1:19 Speaker 1: all right. You know, we are one week away from

1:24 Speaker 1: the end of this terrible, terrible season, so I'm looking

1:30 Speaker 1: forward to that.

1:31 Speaker 3: You and I were just talking off air about the

1:35 Speaker 3: fact that we just feel that this season has worn

1:40 Speaker 3: us down. As much as we have had to talk

1:45 Speaker 3: about with respect to the team, not a lot of

1:50 Speaker 3: it has been positive conversation because and you know, we try.

1:57 Speaker 3: We I think we try hard to look at you know,

2:01 Speaker 3: the good, the bad, and the ugly where it comes to,

2:05 Speaker 3: you know, the hockey team that we're talking about, which

2:08 Speaker 3: is the Boston Bruins. But man, oh Man, has this

2:12 Speaker 3: year been a freaking struggle to find continuous positive and

2:20 Speaker 3: silver linings. I don't know how you feel, but that's

2:23 Speaker 3: how I feel.

2:25 Speaker 1: You know, as much as I enjoyed last night's game

2:29 Speaker 1: against the Devils, I was also just irritated because we

2:35 Speaker 1: didn't get to see that kind of fun hockey very often,

2:41 Speaker 1: you know. And not to discredit the Bruins win, because

2:46 Speaker 1: you know, they were just they were all over the place.

2:48 Speaker 1: They were a very high energy. It was highly entertaining

2:52 Speaker 1: to watch. But you know, the Devils are probably already

2:58 Speaker 1: thinking ahead to the postseason. We've seen this countless times

3:04 Speaker 1: with our own Boston Bruins, where they're like they and

3:07 Speaker 1: many other top teams are just kind of barely making

3:12 Speaker 1: it to the finish line because it's really hard to

3:17 Speaker 1: stay you know, present in the here and now if

3:19 Speaker 1: you're a team going into the playoffs, and a lot

3:21 Speaker 1: of those teams also start to do some load management

3:25 Speaker 1: with some of their older players, and so they may

3:27 Speaker 1: have you know, new folks up and so the team

3:30 Speaker 1: might not do quite as well. So not to completely

3:33 Speaker 1: take away from the Bruins win, but in my mind

3:37 Speaker 1: there's an asterisk and that makes it exhausting because it's like, ah,

3:41 Speaker 1: this is what we could have had well.

3:43 Speaker 3: And you know, it seems to me that in some instances,

3:49 Speaker 3: the game against the Hurricanes and the game against the Devils,

3:54 Speaker 3: some players finally are understanding if we want to stay

4:01 Speaker 3: a part of this team or even find our way

4:04 Speaker 3: to potentially another team. Because my hope is that the

4:09 Speaker 3: roster will look vastly different in the upcoming season. I

4:13 Speaker 3: mean it already does look best and they realize that,

4:19 Speaker 3: you know, we do need to have a sense of

4:23 Speaker 3: whatever work ethic. I don't want to say a sense

4:25 Speaker 3: of pride, because I think all professional athletes go into

4:30 Speaker 3: their craft with a sense of pride, or they wouldn't

4:33 Speaker 3: be professional athletes. You know, where a team is taking

4:38 Speaker 3: a flyer on them, but you know the fact that

4:41 Speaker 3: they're you know, maybe reached there.

4:43 Speaker 1: I'm sick and tired of losing, over overload, whatever the

4:49 Speaker 1: case may be.

4:50 Speaker 3: If if we at least finish the season with being

4:54 Speaker 3: mildly entertained as opposed to extremely frustrated.

5:01 Speaker 1: I'll take that as a way to end the season. So,

5:05 Speaker 1: you know, usually, folks, we have a litany of items

5:09 Speaker 1: on the menu for our sit the table. But unfortunately,

5:14 Speaker 1: because we now know for a fact that in the

5:19 Speaker 1: same breath that the Bruins beat a very good Carolina

5:23 Speaker 1: Hurricanes team on Saturday night, they were eliminated officially from

5:28 Speaker 1: the playoffs that same night. So we don't have a

5:33 Speaker 1: lot of silver linings to hang our hats on. But

5:39 Speaker 1: we are going to focus a good amount of our

5:43 Speaker 1: conversation tonight on David pastronach because he has been since

5:50 Speaker 1: January one, the one, and I don't want to say

5:55 Speaker 1: the only, but he has been unable, unstoppable like what

6:03 Speaker 1: he has done. And I know you have statistics to

6:08 Speaker 1: back this up, so I'm looking forward to hearing those statistics,

6:13 Speaker 1: because you know, you're the stats person, and I go

6:16 Speaker 1: by what my sixty five year old eyes show me

6:20 Speaker 1: when I watch these games. And folks, we are so

6:25 Speaker 1: we as in fans of the Boston Bruins, are so

6:29 Speaker 1: goddamn lucky to have a player of this caliber who

6:34 Speaker 1: is going to be hopefully a part of this franchise

6:40 Speaker 1: for the entirety of his career. Yep, do I trust management? Not?

