Bruins' Ugly Win is Still a Win | Snap Shot Episode 56
Liner notes
🎙️The Boston Bruins squeaked out another home win; this time a 4–3 OT victory over the Buffalo Sabres, thanks to Marat Khusnutdinov's first NHL goal and Joonas Korpisalo’s steady play in net. With Korpi starting back-to-back games, Marco Sturm may be sending a message: perform, and you stay in.It wasn’t pretty. Boston was outshot 40–22 and continues to flirt with disaster on the penalty kill and power play. BUT a win is a win. Mason Lohrei remained scratched as Sturm stuck with the hot lineup, while Hampus Lindholm returned to the ice fresh off becoming a new dad.
Now, with Carolina coming to town and Elias Lindholm’s status uncertain, the Bruins’ defense will have to tighten up fast or risk another matinee meltdown.

Speaker 1: The Bruins managed to pull off and overtime win on
Speaker 1: Thursday night against the Sabers, with Corpus Sollo a net
Speaker 1: for his first ever back to back with the team.
Speaker 1: The Bees have been eking out wins at home this week,
Speaker 1: but they face another big challenge on Saturday. Will it
Speaker 1: be another positive game or a bloodbath? This is a
Speaker 1: Bruins tape to tape snapshot.
Speaker 2: The Boston Bruins have won two games in a row
Speaker 2: after beating the Buffalo Sabers at the TD Garden on
Speaker 2: Thursday night by a score of four to three. It
Speaker 2: took overtime to get the win, but the Bruins secured
Speaker 2: a much needed two points. The game started a little
Speaker 2: bit on the interesting side in that Hampus lind home
Speaker 2: and his girlfriend welcomed in a new baby just that day,
Speaker 2: so there was speculation about whether or not Hampus would play.
Speaker 2: He did play, Congratulations to the new dad, and interestingly,
Speaker 2: Jonis Corposalo got the start in net against the Sabers,
Speaker 2: which had him playing back to back game and that
Speaker 2: to me begs the question of was Marco sending a
Speaker 2: passive aggressive message of some sort to Jeremy Swayman and
Speaker 2: others on this team. I e. That message being you
Speaker 2: perform well and you're going to stay and be in
Speaker 2: this lineup. If so, I'm here for that because I
Speaker 2: think it's time to start sending messages of that kind.
Speaker 2: Mason Lauri also sat out another game, and I want
Speaker 2: to give Marco Sturm credit for sticking with a lineup
Speaker 2: that is performing well and that is getting you much
Speaker 2: needed wins and points. The game itself was not pretty,
Speaker 2: but I think we don't don't particularly care about pretty
Speaker 2: at this point. We care about use. And the Buffalo
Speaker 2: Sabers are a team that weren't going to go away.
Speaker 2: Even though the Bruins took a three to one lead
Speaker 2: and going into the third period, Buffalo battled back to
Speaker 2: tie the game at three three and the overtime winner
Speaker 2: came off the stick of Maret Ustadinov, who scored his
Speaker 2: first goal as a Boston Bruin. And he couldn't have
Speaker 2: picked a better time to for that goal, and he
Speaker 2: was thinking shoot all the way and it was a
Speaker 2: beautiful snapshot. The goal was assisted by Fraser Mitten. So
Speaker 2: what does this tell us, Folks that in the overtime period,
Speaker 2: Merritt and Fraser were on the ice with Hampis lind
Speaker 2: Home in a three on three situation. So again credit
Speaker 2: to Marco Sturm for taking a flyer on the young
Speaker 2: Stirs in that overtime period. As I said, the game
Speaker 2: wasn't pretty. The Bruins managed only five shots on goal
Speaker 2: in the first period. The total shots on goal were
Speaker 2: totally skewed. Buffalo had forty, Boston had twenty two and
Speaker 2: Jonnis Corporsalo was once again excellent in net. And I
Speaker 2: will be curious to see how Marco Stern makes a
Speaker 2: decision on who will take the net against the Carolina
Speaker 2: Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon. While I would say be bold
Speaker 2: and go with Jonas, I have a sneaky suspicion that
Speaker 2: the net will go to Jeremy Swayman on Saturday afternoon. Look,
Speaker 2: as much as you know, I want to give credit
Speaker 2: to the Bruins for the win, and I will give
Speaker 2: credit for the win. There are still lots of areas
Speaker 2: that need to be cleaned up. The Bruins are still
Speaker 2: taking way too many penalties during the course of a game.
