Sweeney Gaslights Us as Bruins Lose to Chicago | Snap Shots Episode 47
Liner notes
🎙️ It was awards night for the team last night and, no surprise, David Pastrnak won the number 1 star for best player on the team. Geekie was awarded the third star; to the surprise of many, Swayman walked away with the number 2 star. So much good that did him, getting clobbered by three former Bruins in a loss against Chicago. Don Sweeney spoke to Judd and Brick during the game and actually criticized the team for lacking a shot-first mentality - which actively flies in the face of the company line from the last two seasons. Speaker 1: It was revenge of the x's as three former Bruins
Speaker 1: scored on the Be's number two Star of the season
Speaker 1: in very quick succession. Late in the game, Don Sweeney
Speaker 1: had the audacity to criticize the players openly that he
Speaker 1: hired by the Way, about their lack of shot first mentality,
Speaker 1: which was quite literally the company line for the last
Speaker 1: few seasons. Remember quality shots over quantity. Yeah, me too.
Speaker 1: This is a Bruins tape to tape snapshot.
Speaker 2: The Bruins tried something new and different on Thursday night
Speaker 2: as they lost to the Chicago Blackhawks by a score
Speaker 2: of five to two. This time, the unraveling and the
Speaker 2: meltdown occurred in the third period of the game, where
Speaker 2: they allowed three unanswered goals in a very short period
Speaker 2: of time to the Chicago Blackhawks. Unanswered goals that were
Speaker 2: let in by your goalie who named the overall second
Speaker 2: Star of the season by the Boston Bruins as they
Speaker 2: were presenting their awards, which is mind boggling to me,
Speaker 2: but that's a story for another day. The Bruins were
Speaker 2: destroyed by a handful of former Boston Bruins in that
Speaker 2: Nick Felino scored a goal, Ryan Donado scored a goal
Speaker 2: and Tyler Bertuzzi scored a goal. You did have David
Speaker 2: Pasternach and Morgan Geek continuing on their offensive tear, but
Speaker 2: again it wasn't enough, as it seems that those two
Speaker 2: players are the only ones who can consistently put the
Speaker 2: puck in the net. Be that as it may, this
Speaker 2: season can't end fast enough. But to me, the story
Speaker 2: of this game was the fact that Don Sweeney started
Speaker 2: the second period by chading with jud Surat and Andy
Speaker 2: Brickley at the start of the second period, where he
Speaker 2: said a lot of things, but the comments that caught
Speaker 2: my eye were the fact that he was openly criticizing
Speaker 2: players such as Elias Lindholm and Pavel Zaka for having
Speaker 2: what is the equivalent of a you know, deferring or
Speaker 2: not a shoot first mentality, to which I say to
Speaker 2: Don Sweeney, it's all well and good that you're openly
Speaker 2: criticizing these players, but aren't you the one who brought
Speaker 2: these players in and shouldn't you, who allegedly is a
Speaker 2: good GM have an awareness that these players may have
Speaker 2: a propensity for deferring and passing. Call me crazy, but
Speaker 2: isn't that your job to identify that, and you're the
Speaker 2: one who has signed these plays. I don't know, maybe
Speaker 2: I'm not understanding fully what your role is, but for
Speaker 2: you to stand up there and pontificate at this point
Speaker 2: of the season is absurd, absolutely absurd. This season can't
Speaker 2: end fast enough from my liking.
Speaker 1: The Bruins play their final road trip of the season
Speaker 1: this Sunday afternoon. Not only do we have to suffer
Speaker 1: through a matinee between two terrible teams, the Pittsburgh Penguins,
Speaker 1: it's a nationally televised game, so we will also need
Speaker 1: to sit through the broadcast talents of Ray Ferraro and
Speaker 1: Sean McDonough yepie. While all of the Bruins that were
Speaker 1: quote unquote fired this year are all well positioned for
Speaker 1: the playoffs, several of the former Bruins who opted to
Speaker 1: leave Boston last summer are not in great shape. Notably,
Speaker 1: Vancouver's whole lot of former Boston players will be starting
Speaker 1: their vacations next week. It's probably our local boy, Matt Grizzlick,
Speaker 1: who we will see this weekend in Pittsburgh. Won't fault
Speaker 1: you if you opt to do something a little more
Speaker 1: fun this Sunday afternoon. As a small bit of housekeeping,
Speaker 1: we will have a snapshot episode the day after the
Speaker 1: last game of the season, and our end of season
Speaker 1: episode will be out on Thursday. But never fear, we
Speaker 1: will still have entertaining content all summer long, so make
Speaker 1: sure you stick around and make sure you rate and