6:46 Speaker 3: No, no, But that's a story for another day. But

6:52 Speaker 3: when I think back, just a mirror a handful of

6:56 Speaker 3: years ago, not even that long, listening to some of

7:00 Speaker 3: the sports talk radio people here in the Boston area

7:06 Speaker 3: talking about David Pasternak being a liability because he turned

7:12 Speaker 3: the puckle for so much, and I think back.

7:16 Speaker 1: On how you all sound so stupid? Like you sound

7:22 Speaker 1: you sounded stupid then, And I know a lot of

7:25 Speaker 1: it is talk radio fodder, right, getting angry purpose the same.

7:31 Speaker 3: People that for years were saying we need a legitimate

7:36 Speaker 3: gull scara, Well you have one, and then you wanted

7:40 Speaker 3: to talk about trading him because okay, he he was

7:45 Speaker 3: turning the puck over because he has you want him

7:48 Speaker 3: to have the puck on his stick.

7:51 Speaker 1: Yeah.

7:51 Speaker 3: And a prime example of the intangibles that he brings

7:57 Speaker 3: Pasta does to the ice was the goal that Morgan

8:01 Speaker 3: Geeky scored last night for his I believe his thirtieth goal. Yes,

8:07 Speaker 3: David pastronach had two guys on him, two New Jersey

8:13 Speaker 3: Devil's players on him, and he still was able to

8:17 Speaker 3: make the pass to Morgan geek while there were two

8:20 Speaker 3: guys trying to manage David Pasternak. So I don't want

8:24 Speaker 3: to hear any more crap about trading David Pastronach from anybody.

8:29 Speaker 1: I agree, I agree, and I think that this past

8:32 Speaker 1: season we've seen him grow and change as a forward

8:39 Speaker 1: player more than we have seen, you know, at any

8:43 Speaker 1: other point in his career. And that's including the season

8:45 Speaker 1: where he scored. He had sixty goals in that in

8:49 Speaker 1: that one year. So I think what makes this particular season,

8:57 Speaker 1: honest to God, his hands down best season I see.

9:01 Speaker 1: I think a season that he should certainly be the

9:03 Speaker 1: most proud of, besides the fact that you had him

9:11 Speaker 1: still hit that century mark with points on a team

9:15 Speaker 1: where he had virtually no support until finally he and

9:21 Speaker 1: Geeky kind of started clicking. But even then, you know,

9:26 Speaker 1: there there we had essentially no power play. There. We

9:30 Speaker 1: were down to key defenceman offensive defenseman all season. Uh,

9:38 Speaker 1: none of the other veterans were performing. A goaltender like

9:42 Speaker 1: all of the things, all of the things, and the

9:44 Speaker 1: man still hit one hundred points. But it wasn't just

9:48 Speaker 1: the goal scoring that of course, impressed me and the

9:53 Speaker 1: point getting. But I've noticed in the past year he

10:00 Speaker 1: has elevated his more complete game, at least on the

10:05 Speaker 1: offensive front. Now, as you said, you know, oh, I

10:08 Speaker 1: have a turnovers and huh, he's not a great defensive player.

10:11 Speaker 1: That's not his job, so he doesn't have to be.

10:15 Speaker 1: He's not a center, he's not a centerman, so his

10:17 Speaker 1: job isn't to be both things. Right. His job, he's

10:21 Speaker 1: a winger. So he's got one job, and he's doing

10:23 Speaker 1: a phenomenal job at it. But I would say that

10:26 Speaker 1: Morgan Geeky has been the prime beneficiary of Pasta's largest

10:32 Speaker 1: area of growth, which has been playmaker. He has been.

10:39 Speaker 1: He's been a much more supportive player in the sense

10:43 Speaker 1: that you know, in the past we've complained ourselves as fans, Oh,

10:49 Speaker 1: he only goes to his office and he sits there

10:54 Speaker 1: and he waits for the puck to come to him.

10:56 Speaker 1: I did not see that at all here on the whole.

