The Bruins Hit Reset and It Finally Looks Right | Snap Shots Episode 57
Liner notes
🎙️The Boston Bruins finally played a full 60 minutes and it showed. In their most complete game of the season, the Bruins beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 at TD Garden for their third straight win. Jeremy Swayman silenced any hint of a goalie controversy with a sharp performance, while Casey Mittelstadt and Viktor Arvidsson powered the offense in the third. For the first time in weeks, the Bruins looked like a team with structure, discipline, and identity. McAvoy and Zadorov were wrecking balls on the back end, Khusnutdinov held his own on the top line, and Sturm’s adjustments are finally paying off. But with 11 games to go before Thanksgiving and a brutal stretch ahead, can Boston build on this momentum, or will fatigue and inconsistency creep back in?

Speaker 1: Stop the presses because the Boston Bruins are a five
Speaker 1: hundred team right now. For the first time in weeks,
Speaker 1: with their first solid sixty minute effort on Saturday afternoon,
Speaker 1: Boston showed the league that they do have the ability
Speaker 1: to play against one of the toughest, albeit most whitebread
Speaker 1: and boring of teams out there this season. This team
Speaker 1: has effectively restarted their season, but with only eleven games
Speaker 1: to go until Thanksgiving, can they position themselves into a
Speaker 1: playoff spot this far out? This is a Bruins tape
Speaker 1: to tape snapshot.
Speaker 2: The Boston Bruins secured their third win in a row
Speaker 2: after defeating the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon at the
Speaker 2: Teedy Garden by a score of two to one. This
Speaker 2: was probably the Bruins' most complete and best game that
Speaker 2: they played of the season, from start to finish. Were
Speaker 2: fast and physical for the most part, with the third
Speaker 2: period likely being their best period of hockey that I've
Speaker 2: seen them play since the season started. And for those
Speaker 2: of us who thought there might be a goalie controversy brewing,
Speaker 2: Marco Stern put a stop to that by giving the
Speaker 2: net to Jeremy Swayman and Swayman was excellent in this
Speaker 2: game against the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes are a legit solid
Speaker 2: hockey team with a relentless for check, and while that
Speaker 2: four check gave the Bruins a lot of trouble for
Speaker 2: most of the second period, come the third period the
Speaker 2: Bruins were able to get a couple of goals pasted
Speaker 2: Freddie Anderson, with the first one coming off the stick
Speaker 2: of Casey Middlstat after a great play with Charlie McAvoy
Speaker 2: coming in down low who took a pass from Pavel
Speaker 2: Zaka and Casey Middlstat was there to put the pucket
Speaker 2: in and beat Freddy first score of one to nothing,
Speaker 2: and then the Bruins were able to shortly after that
Speaker 2: extend that lead on a killer shot by Victor Arvidson
Speaker 2: after an assist from Casey Middlestat that made it two
Speaker 2: to nothing. Carolina tried to make the game interesting in
Speaker 2: the third period by pulling Freddy Anderson with about three
Speaker 2: minutes left in the period, and Nikishin just teed a
Speaker 2: shot up that blasted by Jeremy Swayman. But the Bruins
Speaker 2: stood tall and won a game against a very good team,
Speaker 2: and that was probably the first game where we finally
Speaker 2: saw the semblance of this defensive structure that the Bruins
Speaker 2: have been talking about and wanting to implement. The Bruins
Speaker 2: were without Elias lint Holme for this game, but Marco
Speaker 2: Stern was able to make some lineup adjustments and it
Speaker 2: Maret Hustadinov being elevated up to the first line and
Speaker 2: Mark Castelik was moved up to the third line. And
Speaker 2: credit to Mark Castelk, he has been working hard. And
Speaker 2: that line of Castellik, Janneau and Minton was very effective
Speaker 2: against the Carolina Hurricanes. And Charlie McAvoy and Nikita Zadorov
Speaker 2: are absolute wrecking balls playing together. They leveled so many
Speaker 2: hits against the Carolina Hurricanes. It was a thing of
Speaker 2: beauty to watch. And I'm begging you, Marco, please leave
Speaker 2: those two guys together. All in all, it was a
Speaker 2: solid team effort from top to bottom, which is all
Speaker 2: we have been wanting to see from the Boston Bruins.
Speaker 1: Boston gets a tiny rest this weekend after a series
Speaker 1: of wins at home, before they go down to Long
Speaker 1: Island for the first of three games and six followed
Speaker 1: by a grueling stretch of games every other day from
Speaker 1: November eleventh through November twenty ninth. The Bruins also seem
Speaker 1: to be cursed with having the most games under their
Speaker 1: belts compared to all the other teams at any given
Speaker 1: point this year. Let's hope the coaching staff can manage
Speaker 1: the player as well on and off the ice. The
Speaker 1: Islanders are pretty much in the same boat as Boston
Speaker 1: right now, but with three games in hand. Unlike Boston, however,
Speaker 1: the Aisles are existing on the border of bad and fun,
Speaker 1: meaning it's the Wild West out there on the ice
Speaker 1: when they're playing. They've dipped in terms of their goal production,
Speaker 1: dropping to a negative two in that regard, but they
Speaker 1: do play the Blue Jackets at home before hosting Boston
Speaker 1: on Tuesday. They tend to also win and lose in spurts,
Speaker 1: and they just beat the Capitals three to one on
Speaker 1: Halloween in Washington. The Bruins will have to keep close
Speaker 1: tabs on Heinemann and Horvat, two snipers who have pulled
Speaker 1: away from the rest of this game. On the Islanders. Horvat,
Speaker 1: Heineman and Palmery lead the team in goals in all
Speaker 1: situations with seven, five and four respectively. Sorokin has played
Speaker 1: eight games thus far and has had a less than
Speaker 1: stellar season as well. Like Swayman, his safe percentage is
Speaker 1: below nine hundred at eight seventy seven, and his goals
Speaker 1: against Daverage is three point four. Considering he was the
Speaker 1: goalie and net against Boston in Boston on October twenty eighth,
Speaker 1: it is a possibility that we will see backup goalie
Speaker 1: David Ritch. He holds a nine hundred safe percentage but
Speaker 1: a similar three point three four goals against Daveradge. The
Speaker 1: last matchup between these two teams also saw eight penalties
Speaker 1: doled out, something that Boston needs to make sure doesn't
Speaker 1: happen again. Jeremy Swayman seems to have hit his stride,
Speaker 1: but then again, like the rest of this team, there
Speaker 1: have been good and bad days, so let's hope we
Speaker 1: see him standing on his head again out on the Island.