Speaker 2: The penalty kill was good on Thursday night, keeping Buffalo
Speaker 2: to one of five. The power play is still not clicking.
Speaker 2: The Bruins went one for four on the power play
Speaker 2: all and all, though it was a victory, marcos Strom
Speaker 2: was forced to make some adjustments in the lineup when
Speaker 2: Elias lind Hoome went down with an injury of some sort.
Speaker 2: We don't know what the actual injury is at this point,
Speaker 2: or whether or not it's going to keep him out
Speaker 2: of the lineup for any period of time, but that
Speaker 2: is something to look out for going into the game
Speaker 2: against the Carolina Hurricanes. Hopefully the Bruins will have an
Speaker 2: update on Elias lind Home sometime on Friday.
Speaker 1: The Sabers had a ridiculous forty shots on goal game,
Speaker 1: and for other teams, I might blame that on a
Speaker 1: very leaky Bruins defense, but the Sabers haven't had fewer
Speaker 1: than thirty shots on goal per game since October fifteenth.
Speaker 1: The Canes come to town, and this is another team that
Speaker 1: has averaged thirty three shots on goal over the course
Speaker 1: of ten games. The Bruins better be ready for this,
Speaker 1: especially if their defense is still on shaky legs. Like Boston.
Speaker 1: The Canes had a key player exit the game due
Speaker 1: to injury in their game last night against the Islanders,
Speaker 1: Seth Jarvis, a formidable foe to say the least, took
Speaker 1: a blocked shot to the foot and exited the game.
Speaker 1: Early details are still unclear about his prognosis, but it
Speaker 1: wouldn't be a surprise if he misses Saturday's matinee in Boston.
Speaker 1: The other significant concern for Boston when it comes to
Speaker 1: this Carolina team is the fact that Carolina is still
Speaker 1: one of the top teams in the league, especially in
Speaker 1: terms of goal differential. They took a dip with their
Speaker 1: two straight losses over the last week, but they are
Speaker 1: back up to a nine goal differential in all situations
Speaker 1: compared to Boston's negative four. In fact, Boston hasn't had
Speaker 1: a positive goal differential since October sixteenth, a stat that
Speaker 1: apparently Morgan Geeky seems to take personal offense to. With
Speaker 1: Jarvis likely out, Stan covin Ajo and Blake are going
Speaker 1: to have to step up and fill in for their
Speaker 1: up and coming sniper. In fact, there could be a
Speaker 1: significant hole to fill, as Jarvis is not only highly
Speaker 1: skilled in scoring, he is prolific. He's got seven goals
Speaker 1: already this season so far, compared to only three apiece
Speaker 1: for both stan Coven and Aho. In addition to a
Speaker 1: key offensive piece missing, Carolina is also down to big
Speaker 1: defencemen in Shing Gostis Bear and care miller. Jacob Slavin
Speaker 1: could be back on the ice for this game against
Speaker 1: Boston based on his ir injury date, but who knows.
Speaker 1: I'm curious as to who the Canes will also put
Speaker 1: in net. With kochek Kov out for the foreseeable future,
Speaker 1: it's down to Freddie Anderson and former Bruins prospect Brandon
Speaker 1: Bussey to man the net. Bussy got the win on
Speaker 1: Long Island yesterday, but he's also been playing almost an
Speaker 1: even number of games compared to Anderson, and he's got
Speaker 1: better stat lines. For now, Bussy has a nine to
Speaker 1: sixteen safe percentage and two point twenty five goals against average,
Speaker 1: while Anderson holds an eight ninety two safe percentage and
Speaker 1: three point one to one goals against average. And speaking
Speaker 1: of backups coming for your job, Corposalo showed that he
Speaker 1: has what it takes to be a reliable goalie who
Speaker 1: can give the team in front of him a chance
Speaker 1: at winning. His stats are not adequately reflective of the
Speaker 1: importance that he's played in games so far this season
Speaker 1: with timely saves, he has shown a great deal of
Speaker 1: value to this team. In spite of his frightening e
Speaker 1: eighty two save percentage and three point four nine goals
Speaker 1: against average. Swayman's outing in Ottawa really did a number
Speaker 1: on his stats, putting him at eight eighty six for
Speaker 1: a safe percentage and three point four y five for
Speaker 1: goals against average. Talk about a spooky Halloween. I'm honestly
Speaker 1: not sure who's going to be in goal on Saturday
Speaker 1: since Storm isn't afraid to hurt some feelings. Make sure