11:01 Speaker 1: You know, he was much more engaged in making plays happen.

11:07 Speaker 1: Really in a lot of opportunities where I think he

11:10 Speaker 1: would have attempted to score the goal or you know,

11:14 Speaker 1: make the play for himself. He passed it to Morgan Geeky.

11:19 Speaker 1: I've never seen him pass to another player in this

11:24 Speaker 1: way as much as I have seen this season, and

11:26 Speaker 1: to me, that really shows tremendous growth as a forward

11:30 Speaker 1: player because he's able to pretty well judge the situation

11:38 Speaker 1: because he knows every but but he's going to be

11:43 Speaker 1: looking at him. Everyone's going to be coming to him.

11:46 Speaker 1: Right to your point about the two devils on him,

11:48 Speaker 1: He's always going to have extra guys on him because

11:51 Speaker 1: the other players know him, they respect him, you know,

11:54 Speaker 1: they have to do that, and he has been able to.

11:58 Speaker 1: I don't know if it's building this rapport or chemistry

12:02 Speaker 1: or just growing his IQ or finally finding another person

12:06 Speaker 1: that he clicks with so well, very much in the

12:11 Speaker 1: same way that we saw between Brad Marsham and Patrice Berger.

12:17 Speaker 1: Is just like natural, like extension. And you never seen

12:20 Speaker 1: David Kostrnak because even when he was part of the

12:23 Speaker 1: Perfection line, I always thought he was kind of the

12:27 Speaker 1: extra piece. He was the cherry on top of what

12:33 Speaker 1: Bergie and Marshy produced. Right he is now I think

12:37 Speaker 1: in that kind of partnership, at least with Morgan Gigee

12:42 Speaker 1: at this time, and it's completely I think changed his game.

12:46 Speaker 1: I'm way more impressed by him, and like it's not

12:50 Speaker 1: that I wasn't impressed, but I have been so much

12:54 Speaker 1: more impressed with him, his presence on the ice, the

12:58 Speaker 1: things that he's done. I mean, we saw earlier in

13:01 Speaker 1: this year how we talked about again Brad marsh and

13:05 Speaker 1: willing this team, dragging this team from the edge. David

13:10 Speaker 1: Pasternak has taken this team on his back to then

13:15 Speaker 1: try and make wins happen. Because instead of you know,

13:19 Speaker 1: being in that role where like again with Marsha going

13:22 Speaker 1: in and trying to energize and get things going and

13:25 Speaker 1: getting guys excited and whatnot, Pasta is like, fine, I

13:30 Speaker 1: will go score all the goals, just try not to

13:33 Speaker 1: let any other ones in. And he did that. Five

13:36 Speaker 1: points against Carolina I think he has did I hear correctly,

13:42 Speaker 1: eleven points in the last two games or in the

13:46 Speaker 1: past week whatever.

13:47 Speaker 3: Some insane during the stretch right during these I believe

13:51 Speaker 3: they get Carolina Buffalo, which was lost, but still he

13:57 Speaker 3: factored in the goals that the Bruins did score. So

14:00 Speaker 3: Carolina Buffalo and the game against New Jersey eleven points

14:06 Speaker 3: in three freaking games people, And I think you know,

14:10 Speaker 3: we've all been ingrained to know the Bruins to have,

14:15 Speaker 3: you know, and expect a defensive structure from all of

14:20 Speaker 3: their players, and so right, he's he can't be that

14:26 Speaker 3: all the time for you.

14:28 Speaker 1: He shouldn't be that all the time for them.

14:30 Speaker 3: You want doing right, You want him doing what he's

14:36 Speaker 3: been doing for this team since the month of January.

14:42 Speaker 3: Since the month of January, David Pasternach has played forty games,

14:50 Speaker 3: twenty eight goals, thirty five assists, and he is the

14:55 Speaker 3: highest point talire in the National Hockey League January of

15:02 Speaker 3: twenty twenty five. And behind him, not far behind him. Right,

15:08 Speaker 3: let me know if you've heard of these players, Nikita Kucherov,

15:12 Speaker 3: Nathan McKinnon, Jason Roberts, Leon dry Sidle and now Leon

15:19 Speaker 3: dry Sidles had played less games because he's had some injuries.

15:23 Speaker 1: But be that as it may, he's he's at the

15:26 Speaker 1: top of elite, elite company here, folks.

15:31 Speaker 3: Yeah, we have a bonafide and I think we've all

15:35 Speaker 3: been aware of this, but a bonafide and legitimate NHL superstar.

