it.

22:16 Speaker 3: And he's been very successful in that case.

22:20 Speaker 4: Right.

22:20 Speaker 3: You think about the.

22:22 Speaker 4: First Cup that Tampa Bay won way back in the

22:26 Speaker 4: early two thousands, that was his team, right, he was

22:30 Speaker 4: brought in at that point. Look at Columbus, you know,

22:34 Speaker 4: they made it real close and then it kind of

22:37 Speaker 4: threw wrench and all of that.

22:39 Speaker 2: I mean, they just they dumped the Tampa Bay Lightning

22:45 Speaker 2: in four straight. I know it was.

22:47 Speaker 3: It was a beautiful thing to watch.

22:50 Speaker 4: So you know, he he comes in for that purpose.

22:53 Speaker 4: And he's famously known for.

23:01 Speaker 3: Not really being.

23:02 Speaker 4: The right coach for super young guys, which makes sense, right,

23:05 Speaker 4: Like these guys. You know, when you're a young player,

23:08 Speaker 4: you think about when you were a young adult, you

23:10 Speaker 4: you still didn't really know how to truly navigate the

23:12 Speaker 4: politics at the workplace, that kind of thing. You tend

23:16 Speaker 4: to be a little bit more sensitive, you take things

23:18 Speaker 4: more personally when you've got all this office and and

23:22 Speaker 4: today's young athlete.

23:24 Speaker 2: And it's a very different time, different times. Yeah, not

23:29 Speaker 2: did I with all of it. I don't agree with

23:32 Speaker 2: all of it. I think it's different some degree. You

23:35 Speaker 2: need to have a little bit of a no nonsense,

23:39 Speaker 2: right yeah, coaching style.

23:41 Speaker 4: But and so the other reason that he's brought in,

23:44 Speaker 4: and this surprised me that it's actually a little bit

23:47 Speaker 4: less frequently, is he's brought in when the team is

23:51 Speaker 4: a complete hot mess. I don't know, because I don't

23:56 Speaker 4: think I was really paying that close attention to the

24:00 Speaker 4: situation with the Rangers when he was brought in there.

24:03 Speaker 4: I think they thought they were closer than they actually were,

24:06 Speaker 4: and they actually were.

24:07 Speaker 3: More of a hot mess.

24:09 Speaker 4: So I think that kind of was a situation there.

24:11 Speaker 4: But with Philadelphia, they definitely brought him in because they

24:15 Speaker 4: wanted to kind of really set things straight and really

24:17 Speaker 4: set a tone, and they were moving in that direction.

24:22 Speaker 4: You know. I think he very famously is the type

24:26 Speaker 4: of coach and the type.

24:27 Speaker 3: Of person we all know, somebody like this who if.

24:31 Speaker 4: You're in, you're in, and he will move mountains for you,

24:35 Speaker 4: he will kill for you, he will do whatever. You know.

24:39 Speaker 2: Scious about this one thing that everyone across the league

24:42 Speaker 2: got anyone that has spoken of him or played for him,

24:46 Speaker 2: said he cares about his players.

24:49 Speaker 3: Famously deflex from the players those post game they have

24:55 Speaker 3: people get angry at him like that's huge, that's actually

24:58 Speaker 3: really huge.

25:00 Speaker 4: But if you're on the outside, your life is going

25:02 Speaker 4: to be help and I get that. I understand that,

25:06 Speaker 4: and that's where probably it was. My assumption is it

25:11 Speaker 4: was a combination of maybe Philadelphia's management wasn't doing enough

25:16 Speaker 4: on their end to bring in more new guys after

25:20 Speaker 4: he kind of weeded out the guys who weren't working

25:23 Speaker 4: super hard, because that's the kind of coach he is.

28:48 Speaker 4: and it's getting a lot more interesting the things that

37:33 Speaker 2: worked so hard on his or her crack that gets

37:36 Speaker 2: to the professional level would ever allow that thought to

37:41 Speaker 2: enter into their head. So this isn't about tanking. This

37:46 Speaker 2: to me is about your season has been a fucking

37:51 Speaker 2: disaster from one We just need to be right. Bringing

37:57 Speaker 2: him back isn't going to change. He's not going to

38:00 Speaker 2: save anything at this point in time. And Cam and

38:06 Speaker 2: Don have made such a mess that I think the

38:11 Speaker 2: locker room was not in good standing to begin with.

38:17 Speaker 4: It's abysmal now, but get on the brutal now.

38:25 Speaker 2: And if I'm Charlie McAvoy and I'm David Pasternak, when

39:38 Speaker 4: my understanding, it's a two sided almost like performance evaluation.

39:49 Speaker 3: my understanding of what it is.

39:50 Speaker 4: And I think you know, allegedly this is how they

44:51 Speaker 4: is a much more public facing figure for Boston, but

44:55 Speaker 4: both he and Cam, unlike a lot of other sorts

45:00 Speaker 4: team gms and presidents like, they don't go willy nilly

45:08 Speaker 4: to the press or to the radio. So the fact

45:12 Speaker 4: that he spoke with two members of the Boston Globe

45:17 Speaker 4: and to hear some of the things that he's said.

45:22 Speaker 4: I think you're one hundred percent right in the fact

45:26 Speaker 4: that this is very likely some sort of pr management

45:32 Speaker 4: preparation for when the axe finally comes down on this

45:37 Speaker 4: team's season. I don't know to what paint him in

45:42 Speaker 4: this light of I'm so sad that these guys are

45:46 Speaker 4: just not getting it done. Okay, well, you've just set

45:51 Speaker 4: the house on fire and you gave your firefighters thymbols of.

45:57 Speaker 2: Water, and you know what, maybe maybe okay, nobody has

46:02 Speaker 2: sympathy for you, Cam And you know what, are they

46:10 Speaker 2: to be here? Do these players want I.

46:24 Speaker 4: watching the Bruins play compared to teams like Anaheim and

46:29 Speaker 4: San Jose who have arguably objectively sucked all season, but

46:37 Speaker 4: they're having fun, like they like each other. You can

46:41 Speaker 4: tell that what the game that they're playing out there,

46:44 Speaker 4: you are the Boston Bruins. You you are the Boston Bruins.

46:48 Speaker 4: You went to the West Coast.

46:51 Speaker 2: And you got Sharks beat you, and the Anaheim Ducks

46:57 Speaker 2: beat you you were on an eight game losing street,

47:01 Speaker 2: and now your president is going to soft landing spots

47:05 Speaker 2: right to what shame you into playing harder? And then

47:10 Speaker 2: you have then you have the balls, yeh to say

47:14 Speaker 2: everything is on the table.

47:16 Speaker 4: Wait wait, wait, so are you threatening them or are

47:19 Speaker 4: you trying to motivate them with because you've already you've.