15:43 Speaker 1: Yeah. He's currently fourth in points and fifth in goals

15:51 Speaker 1: considering in the first three months of this season, he

15:56 Speaker 1: was at the bottom and when we were all wondering,

16:01 Speaker 1: what is wrong with him? What is wrong with him?

16:04 Speaker 1: Something's up? Is there an injury still lingering? I think

16:12 Speaker 1: he just he didn't have someone to play with. He

16:14 Speaker 1: didn't have someone.

16:16 Speaker 3: No, it really wasn't clicking with right at the start

16:20 Speaker 3: of the season, it was not clicking with Elias lind

16:24 Speaker 3: Home and David Pastronach. We have since seen a shift

16:30 Speaker 3: in that, and again it's folks, it's a very small

16:33 Speaker 3: sample size. But since they made the change to having

16:39 Speaker 3: Elias lind Home on the line with Pasternak and Geeky,

16:44 Speaker 3: that trio has been pretty damn good. Like if it

16:48 Speaker 3: wasn't for that trio, I'm not sure if you would

16:51 Speaker 3: have won those games, that game against Carolina or the

16:55 Speaker 3: game now last night, he probably would have worried.

16:58 Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, last night because you had you had a

17:02 Speaker 1: bunch of different goal scorers last night and a lot

17:04 Speaker 1: of person We'll get to those because we haven't had

17:07 Speaker 1: a lot of positives, and we need to talk about

17:10 Speaker 1: some positives at the tail end of the season that

17:13 Speaker 1: we hope will you know, kind of excite us into

17:17 Speaker 1: the building of this team in the future.

17:21 Speaker 3: But before we get totally off track, we had a

17:26 Speaker 3: little bit of news in the NHL. I don't know

17:29 Speaker 3: if you heard, but there's a new player who is

17:36 Speaker 3: now deemed to be the most prolific scorer in the

17:42 Speaker 3: National Hockey League, and that would be Alexander Ovechkin. Honestly,

17:47 Speaker 3: you know, I'm like tongue in cheeking this, but what

17:49 Speaker 3: a freaking accomplishment. Insane, insane, and he did it missing

17:57 Speaker 3: sixteen games this season with a broken leg. Just he

18:05 Speaker 3: deserves all the accolades that he gets because you are

18:11 Speaker 3: now your name is going to be in the record

18:15 Speaker 3: books for a very, very, very long time.

18:21 Speaker 1: Yeah, because he has still one more year on his contract,

18:27 Speaker 1: I thought for sure he would retire, which I mean

18:31 Speaker 1: you could, I guess, I guess you could. But why

18:34 Speaker 1: would you leave that money on the table? Yeah?

18:36 Speaker 3: Yeah, if you still have the fire to play, why not?

18:44 Speaker 3: I thought the same thing. But now that we're talking

18:47 Speaker 3: about it, why not If you're up for it, and

18:50 Speaker 3: you don't mind all of the conditioning and training that

18:53 Speaker 3: you need to put in in the off season and

18:56 Speaker 3: the grind of an eighty two game season, why not

19:00 Speaker 3: continue to add to that total, to make it even

19:03 Speaker 3: more difficult for here to break your record.

19:08 Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the thing. There was a recent stat put

19:12 Speaker 1: out there. It was actually a joke making fun of

19:14 Speaker 1: Bizz about how long it would take him to break

19:16 Speaker 1: the record. But they listed a whole bunch of it

19:19 Speaker 1: was sports that and they were listing a whole bunch

19:21 Speaker 1: of or maybe TNT current players and based on their

19:27 Speaker 1: current goals per game, how long it would take, like

19:30 Speaker 1: what year they would potentially be doing the record. But

19:33 Speaker 1: the problem is he's still playing. The man's probably gonna

19:39 Speaker 1: break past nine hundred goals, So that threshold keeps like

19:45 Speaker 1: that that yard stick keeping right right, right right. He's

19:49 Speaker 1: not done yet, He's still time. So no, and and

19:53 Speaker 1: you know, congratulations to him.

19:55 Speaker 3: Nice job by the NHL with the celebration, you know

19:59 Speaker 3: the celebration, and I mean it's a little awkward maybe

20:02 Speaker 3: doing it on another team's sheet, but you know, credit

20:07 Speaker 3: to the New York Islanders for you know, being classy

20:10 Speaker 3: and understanding the historical moment that that was. And you know,

20:15 Speaker 3: Ovechkin having his wife and his mother and his kids

20:18 Speaker 3: there and the great One himself there, you know, watching

20:23 Speaker 3: all of these you know, last handful of games waiting

20:26 Speaker 3: for his record to be to be broken. So yeah,

20:30 Speaker 3: it's pretty pretty pretty special moment, I think, and you know,

20:34 Speaker 3: special for all of us too, as long longtime hockey

20:38 Speaker 3: fans who understand, you know, the endurance that it takes

20:45 Speaker 3: these players to be able and in today's NHL right

20:50 Speaker 3: like you know, and I heard conversation about this.

20:53 Speaker 1: You know, Gretzky had this record or cemented this record

20:59 Speaker 1: at a time where the league was really really different,

21:02 Speaker 1: like you could you could hack, and you could whack,

21:05 Speaker 1: and you could clutch and you could grab, and yet

21:08 Speaker 1: he still managed to score a bazillion goals where you know,

21:13 Speaker 1: all we did it during a time where you know,

21:16 Speaker 1: there's there were a lot more things being called. But

21:20 Speaker 1: here's where I will say, players in today's modern ever

21:27 Speaker 1: of the NHL much faster, much bigger, The goaltending is

21:33 Speaker 1: so much difficult, eating is night and day totally different.

21:37 Speaker 3: So you know, you can see the pros and cons

21:40 Speaker 3: of both both.

21:41 Speaker 1: Sides of it. But still you can't take away from

21:47 Speaker 1: this accomplishment. Yep, So congrats to him. Playoff picture is

21:55 Speaker 1: becoming almost and nearer.

21:58 Speaker 3: Lots of teams Now, if you go and look at

22:01 Speaker 3: the NHL standings, folks, there are a lot of teams

22:05 Speaker 3: that now have xes by their names. The Maple Leafs,

22:10 Speaker 3: the Lightning, the Panthers, the Capitals, the Hurricanes, the Ottawa Senators.

22:16 Speaker 1: Amazing you what a good goaltender can do for your team?

22:20 Speaker 1: Have clinched a wild card spot wild first time in

22:26 Speaker 1: christ I don't even know how long it's been. Yep.

22:30 Speaker 3: The Canadians are sniffing at that second wild card spot themselves.

22:36 Speaker 3: So I'm telling you this season is like bizarro world.

22:40 Speaker 3: I gotta tell you.

22:41 Speaker 1: What's what's even crazier. So as again, you know I

22:46 Speaker 1: love my stats, I love my hockey, an I know

22:49 Speaker 1: you do. So I was recently playing around with some

22:54 Speaker 1: numbers and some math and whatever as has to do

22:57 Speaker 1: with the standings, and I just so happened to notice

23:01 Speaker 1: as I was looking at the current standings. So the

23:07 Speaker 1: Habs are currently holding on for dear life to that

23:11 Speaker 1: second wild card spot with eighty seven points. The next

23:16 Speaker 1: four teams, the Rangers, the Red Wings, the Islanders, and

23:21 Speaker 1: the Blue Jackets yep, all have seventy nine points. So

23:26 Speaker 1: the tiebreaker is then your games played games remaining and

23:33 Speaker 1: points percentage, which all the teams have played seventy seven

23:39 Speaker 1: games and they all have.

23:43 Speaker 4: The same five thirteen points per secone, so I believe

23:48 Speaker 4: it then goes to regulation wins, which the Rangers.

23:53 Speaker 1: Have the tiebreaker for. But the fact that you are

23:59 Speaker 1: looking that deep into the tie breaking for potential spot,

24:04 Speaker 1: should you know the Montreal Canadians all of a sudden

24:08 Speaker 1: just completely and utterly implode, you know you'd be looking

24:13 Speaker 1: at that. But they're also on a six game win streak,

24:15 Speaker 1: which is also kind of shocking, so be kind of

24:19 Speaker 1: interesting to see if they do hang on and actually

24:22 Speaker 1: get in. But we'll see. There are just the two

24:26 Speaker 1: teams in the East who have not yet settled their situation,

24:33 Speaker 1: and three teams in the West yet to confirm their

24:38 Speaker 1: seat on the playoff Express.

24:41 Speaker 3: And officially eliminated in the Eastern Conference along with our

24:46 Speaker 3: Boston Bruins, are the Buffalo Sabers, and this is an

24:51 Speaker 3: order of where they finished in the standings. Buffalo Sabers,

24:58 Speaker 3: Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, and the Philadelphia Flyers. You are

25:03 Speaker 3: the second worst site, second worst team in the Eastern Conference. Yep, yeah,

25:11 Speaker 3: only only in ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers. Yeah, and

25:16 Speaker 3: you know the irony of looking at these teams that

25:21 Speaker 3: have clinched or maybe on the verge of clinching. So

25:27 Speaker 3: the players and the coach that you dispelled, the coach

25:31 Speaker 3: that you fired, Jim Montgomery has the Saint Louis Blues

25:37 Speaker 3: in the first wild card spot right now. For the

25:40 Speaker 3: Saint Louis Blues, you traded Trent Frederick to the Edmonton Oilers,

25:48 Speaker 3: ready for the playoffs. You traded Charlie Coyle to the

25:52 Speaker 3: Colorado Avalanche, ready for the playoffs. You traded Brandon Collo

25:58 Speaker 3: to the Toronto May Believe, ready for the playoffs. And

26:02 Speaker 3: last but not least, Brad Marshand to the Florida Panthers,

26:45 Speaker 1: the league announced the passing of Ray Sierro at the

26:51 Speaker 1: age of sixty two, which I tell you that to

26:55 Speaker 1: me is very frightening these three years younger than I am.

26:58 Speaker 1: So you know, the old folks of life is short

27:02 Speaker 1: and joy every day and every moment that you have

38:58 Speaker 3: David Pasternak. Yeah what, And we we talked a little

39:02 Speaker 3: bit about David to start.

39:07 Speaker 1: This episode. But the fact that Pasta is now the

39:13 Speaker 1: third Ruin to hit one hundred points three years in

39:17 Speaker 1: a row and name is in the same sentence as

39:21 Speaker 1: Bobby Orr and Bozito pretty good, God damn company. And

39:28 Speaker 1: he's not even thirty. Ye I think yeah, I think

39:34 Speaker 1: we could legitimately see as long as management doesn't Ruin

40:31 Speaker 3: away from them. They have been competitive hockey teams. They

40:36 Speaker 3: have fallen short, and I know there are no guarantees,

40:42 Speaker 3: but in light of what's happened this season and the

40:46 Speaker 3: fact that none of us know where they're heading, don't

40:52 Speaker 3: you think that might be a point of concern for

40:56 Speaker 3: David and even Charlie.

40:58 Speaker 1: McAvoy at this point. Yeah, because at the end of

41:02 Speaker 1: the day, you know, I'm I'm never gonna fault a

41:06 Speaker 1: player for saying, you know, I need to be on

41:12 Speaker 1: a team that has a legitimate chance not just be

41:16 Speaker 1: a winning team, but actually have a chance, because it

41:19 Speaker 1: is at the end of the day, it is their name,

41:22 Speaker 1: and they want it in one place, in one place only,

41:28 Speaker 1: you know, they want it engraved on the Stanley Cup,

41:31 Speaker 1: and they will do what it takes at the end

41:33 Speaker 1: of the day if they feel like that's what they

41:35 Speaker 1: need to do. Again, I still talk about Brad Marsham

41:38 Speaker 1: because obviously it's something that is taking me forever to

41:42 Speaker 1: get over, but something that I thought about even just

41:45 Speaker 1: the other night. You know, some folks in the discord

41:49 Speaker 1: were talking about watching him play in the game. Also

41:54 Speaker 1: last night, I think, yes, they were playing the Maple Leafs, like, yeah,

41:58 Speaker 1: they're playing the Leafs. And I have not yet watched

42:01 Speaker 1: him play a single game, and this is my favorite player.

42:05 Speaker 1: I have not watched him play a game yet. I

42:06 Speaker 1: just am not ready for it. I can't whatever. But

42:10 Speaker 1: the more that I think about it, the more I'm

42:15 Speaker 1: realizing him demanding. Basically, I would have to assume he

42:20 Speaker 1: had the ability to say, then I want to go

42:23 Speaker 1: I'm only going to go to one place, or I'm

42:24 Speaker 1: gonna go here and you're gonna get me there like that,

42:26 Speaker 1: he had that privilege to say that. The fact that

42:31 Speaker 1: he said the Florida Panthers, that's a big fu to

42:39 Speaker 1: Boston to the to Boston management specifically, Like he could

42:44 Speaker 1: have said Dallas, he could have said, you know, there's

42:47 Speaker 1: play Winnipeg. Yeah, I'll go to Winnipeg for you know,

42:51 Speaker 1: two months whatever, right to win the Stanley Cup. But

42:55 Speaker 1: he picked the specific team that has been a thorn

43:01 Speaker 1: in the Bruins side for two years, two season, three seasons. Really.

43:08 Speaker 1: Oh and by the way, you signed certain guys in

43:12 Speaker 1: the off season specifically to go up against that team.

43:19 Speaker 1: You were building a team right to play against that team.

43:24 Speaker 1: To your point, you know, any player could say, because

43:30 Speaker 1: a lot of them have these no move clause, no

43:33 Speaker 1: trade clause, what have you. And so at any point,

43:36 Speaker 1: even though God forbid down the line, David Pasternak is

43:41 Speaker 1: just like on a team that is wallowing and management

43:45 Speaker 1: keeps just messing up and not engaged doing the right things,

43:49 Speaker 1: what have you, he can then go to management because

43:52 Speaker 1: he is already at that point in his career where

43:55 Speaker 1: he has that privilege that right to say you have

43:59 Speaker 1: to trade me, I want to go, and I'm gonna

44:02 Speaker 1: pick the team that has the best chance right now

44:07 Speaker 1: to switch gears. Just a tiny bit the like we

44:11 Speaker 1: said a little bit earlier, the largest the biggest beneficiary

44:16 Speaker 1: of David Pasternak's brilliance this season has been Morgan Geeky,

44:22 Speaker 1: and he is one that I am very very interested

44:25 Speaker 1: to see how this negotiation goes, because ice.

44:28 Speaker 3: Tag keeps going up and up and up, and I

44:34 Speaker 3: would Management's gonna I.

44:38 Speaker 1: Would keep him. I would keep him. Here's the thing.

44:42 Speaker 1: Here's the thing. He Morgan Geeky is actually a restricted

44:49 Speaker 1: free agent. He is not an unrestricted free agent. And

44:53 Speaker 1: there's been a lot of confusion all over the place

44:56 Speaker 1: about what is his actual status because he came to

45:01 Speaker 1: Boston under not unusual circumstances, but let's say less common circumstances.

45:10 Speaker 1: So and don't worry, folks, you could put your your

45:14 Speaker 1: pens and your notepads away. We'll talk about this again

45:18 Speaker 1: and again as.

45:18 Speaker 5: We get closer to the free agency, because I have

45:20 Speaker 5: to tell you, I have to look this stuff up

45:24 Speaker 5: pretty much every single time I think of it, because

45:28 Speaker 5: I can't ever truly remember anything.

45:30 Speaker 1: But this was an unusual and a new situation for

45:33 Speaker 1: me to kind of learn about. So here's what happened.

45:37 Speaker 1: So Morgan Geeky is an under or he's a restricted

45:43 Speaker 1: free agent going into the summer of twenty twenty three,

45:48 Speaker 1: he was with Seattle. He ended up in Seattle by

45:53 Speaker 1: way of Carolina, and he was not qualified by the

45:59 Speaker 1: Seattle crack. So what does that mean? First and foremost,

46:02 Speaker 1: if you just take a real quick step back, when

46:06 Speaker 1: you are under a certain age and you have not

46:10 Speaker 1: and played a certain number of seasons, there are some

46:15 Speaker 1: different rules around your contract. So this is known as

46:21 Speaker 1: the twenty seven seven rule. So you have to be

46:27 Speaker 1: twenty seven or seven seasons completed in order to become

46:34 Speaker 1: a UFA. Now there's some other little situations where that

46:38 Speaker 1: doesn't necessarily qualify, and you have to a season is

46:44 Speaker 1: playing for at least forty games. So he is not

46:50 Speaker 1: twenty seven. He actually turns twenty seven in July after

46:56 Speaker 1: the first so he is still under twenty seven epistart

47:00 Speaker 1: of free agency. So he was restricted, which means that

47:05 Speaker 1: there isn't the same kind of negotiating that happens that

47:09 Speaker 1: you freely hear about with your unrestricted free agents. Essentially,

47:13 Speaker 1: the team owns him and his right and it is

47:17 Speaker 1: at the team's discretion if they want to keep him

47:20 Speaker 1: or not, and they will give him a qualifying offer,

47:25 Speaker 1: which is typically a percentage pay raise. Think of it

47:29 Speaker 1: as your annual cost of living increase if you still

47:32 Speaker 1: happen to get one of those you number when we

47:34 Speaker 1: used to get two or three percent or whatever. Right, Yeah,

47:38 Speaker 1: that's essentially what he is given, so first and foremost

47:44 Speaker 1: to assuage listeners who are terrified that he is going

47:49 Speaker 1: to just walk. He literally cannot. He is at the

47:53 Speaker 1: Beck and call the Boston Bruins right now. Okay, that's

47:56 Speaker 1: what makes me nervous.

47:58 Speaker 6: Okay, So, and you do have a right to be

48:01 Speaker 6: nervous because who was a restricted free agent last year,

48:05 Speaker 6: Maria who caused us a lot of grief, Jeremy's wayman,

48:10 Speaker 6: just because they are restricted.

48:12 Speaker 1: Okay, this is what frightens me about this.

48:16 Speaker 3: We have talked in our discord, We've talked, you know,

48:19 Speaker 3: offline about things of this nature, and I think that

48:22 Speaker 3: I have made reference to it on a couple of

48:25 Speaker 3: occasions on this podcast. I have come around to your

48:30 Speaker 3: line of thinking in that I do not trust management,

48:33 Speaker 3: and specifically cam Neely.

48:36 Speaker 1: I believe that they have their own.

48:41 Speaker 3: Determining factors about values of players, and they like to

48:51 Speaker 3: nickel and die, and they like to play a little

48:56 Speaker 3: bit dirty in the sandbox. So this is, you know,

49:03 Speaker 3: this is my worry for David Pastronach. Now I'm not

49:06 Speaker 3: saying go out and give Morgan geeky whatever the hell

49:11 Speaker 3: he wants, because he doesn't strike me as that kind

49:15 Speaker 3: of player. However, right, things have not flowed smoothly for

49:22 Speaker 3: the Boston Bruins since the start of the season.

49:26 Speaker 1: Right, we had the the.

49:29 Speaker 3: Turmoil with Swayman's contract, the holdout, the you know, he

49:35 Speaker 3: said this, and he said that, and you know then

49:39 Speaker 3: I still think there's something that doesn't meet the eye

49:43 Speaker 3: with the dealings with Brad marshand and how the trade

49:48 Speaker 3: to Florida came about. So if I'm David Pastronach and

49:54 Speaker 3: I'm looking at this saying, I find, you know, I

49:56 Speaker 3: got someone that I'm comfortable playing with. Now we've developed chemistry,

50:01 Speaker 3: because God knows, you need to have something to show

50:08 Speaker 3: for this miserable season that everyone has been subjected to.

50:13 Speaker 1: So you have someone that is now aligning well, very

50:18 Speaker 1: well with David Pasternak.

50:20 Speaker 3: And not only that, he's also pumped in thirty goals

50:24 Speaker 3: of his own yep, right, yep.

50:27 Speaker 1: So yeah, So the important thing though, again, the various

50:33 Speaker 1: scenarios of what could happen. Right, The one thing that

50:36 Speaker 1: cannot happen is that Morgan Geeky effectively cannot just walk

50:40 Speaker 1: away walk away. The qualifying offer essentially just means that

50:46 Speaker 1: the team is saying we want to continue retaining your rights.

50:51 Speaker 1: That may also then come with a one year contract

50:57 Speaker 1: with that with a minimum pay increase. The team can

51:03 Speaker 1: do a qualifying offer where it's just we're retaining your

51:07 Speaker 1: rights and we want to negotiate. That's where Jeremy Swayman

51:12 Speaker 1: falls into, Right, they retained his rights and they negotiated contract.

51:17 Speaker 1: If they do the qualifying offer and the standard qualifying

51:20 Speaker 1: offer that's a year contract, and you know, they can

51:25 Speaker 1: kind of they're basically kicking the can down the line.

51:29 Speaker 1: What they can also do is qualifying offer to retain

51:34 Speaker 1: the rights and do a longer term contract. That is

51:39 Speaker 1: also something that can happen. I think that's what we

51:42 Speaker 1: are hoping to see. You know, how long that is

51:45 Speaker 1: is to be seen because he's turning twenty seven, so

51:49 Speaker 1: you know he's really at the prime. Are they going

51:51 Speaker 1: to give him, you know, three five years? I can't

51:55 Speaker 1: imagine them going with an eight year contract, not because

51:59 Speaker 1: of anything specifically against Porgan Geeky, this is just like

52:03 Speaker 1: his first real big breakout year. He was good last year,

52:07 Speaker 1: but this was like next level, And quite frankly, I

52:11 Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if management just doesn't have a taste

52:13 Speaker 1: for that kind of contract right now, not no good, right,
